Got a working model 1?

post here!

I myself just got one, first one I've seen in real life, works great, laser needs realignment, but it works decent most of the time, very cool, far cooler then the model 2, HOWEVER, I much perfer the model 2 intro music!

I have a Model 1 that works great. I never really use it sadly, I never use my Model 2 system either. :|

But I need to paint a little spot -- there was a nice distracting scratch on the system that I was able to sand away, so I wonder what the best paint to use is? I don't need a lot.

I have a launch unit model 1 which works fine. Yeah, the intro music sucks. That's why I try and press start as soon as possible, and I usually MUTE the sound until after the Sonic Sega logo. Believe it or not the Mega CD (Japan) had a REALLY bad sound effect for the SEGA logo (worse than the model 1 Sega CD Sonic Sega logo) despite having the best intro music of them all.

heh, i am 'working' on one.

still have my original genny, and i wanted to give it a sibling.

So far i can get it to boot to the inital screen. I can get it to request a cd. Unfortunately, i do not get the music and dancing logo's.

When I originally opened it up, the ribbon cable that connects to the cd unit to the main board was disconnected. I reconnected it, and the system failed to load to the boot screen.

My next steps are to clean and reset the ribbon cable. I refitted the cd tray to the main gear. I just need to get something going there....

wish me luck....if you have any idea's, i am open.

I wish I could upload new music to my Sega CD. The music from the model 1 Mega CD in Japan would work. It is really easy to get sick of that "BOM BOM BOM BOM BOM BOM BOM" music that plays on my Sega CD 1, as I posted above.

I have a model 1 which I suspect still works, but I've lost all the cables needed to hook it up except I think the Sega CD to Genesis stereo cable. The few times I've priced the cables it was just too much (I could just buy another Sega CD to get them), and my X'Eye does the job even better.

There aren't any proprietary cables for the Sega CD 1 or 2, just standard cables you can get cheaply pretty much anywhere.

I finally saw the Sega CD 1 intro on Youtube, and the music is not THAT bad. Of its time, for sure, and not as cool as the Ver. 2 intro, but not that bad. The morphing, shape-changing Sega logo is mega-cheesy though.

Try listening to it every single time you turn the damn thing on.

I have a working model 1 and love it, though to be honest I'm not completely sure if it works anymore since I couldn't get it to boot up last week, but I think that's only because of some power problems on my power strips since some other consoles were having the same problem until I did some rearranging (wow, talk about a long sentence!).

Model 2's music is nerdy as hell.

I like how the TurboCD/Duo doesn't have/need any music at all.

Though I will say it again, the Japanese Mega CD music was pretty cool, especially the first few times I heard it when it was brand new and exciting. I couldn't wait for it to load up Funky Horror Band!

We got the same tune for both Mega-CD models, but a changed background image. So the Model 1 has the starfield, while the Model 2 has an abstract cubes and cones look. Kind of trippy, I suppose.

well as an update,

i managed to get the music and dancing logo's to appear on the screen now. I fixed the ribbon cable from the cd unit to the main board, and now i get to see the fun effects.

I get zero action from the laser or cd. It's almost las if they are getting no power. The only thing that I have connecting the cd unit to the main board is the ribbon cable. I'm curious if there should be some sort of ac connection as well? Is there a fuse , capacitor, or diode i can check on the cd unit?

i think i can ressurect this thing, any help is appreciated.
