When you pressed reset did you get a grinding/clicking noise... if so, the gears might be misaligned causing the tray to not open - mine does this regularly. You might just open up the unit and check the gears regardless.

I get that noise sometimes as well. But it always has opened and closed as it should regardless. For referense.

Yeah, from the bios screen I can tell that's a model 1 SegaCD and those things love to have problems with the tray. From your description it sounds like as someone else mentioned the gear for the tray are out of whack. Normally if you take it apart slowly to diagnose where the problem is, you can fix the issue.
But quick question, is the system doing the full attract mode with the spinning logos and rocking music?

I can't tell if it's coming into view from your screenshots.

Lol, I'm picking up a copy soon too, it sounds like a hell of a game :)
If you're not getting the attract mode, then the ribbon might be disconnected from the laser assembly in the unit itself. Either way I think you're going to need to open it up and take a look.

I hope its a simple fix like the sega model 2 cd, just a quick fuse burn out or something, are all sega cd dying so soon?

It's not empty... It's filled with awesome... And awesome can only be seen by the chosen ones - like Raul.

How did you end up fixing it? Was it a fuse?

I'm wondering as well, my guess about the ribbon being disconnected comes from having done that accidentally a couple times. But I also realized tonight that if the Genesis and CD aren't fully connected it can glitch like that too.

actually thats not the whole sega cd, I removed a board that was next to the one in the pic,
I am now facing a new problem (fucking sega cd) everytime I turn on the genesis the tray just pulls out by itself, I can press start to pull it back in, but it just pulls back out.

Sounds like a gear issue. If it's getting jammed in any way, maybe it's opening it back up. Not sure if the Model 1 has that safety feature but a lot of CDROM's do. Sucks you're have having issues with it. Not a good way to first experience the true jawsomeness that is known as the Sega CD.
Check all the gears, while the machine is off try to manually open and close the tray by hand. If you feel it bind up stop and see if you can spot where it's binding. You might need to regrease the gears. Also I have heard that the tray will slightly go off track as well so check that. Good luck! It will be worth it when you can play Pier Solar in it's FULL Glory.
If you blew a fuse it wouldn't even get to the BIOS screen, PERIOD.
I have seen the problem where if you use the reset button the drawer will close then re-open. Weird bit: Pressing ABC and down (whatever it is to get to the CD player) opens and closes the drawer perfectly.

I agree with Oldskool, if it's doing the constant eject mambo then the gears are messed up somehow, or the little belt that runs raising the laser assembly is too loose. You'll need to pull the tray out to check everything which brings its own problems.
My order for fixing these things is:
1) Check fuse and ribbon
2) Remove tray, rotate assembly up and locked and test whether a game actually works
3) If laser is still good, replace the belt and realign gears
4) Put tray in and test the whole shebang
If you take the tray out you'll see a big black gear that runs everything, what needs to happen is that spins to eject the tray and lower the laser assembly, when the tray fully ejected it hits a switch on the board to indicate it's open. On close, the gear spins to close the tray and then raise the assembly, at the end of the rotation a small black nub on the bottom of the gear hits another switch to indicate the drive is closed. If all those steps don't happen perfectly then you get the eject mambo.
To find the belt, after taking out the tray pinch and slide the little triangular shield to the left, you'll see a small black band that runs between a couple gears, replace that with something tighter. Getting the tray back in is more fun though.
