I need help locating an RF lead for the Mega Drive/Genesis 2. I have looked and looked, but with no prevail. I am from the UK and have looked on eBay, with no luck at all. Any help would be grateful. Thanks Rick.

You should look for a RGB SCART cable instead. It gives the absolut best picture, the MegaDrive can produce

If you like, I'll send you an RF lead for a nominal fee - I've got a spare kicking around somewhere. If you're still interested, I'll dig it out :)

Also, beware the SCART sellers on eBay - as there were no 'official' leads released (I don't think that happened until the Dreamcast - maybe the Saturn?) the quality really varies as they're all amateur creations. I have to be very careful with mine - it's got RCA outputs, but the head comes loose from the innards if you try to remove it carelessly.

I've got an 'official' SCART RGB lead for the MD2/Gen2... It has the SEGA logo on it, and it looks like the real deal, so it must have been released at some point, somehow :|

But they are sertanly quite rare. I use a homemade one instead just to keep the "real" cable safe.

All of my RGB SCART cables are from the UK and they all work phuggin' great. My SCART switcher looses some quality, though. Therefore I do not use the SCART switcher (also didn't like my SNES powering up whenever I turned on my Genesis or Neo Geo).

Do you have any images of this cable? I don't think I've heard or seen anything about an official SEGA cable.

Yeah - as a general rule of thumb, official cables are far superior to homemade cables, especially in the case of oddball connectors like the Dreamcast's - I got through about three SCART cables before I shelled out for an official cable with the correct connector. None of the others sat properly in the jack, making the image go loopy.

My collection is kind of on remote storage at the moment, but it should be possible for me to make some pics late next week :)

Thanks for the offer, but i recently bought one of this guy from eBay for a measly $0.01! Although the cost of the P&P came to a rediculous $11.99. Oh well, got one finally.

erm, got it today and since I am from the UK, I found it did not work even though it said it was a "universal" cable... :(

Is it a RF or a SCART cable?

...you've got a broken cable, then. Accessories for the Mega Drive aren't region-locked.

Are you sure we're talking about the same cable here? I assume you're on about one of these:

^ This is the official RF lead, that plugs between your aerial connection and your TV set.

edit: and yup, you overpaid quite a bit there :/

On one side of the SCART plug it says "SEGA" (made in china) and has the part code 1637-09. On the flip side it says "Adapteur R.V.B.".... think that's french for "RGB adaptor"(?), so its origin is probably french.

Adapteur Rouge Vert Bleu. Red, Green, Blue adapter - yup, RGB cable.

It's ... it's beautiful :) Where did it come from?

It was just one of the gold nuggets I found among a big pile of used MegaDrive stuff, that I bought some time ago. Have no ideer, how the the previous owner got a hold of it... was probably imported from France by some tech minded MegaDrive gamer back in the days. Who knows?... :)

Ohhh... Made in China! Just like everything else.... except for stuff that's made in Taiwaan or however you spell it. I like the construction, held closed with screws.
