I'm referring to the Datel ones. Does anyone have them? Do they really work? I'm asking because I'd like one, but they go for an arm and a leg on eBay.

I actually owned both of the Datel versions. I bought them at the end of last year here in NYC and both of them work very...umm..sporadically. The original version never seemed to work at all so forget that one. The "Pro" version I used on my Genesis Model 1/Sega CD Model 1 and I would say it worked maybe 4 out of 10 times (I tried booting up Urusei Yatsura, Shadowrun and 3x3 Eyes. Shadowrun never booted up though). I even went so far to try it on the Wondermega! LOL We all know the Wondermega has a different BIOS, but that's another story ;) Anyways, for the price, they ARE a bit iffy. Mess with them enough and you'll get 'em to work. Think of the old days when someone would try inserting an NES cartridge over...and over...and over......and over to get it work. Same way :)

I have a converter, but to this day I still can't play my copy of Heart of the Alien

I'm not sure what liquidsnake is getting at exactly. Is his cart simply dirty or what? Because, trying it over and over will not do anything to make it work if a certain game does not work with the revision you have.

I own a Datel CDX Pro revision 1.8I and I can tell you it won't work with every game. Basically using it with games older than the revision will work. Only invest if you are sure it will work with the games you want to use with it. Or simply do the multibios mod and everything will work without problems. Seems cheaper as well.

I own a European Mega CD 1 and my Sega CD copy of Heart of the Alien works using the Datel cart. So, maybe Gelmir has an old revision of the cart or a different setup.
On the other hand trying to play the Mega CD (Euro) of Earthworm Jim S.E. on a Sega CD 1 will not work using the cart.

There is a small list of working and non working games in a FAQ on Famefaqs (Sega CD hardware faqs). This is old though and as far as I know there is no comprehensive FAQ.
We could start one right here, what do you think?

I recently came into a CDX Pro and am considering a few imports. I'm not sure when the cart came out though, so I don't know which games can be considered compatible. Anyone know if 3X3 Eyes and Shadowrun are compatible?

I need to know if the Datel CDX-Pro works w/ the CDX system. Does anyone know? I've searched and Googled the internet for days now and can't find an answer!

No clue, however im going to buy a US-NTSC CDX since they are so much cheaper than the PAL ones. And i might end up winning a Datel cart on ebay in a few days (hope not). If i do however, Ill let you know.

I want to be able to play Lunar 1 & 2, Vay and Popful Mail on my PAL Mega CD 2. Will they work with the Pro CDX?

I've been following this thread with interest as I've got a MultiMega with a converter. The box is a red Datel one (v.2) but I think the cart is something else, it may be better, it may not be. It's a CD+, v.3.0b. Bearing in mind the bios version of the Multimega, I knew I needed a later converter to stand any chance.
It works ok with an NTSC Rise of the Dragon and will be experimenting with some more soon.

I'm thinking it would work with Lunar 1, but I heard you have to format the RAM?
How many blocks does Lunar take up? And Popful Mail for that matter?
As I obviously can't use a RAM cart with them.

As for the Datel carts asked about in the thread, there's v.1 in the black case, which works with a MCD 1 (I had one of these carts with about 10 yrs ago) but supposedly doesn't work with an MCD2.
The red case one is v.2 and might only work on a MCD2, and maybe a Multimega.
As it has been indicated, they are bloody hard to get hold of, plus you have to do whatever research possible, so you hopefully go for the right cart for your console.
I'm referring to PAL machines here, as that's all I know, I'm not sure about what carts there are for NTSC machines, but would imagine it might be similar.

A post earlier on suggested making a list of compatible games, and I think that would be a good resource.
