View Full Version : No sound! (Genesis II)

Hi guys...

I've been having a problem with my Genesis today (model II) -- there is no sound coming out from it. I've tried 10-15 of my games, and got the same result each time: the image is perfect, so is the actual gameplay, but there's absolutely no sound (i.e. not even some hiss or sonic distorsions). I've never had that kind of problem before; in fact, the sound was perfectly all right as recently as yesterday. I just tried it again and still no sound.

Did anyone else ever have this problem? If so, could it be fixed? I highly doubt that the adaptors are the culprits, because, as I said, the image is perfect, and the gameplay is as tight as usual... can a sound processor just die like this? :(

Thanks...

before going and blaiming the guts of the Sega (as if they were to go you usually would of noticed a decline in audio quality for a few days prior unless you destroyed it in one hit with say a lightning bolt or magnet... which would usually cause damage to other things too).

Why don't you make sure all connections are tight and good. Make sure the plug in the back of it doesn't have any bent pins and fit snuggly into the genny, that the audio plugs are fit tight and snug into the tv, that there is not destruction to the cables (possibly try another set if you have some lieing about), and not to sound like an ass or nothing make sure the TV isn't muted or anything.

Anyways what kind of cables are you using? RF, composite (Red White Yellow)?

The genny breaking on the inside and stopping sound is uncommon, on top of that with it breaking it would be hard to diagnose with out looking at it. You'd have to pop it open and see if a resistor popped or a line broke or pin on the plug. The damage (though unlikely) could occur in a number of spots on the mainboard.

WTF? Of course I checked all of this.

Unfortunately I don't have other cables as of now.

RF.

Hey you always gotta check... I never know, never meet ya, you've had 7 posts and all.

Anyways; RF... and any other RF connection from other media works fine? Now that one makes it doubly weird.

How techno savy are you per chance??? If you have a little suave (picture little dash over e) then do this.

Go to here! (http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/genesisav.htm) and pinout all the audios (there are 3; Left, right and mono, mono is used in RF) and test all three of them through some receiver like a boombox with RCA inputs. Remember to ground each one. (just use like sewing needles and wire upto each one). If they work that means your plugs are bad, if they don't then you need a new genny. And if they work you can make your self a set of A/V cables this way.
