Shadow of the Beast. In order to fit it on a standard 8meg cart, they removed the ending sequence in favor of a static screen that says "Congratulations! You have freed yourself from the shadow of the beast" and then you enter your initials for high score and it goes back to the title screen.
Ooh, I remember that. :fit:
Jewel Master ticked me off. It's a pretty long game, and the ending is basically the same cut scene you get in the intro, with two lame paragraphs about how you saved the world, etc. Lame.

I hated the ending of Kid Chameleon... I worked so hard for that??? AHHHHH! I wasn't expecting an ending like PSII (which is just freakin' amazing, well worth the difficulty) But come on, Kid Chameleon was HARD and you get shit for beating it... its worst then the opening scene.
I've been upset by many, but I can't remember right now. In last 7 years I've been only playing RPGs and RPGs usually have very good endings. One noteable though on the Genny is Shadowrun, I was rather upset with the crap ending that game had... other then that though the rest of the game is immersive and AMAZING!

Garfield: Caught in the Act has a very bad/brief ending as far as I can recall.

(now I'm not basing this on simplicity to endings... just if the ending doesn't live up to the quality of the game itself)
I remember one that REALLY pissed me off years back.
Ecco 2 Tides of Time
I never played the Genny version, but I figure it is similar to the SCD one which I played. I was 11 and in love with this game, I preordered it and everything.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
So when it got to the end FINALY I was pissed to see what I considered a heroic good semaritin character who was on his final journey to destroy the time machine for the good of animal kind. But he doesn't, WTF, he sends himself a drift in the sea of time??? What the hell, I was so pissed, he was supposed to destroy it so no bad people get there hands on it... he should lured the freakin' queen embryo in to it, sent it back to the past to be killed (which is what he does) and then destroyed it... Now with him adrift in the sea of time he can't come and help Earth if some other Alien race decides to threaten us! Dude, we are all gonna die now!
Altered Beast's ending pissed me off too. The arcade game had this cool ending where the whole game was revealed to be a movie shoot. The Genesis game lost all of it.
One game that I remember that had a terrible ending was World Heroes. If you beat the game with anyone they don't give their story. All that for congratulations.

I rather liked that ending. It was a short game, so I frankly wouldn't be heartbroken if the ending was proportionally as short. Friends and I would have fun just kicking the words off the screen before they form rows. Great, Hi-Fi music at the end too.

True this...

I say that any ending that rewards you with a mere "conglatuation" screen is a bad one.
I remember the ending to Clayfigher.
just a big pastel screen that says "thanks for playing"
