Some movies/shows/plays need games! Can you think of any?

There needs to be a game based on the Tourettes Guy. I can see it now, Danny goes to the store to get some beer and it turns into a life changing adventure. It'd play a lot like GTA, but slighly more linear due to the story.

Maybe a game based on the HILARIOUS show "Mad About You". It would be a digital comic about two people who have useless conversations about things that are boring. Extra points if you can get Paul Riser to betray Sigourney Weaver on an alien planet.

Or maybe a game called "The Making of King Kong" where you play a gigantic Peter Jackson trying to lose weight (ProTip: find the razor and lose 50 pounds just by shaving your face).

It would be quite interesting if they were to make a sitcom into an RPG style game.

I like how you included 'plays' in the list of things to be licenced.

One word: SimRENT.

There's this kid at my college who wears a WW2 uniform every day. I think I should get his opinon on that. No I am not making that up, he wears a WW2 uniform, and it's like is main obession. I was at the vending machines once and he was talking about the top-10 long-range weapons used in WW2.

I once saw him at the local FYE and he was wearing a uniform. Sad...

I've seen him talking to quite a few people, despite how "wierd" he may be.

QFT. An RPG based on either Friends (even though it DID have a game: The One With All The Trivia) or Two and a Half Men would be awesome. Gaining XP with Charlie by having sex with random strangers, with multipliers depending on how many girls are in the same bed? Hell yes

No, wait, an adventure game in the style of Monkey Island would be EVEN BETTER!

Sitcom games could be cool.

Japan has scripted dating sim RPGs that could be looked at, if stuff like that 'lightly' found its way into a game presented like Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. It would be cool, probably groundbreaking, and likely milked into contempt like every other genre.

I think there need to be more biographical RPGs. Like American Cesar: The Douglas MacArthur Story etc.

Logan's Run could have been an awesome Shadowrun style game.

No Friends please! I'm thankful that it's finally not being discussed within earshot from me.

Anyway.. Who will make such games? Better yet.. Name an example of games based on movies that aren't "just-in-time" cash-ins? I can think of two: Blade Runner and Ghostbusters. Feel free to add more, as I definitely am not saying all games based on contemporary licenses are crap (Diehard Trilogy, Alien 3, Terminator CD etc), but unless there's some kind of passion behind the development process there's no need to get excited IMHO.

Don't forget ET. ;) (though technically that Wasn't Atari's problem, but tied to Spielberg setting the condition that the game had to be released by that Christmas)

Of course, there's the excellent 1997 graphic Adventure Blade Runner too. (and the later Ghostbusters game by Sega -and of course, the modern one)

Hmm 1st person eh? I'll take that as long as it's not another conventional FPS. There've been a couple recent ones already, but I wouldn't mind more WWII combat flight sims, realistic, or arcade/fantasy. (but all with GOOD FPS cockpit views, not some mediocre cockpit/nose view as an alternative to a chase view)

Actually, some other vehicle based WII themed combat games might be interesting. (not too much of that out there) There's also not much focus on the non A2A combat. (namely ground attack)

Actually the games I mentioned were pretty good considering they were cash-ins =P DHT for PS was good value, but it's dated now. Alien 3 for the Genesis was okay, and Terminator CD was a good SegaCD game with great music.

Unless of course ET was intended to be a joke.

Haven't played the Blade Runner game but Snatcher was Blade Runner pretty much, well Blade Runner mixed with Terminator and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Dune. Woaaaaaaaah!

That wasn't directly based of the 1984 film though, it was a mix of elements from the original novel and the film. (the CD re-release obviously added clips from the film)

I still want my "Excel Saga" dating sim, complete with:

- every third option being "put it in"
- numerous chances to kill Excel
- a date that gets sexually aroused from those kids mechanical rides
- a minigame where you disarm a bomb.

The world just isn't a good enough place for such jawusumness.

I heard The Warriors was pretty good, despite the clunky GTA graphics engine. I actually had the game but gave it away on impulse. That was before watching the movie.

You should try the Blade Runner game. It's still good, and there's no real puzzle solving involved. If only it used 3D models or hi-res sprites for characters.. They really look ugly when scaled.

The young ones: the video game! It'll have everything in it!
Puzzle: figure out how to keep the washing machine from vomiting Your filthy clothes out!
Adventure: Guide the guys to the nearest pub for beer!
RPG: Set out on an epic quest to recruit Cliff Richards as a flat mate!
Mini-games: See how many times You can bash (P)rick's face into a solid object!

And the best part of all!?!?

Logan's Run!! YES! And here I thought that most members here were KIDS that were CLUELESS as to anything created BEFORE 1985! ;) :D

Thats TWO points for Nunzio! First I get that picture of the succulent Tyra, and now a Logan's Run suggestion! Hats OFF good sir!

What about a game based on the Bush Presidency? It could be a combination of Desert Strike and Barney's Speak and Spell!!

Oh, and if you are gonna do a "sitcom based game" PLEASE do one based on a 60s/70s sitcom, cause lord knows those were the only ones worth watching! ;)

Cheers!

Is Blade Runner appearing on GOG a possibility? Don't EA own the rights, or is it the The Ladd Company? Anyway it most definitely deserves a re-release with compatibility patches for Vista/Win7

The BttF game could work as a springboard for a sequel if they ever wanted to do it.. Ghostbusters III became a possibility partly thanks to the warm reception of the videogame.

Yes, it's a real shame all those poor Simpsons themes games got released and no port of the great arcade game...

We need a game based on this not these crappy movies that come out
And also not a mediocre C64 game or awful Famicom game. ;)

I'm sure Mark Bussler would approve. ;)[/QUOTE]

Hey now! Ghostbusters II had its redeeming traits!! (Was NOTHING next to the OG, but still...)
It wasn't great but it was more tolerable than the first game (even the C64 original). There's also the cool Genesis game and an obscure second NES title usually referred to as "New Ghostbusters" and I think that one allowed simultaneous multiplayer and lots of character options, that and it had its own plot iirc. (winston was blue though, probably as there were too many clashing BGs where he would have otherwise blended in too much)

Then there's the Real Ghostbusters arcade game which should have gotten a home port...
