I cringe whenever I have to go back to 1024x768 on my home machine. It's so...small... o_O

1280 x 1024.

I like it. 800 x 600 feels like a magnified setting for the vision impaired to me now.

Not worth it unless you have a wide-screen display. :D

Let's extend this topic a bit.

Anyone still working with CRT monitors, or have we all hopped on the LCD bandwagon? Everything I own has an LCD monitor, and I couldn't be happier. Well, they could be bigger, and then I'd be happier, but aside from that, yeah, I'm pretty happy.

I'm still working on ol' warp-screened CRT.

Hmm, yeah, I probably should have mentioned that one of my monitors has a nasty ol' bruise from an accident involving an overly curious cat. And another one has a dead pixel, but it's not terribly noticable.

EDIT: Hey, wow, I hit 100 posts some 9 posts ago. Awesome. I feel I should be dancing.

I had to scroll the screen left & right 10 times to read that post.

I have a lovely old monitor that needs a few punches before it actually works.:D

I have an old View Sonic 17" at 1024x768 I use at home. I'd love to get a flatscreen for it at some point. Up until recently, LCD monitors were terrible for color work (graphic design, which I do for a living) and twitch/FPS games. But the technology has advanced quite a bit where there is almost no blurring for FPSs on good screens and the color is comparable (and sometimes better) than CRTs.

I've had a 15" LCD for the past year or so. They are much more awesome than any CRT monitor due to the amount of room they free up.
When I upgrade my PC, later in the year, I shall be investing in a 17/19" LCD.

I feel most comfortable with 1024 by 768. I remember the days when this was regarded as a high resolution. Unfortunately people are calling it a low res now which is a shame, 1280 by 1024 and the like just seem way to small, it's like... How far are people wanting to go? 1024 by 768 is fine damn it! :p

I suppose 1280 by 1024 is fine on a 19 inch monitor though, but for a 17, it's very, very small. That's why I stick to 1024 by 768, it just feels 'right' on my 17 inch.

erm.. it must seem kind of blurry also.

i run 1280x1024... i upsize the display of text in web browsers / documents
and i know my way around my system setup, so reading aint an inssue.

i have an LCD on my work pc, and my gaming rig, both @ 1280x1024.
CRT on the "family" box in the living room.. @ 1024 x 768

and the TV running the media centre.. not sure what res that thing is at, but i thinmk its PAL..

1280x1024 should only be run on LCDs made for it, OR a CRT that is NOT 4:3... (as 1280x1024 is a 5:4 aspect, not 4:3..

Laptop: 1024x768
Macintosh Desktop: 1280x1024 (LCD is of propper aspect)
