View Full Version : Can any of these (crappy sports games) be made into something interesting?

I picked up a boxful of crappy sports games this past weekend for a very cheap price, intending to use the clamshells for my own loose games, and either sell or give away the inserts, manuals, and/or games themselves.

Before I do, though, I wanted to ask whether any of them are potentially useful for repro purposes (i.e. because they have onboard FRAM or EEPROMs) or anything else I haven't foreseen.

I assume none have any real value otherwise, since Madden '93 CE is the only sports game that seems to be worth anything. Plus most of them are EA games, and those cart shells aren't viable (I don't think?) for Everdrives.

Here's the list:

Boxed:
College Football USA 97 (CIB, damaged clamshell)
John Madden Football '93 (CIB)
FIFA Soccer '95 (boxed)
Madden '98 (CIB)
NBA Live '97 (CIB)
NBA Live '98 (CIB)
NFL Quarterback Club (boxed)
NHL Hockey (CIB)
NHL '95 (CIB)
World Series Baseball '95 (CIB, cardboard)

Loose:
Evander Holyfield's Boxing*
Hardball III
John Madden Football '93
NBA Action '95
NBA Jam TE
NFL Football '94
NHLPA Hockey '93
NHL '95
Pat Riley Basketball
Side Pocket*
Sports Talk Baseball
Tony La Russa Baseball

(*I actually sort of like these games, and already have CIB copies)

Of course if anyone needs one of these for their collection, drop me a PM before I start disemboweling them. I'll probably be starting a sale thread soon in the Bazaar.

The plastic shells of the games themselves might be of interest to those who make flash carts, maybe stoneagegamer

I'd just try and make a fortress of genesis cartridges myself.

Some guy made a pissoir of SNES cartridges, but Mega Drive cartridges, even if they are EA Sports games, don't deserve that.

EA SPorts games are simply available in a overabundance of supply. Now those ACK-LAME games are another story.

Only collectible game in that list is NBA Jam TE, others can be used for projects.

Based on what I'm reading here (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1614576&postcount=30), it looks like a few of these use EEPROM for saving:

Evander "Real Deal" Holyfield Boxing (EEPROM)
NBA Jam Tournament Edition (EEPROM)
NFL Quarterback Club (EEPROM)
NHLPA Hockey '93 (EEPROM)
Sports Talk Baseball (EEPROM)

Could any of those PCBs be turned into Rings of Power, or Wonder Boy in Monster World? I ask because those games have issues saving on the Everdrive (though I know there's a patch for WBIMW).

There was a guy on here who was using some EA games to repro Monster world IV and MegaMan Wily Wars

Madden 98 is probably the least common title in that list. CIB copies are worth about $10. It came out very late in the Gen's lifespan.

You can fashion them into a sort of ablative plated armor perhaps?

You can convert the carts into fuel for your car, here's how.

1. CAREFULLY remove the Blast Processor from your Genesis and attach it to your car's electrical system.
2. Hook up a cart slot for each spark plug you have in your car. For safety purposes you may want to have the cart slots in the trunk.

Once you've got it all hooked up insert a cart into each slot. When it's all ready to go you should get easily 300-400 miles per cart and your car will easily hit 400 miles per hour.

Are you trying to get us all fucking dead?
That much blast processing would cause the universe to asplode.
