For years, Wisdom Tree Games has managed to successfully avoid becoming an official licensee for the platforms on which it develops. On both the NES and Genesis, it has released several titles that have had strong sales, giving the company a longevity not common to other unofficial developers. Company leader Brenda Huff recently spoke to Sega-16 about how Wisdom Tree has managed to endure and even carve out its own little corner of the market. Check out the full interview (http://www.sega-16.com/2006/08/interview-brenda-huff/) for all the details!

is this a typo

I is legal to access a system (VCR, NES, or Sega) if you do not violate any of the copyright laws while doing it.

I think this would have been impossible in Europe. They wouldn´t have sold more than a few thousands of these games here.
But the bible games are a funny sidenote in the history of the Mega Drive, so I do want to get my hands on them someday...:D

Redrum, there is a legal loophole/technicality that allows developers to reverse-engineer consoles legally, yes.

I would have liked to see more "controversial" questions like:

How come you released your games without license from Nintendo or Sega?

Was there a reason you didn't get a license?

Why, oh why, are there male cows and female oxen in Bible Adventures?

How is a game which starts with a Bible quote where God says he will terminate the entire world population better than "violent" games?

I think those would be pretty self-explanatory.
