No disrespect or anything but how about stepping off the throttle a bit? Every day you post some UBER ROXXOR IPOD GREATEST EVAR thread. While your enthusiasm is good, seems over the top.
Back on topic: C:HC critically speaking is really a bit overdone IMO. The game runs way too fast, and because of that, overemphasizes the need to memorize the levels, and progressively get better at not dying at early levels. Seems to me Konami just took the raw processing power of the 68K a bit overboard after working with the slow SNES CPU, and made this mad ass Contra-on-Crack game.
The color palette suffers, and waiting through the slow chat and menus also kills the mood. I'm, a Contra fan but I'd have to critically give this a 6/10 at best. The game is just too raw, the fidelity of the music is shit(although the melodies are good), and Konami just threw it all together to abrubtly, save all the cool SFX of course.
NES Contra: 9.5/10
NES SuperC: 8.5/10
SNES Contra: 9.0/10
Of course Konami's bastard, Treasure and their Gunstar Heroes pisses all over most other Contras. And IMO, Metal Slug series > Contra series, any day, any time.

Contra Hard Corps is amazing. It's very precisely crafted, full of action, and it controls perfectly. The previous Contra games lack the variety, intensity, and lasting value that Hard Corps has.

Call me wuss but that game is just too frustrating for me. I'd rather just play one of my Slugs. I'm not hard corps enough for that Contra game.

You have NEO hardware? AES, MVS? Have a favorite slug? I favored Slug 1 followed by 5, X, 3, 4, and 2.
I have a very early model AES. At one time I had all 6 metal slugs, but have been selling them off. Switching to MVS at some point.

I have a fairly low model AES (11,000 range), with Slug 1,3,5....the MS1 is a conv. I just can't bring myself to really get into any Contra type games with these Slugs sitting here....I mean, do I want to play a mediocre action game, or play a masterpiece? I have 11 games and all good, but I've been done with the NEO for awhile now....I just don't want to spend the money. I'm happy with the games I got...although the one game I still want is 1945 Plus.

I agree with your ratings hehe. This game is tough at first but you get the hang of it with practice. The characters are cool and the many paths give it replayability.

Contra the Hard Corps is in German Mega Probotector (Humans = Robots ) i have two versions of this game your american version and the pal game. The are identic just the Humans turned into Robots
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/remy.delmonte/site/images/Megadrive/jeuxeuropeens/Probotector%20EUR.jpg
Contra / Probotector is one of the few games, that is in japan easier then in the other world !
in the japan version each life has 3 hit points ! in the german / us versions you are death with a single shot !
however i have finished contra / probotector without losing a credit and i have seen all the 5 endings ! that cost much time ( ca 130 hours ) and its very hard training
for my its aktually the best shooter that i have !
it must be in every collection !
PS: You have said the speed of the game is too fast...
when you have a modified pal machine ( 50 / 60 herz) and switch during gameplay to 60 herz thats fast ! and thats the biggest fun !
PSS the Nes Version's of Contra a great the

I've always wanted to try the Genesis version of Contra because it supposedly does things that the Genesis was never able to do like scaling and rotation. Believe it or not, I never really got into the Contra series. The only one I ever played was on the SNES and I was pretty impressed with it even though, for me at least, it was pretty difficult. I heard the Genesis version is equally tough. Don't know if I could handle it in my advanced age LOL!

Well, I couldn't. I could only get by in two player mode with a friend. unfortunately none of my friends have the patience or tolerance for humiliation I do. This game is tough.

Tough or tedious? Many call The Adventures of Batman and Robin tough without mentioning that its true flaw is having a horrible sense of pacing.
Not tedius, there's neough variety and changes in the scenery/gameplay to make it fun. Its just too damn tough.

Don't feel bad Mel, more often than not old games are hard as a bitch, Contra just happens to take the cake!

Lots of Genesis games do scaling and/or rotation. It's just not hardware enabled.
That said, Contra Hard Corps's graphics are rather impressive, and the scaling is extremely well-done (I don't recall any rotation).

Man, before I got this game I heard all about how the difficulty was stupid hard in the American version. Once again a clear case of the Japanese release being superior in every way. But after actually playing it, jeez, the Japanese version must suck. The game is difficult, but not overly so, and most importantly, it's fair. There's lots of memorization, but still, the game gives you plenty of leeway in actually avoiding most attacks. Not only that but half the time if you have the right weapon the bosses will go down before getting out half of their moves.
Easily one of the best games for the system.

That is one of the problems I had with the originals for the Nintendo. They were difficult to play when you got to the 3D levels. They were unweldy, and there as just too much going on at one time for the NES to deal with. The 3D levels were WAYYYY better in Super C.
With that said, I don't have Hard Corps now, but plan on buying it within the next month along with Gunstar Heroes. I found both for 10 bucks (each).

I am a hard core Contra fan! I own Contra and Super C for my NES, Operation C for the GB Classic, Contra 3 - The Alien Wars for the SNES, Contra Hard Corps for the Genesis, Contra Shattered Soldier for the PlayStation 2 & Contra Advance for the GBA. I must get Neo Contra for the PS2. I just plain love the Contra series, period!

I don't think the '3d' levels in the first Contra were that bad. However what really bothered me were those awful top-down levels in Contra 3. Felt like a terrible excuse just to use Mode7 effects.

Contra HC ownt,Boomm and the snes was blown totaly away by the hard core pace of Conra HC,If snes was a human, then the genesis with contra wouldnt leave a bit tenderness left for the snes,It would have pulled al its fucking organs out of its body.Contra hc is the best and way to hardcore to handle for snes, comparring contra 3 to HC would be comparring a slowwer game too a fucking adrenaline ride, for its time,It would be like comparring Techno synth, orchestrals that dont fit the contra theme,To fucking hard techno metal.BTW contra HC isnt difficuylt at al,maybe chalenging but not difficult or frusstrating.in the end it would be the battle of the turtle aggianst the rabbit,The rabbit wins in speed ,but if youve watch the loony toones the turtle wins because its smarter,so that wouldnt be correct.Oke (contra 3)waterpistol(contra HC)fu...king machinegun.Contra never been better than contra HC,the ones on ps2 are just recycle versions.BTW every contra on nes still rules.Eat Contra 3 if you are a snes only boy,and hate genises contra hard corps,Oke if its youre uppinion no probe but if you are going to conclude it is a fact that its better than,Eat your contra 3,because maybe youre getting youre ass whipped by people that disagree with you because their right.

Ahh, Contra: Hard Corps, it kicks ass! Great blasting action and challenge for two players. It is really hard, but that's what makes it fun. You just have to learn the patterns of the enemies and especially the bosses. Know when to use which weapon, how to defend etc. Do that and you'll get a little bit longer every time you play. Me and my brother has seen all 6 endings. :)

Really? I loved those levels. They weren't Contra quality or anything, but they were a fun break from the scrolling.

I loved those Mode 7 levels too..that was the shit
Seriously, the frustrating...whatcha except with a name like "HARD CORPS" they ain't kidding!
Damn great game and I must say the soundtrack is very enjoyable. Plus being one of the first Contra games to have multiple-endings was a top notch. I laughed my ass off when I saw the caveman ending.
Check out the commercial in the archives.... Hard Corps is awesome lol.
I never could get into gustarheroes. The whole colorful thing killed it for me. Metal Slug is great though, but it's no contra challenge wise.
