This game was pretty weird for the PC. And I just saw it was on mega-drive:

Is it available on Genesis? Sorry the picture is huge.

I was sure it was, but the Sega-16 master list has it as EU only. Thank heavens for small favors; Rise of the Robots wasn't exactly the best. (Ebay only has Mega Drive versions, BTW.) The game has some awesome cover art, I'll give it that.

Yes, I guess the PAL version is more common. Mirage is a european devloper after all.

The art in the second game was nifty, but it stunk. I only bought the PC version years ago because it came with a CD Wallet, and it was a buck. Not a bad deal, IMO.

Hmm... I guess not after all. I looked all over the place and it looks like it was not. I probally saw a mockup box art or somethin.

Import it. I will tell you for a fact it will run on ANY Genesis system, even your CDX. The game has no region protection, so you can still buy it. ::)

who cares?!? it's right up there with the gash-est of the gash-est games (not just fighters) of all time!

i paid my mom's hard earned £££'s for that pile of shite arsed cack back in my yout(h) just beacause of that great cover art (so foolish!).

just think of the last time nostalgia kicked you in the happy sack and multiply it by 100-that's how bad this game looks, feels and plays!

STAY AWAY!!!

Yeah, yeah nice pre-rendered graphics.
But you must be a masochist if you really intend to buy it. Rise of the Robots is well known for being one of the worst videogames ever!
For example, in single player mode, you can only play one robot. The enemies appear in a strict order, each one stronger than the one before. So in 2-player mode player 1 plays the standard robot and player 2 chooses one of the others. And the robot from stage 6 for example really is stronger than the ones before, even in two player-mode. Not to mention the awfull gameplay with a very limited move-palette. This is easily the worst Genesis beatém up.

Believe me, it´s just horrible, even more horrible than any Wisdom Tree game could ever be.

Wait a second.... I recall that website. They have some unreleased games listed. Lufia was NEVER released for the Genesis, and neither was Indiana Jones - Greatest Adventures. Store looks like bunk, kid.

They probably have them listed as Genesis when they're mega-drive or something. I have yet to actually visit it.

OK you guys convinced me. Espically with the gameplay description. I'll stick with just getting Zero Tolerance =)

Okay, if you liked the PC-version, go and buy it.
Every version of the game is bad, and if you had fun playing the PC version, there´s no reason that you´re not gonna have fun with the MD-version.
But you´re actually the first person I ever heard of who liked Rise. In Germany the game got between 10 and 40 of a possible 100 points in all magazines if I remember correctly.

I had another thread about this shop. They have prices for unrleased Genesis-games like Lufia or Indy´s Greatest Adventures. Those games were never released in any region.
When I mailed them about that, they just put my e-mail in their spam-folder.

I haven't played the game since it came out for the PC. So whats that like 12 years? LOL

I want it just for the nostalgia, just to pick it up again and be like "oh I remember that!". I remember playing that and sam & max =)

A hideous game that I'm strangely fond of. All versions play terribly, but they all play differently. The mega drive version plays better than the PC version, but that isn't saying much. At least you can't beat it just by holding up-right and fire like on the amiga version. The 3DO version is probably the all round best, and curiously I believe it is the only full screen PAL game on the system.

Well, that's a perfectly legit reason to buy a game, regardless of how bad it is.

Proving it's cheap I agree with you. This game is not worth spending too much money on, as once the reminiscing’s done it is effectively worthless.

He did for the original as well, but his record company didn't let them use most of it. All that is left is part of "The Dark", which sounds terrible on the Megadrive. Because they were released later the 3DO and CDI versions also had the song "Resurrection", but without most of the lyrics.

I've only come across one positive review of the game in a printed magazine, and in that review, the SNES version received a 91/100, and the PC version a 90/100. The most shocking part of all is the score of 92/100 given to the "Playability" of the SNES release. I doubt the mag spent much time with the game, given that the review is advertised on the cover as "EXCLUSIVE! Mow 'em down! RISE OF THE ROBOTS FIRST REVIEW." They probably received it with an afternoon till deadline and spent most of that time taking screenshots, given the number of them in the review. As much as their favourable treatment of Rise of the Robots brings into question the journalistic credibility of ol' Computer and Video Games, "The mag real gamers read," in this same issue they give Alien vs. Predator for Jaguar a very thorough review and a score of 90/100.

Personally, I think the game is crap. I was really excited to play it after seeing all the previews back in the day, but all it took was one rental to realize the true turd conceiled beneath the stylish toilet paper wrap. The sequel is more playable, but still completely devoid of fun.

I remember a few strangely positive reviews back in the day. IIRC they might not have even played it, but just watched it being played by company reps.

Rise was really hyped in the UK ages before its release so I would imagine that the publishers tried to hide that it was a dead dog for as long as possible. I remember reading stuff about how they had looked at all the other fighting games on the market to make sure that rise was better than them, yet to play rise it looked like they hadn't played a fighting game since the early '80's.

Yes, the hype for Rise was immense. A lot of money was spent on print ads. I guess some mags did not dare to bite the hand that fed them...
