Someday, the world will tire of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, and corporate executives will mesh game shows with reality T.V., giving us Fatal Rewind. Yes, after Dr. Phil and Oprah, it will be time to watch people die! This is the true and only future for television, and Sega-16 gives you a glimpse of tomorrow with our review (http://www.sega-16.com/2006/09/fatal-rewind/) of the game that tells it all!

You know, I really loved this game, but the actual gameplay doesn't have any "game show" feel to it at all (unlike, say, Smash TV). Really great game, challenging and fun, but the premise seemed tacked-on.

In any case, the review says PC like 90 times in the opening paragraph, but this game (like many computer ports on Genesis) was for Amiga, not PC. The review acknowledges this fact later on, so I don't get why it says PC PC PC.

Also, my copy says 1991, not 1993. Perhaps the Japanese version came out two years later? That would explain the differences as new additions for Japan, not subtractions for us. And it would make sense for a Western developed game to come out in Japan last.

Ah, it did.

The opening paragraph is basically:

1) Genesis is a system capable of doing faithful PC ports.
2) Electronic Arts is a publisher of innovative PC games.
3) Psygnosis is a much lauded PC developer.

A personal computer is a personal computer, which is a generic term that encompasses far more than just IBM-PCs. You note that I correctly attribute the game to being on the Amiga, but it really didn't belong in the first paragraph which is just introducing that the game is a computer game ported to a console. Having to attribute the game as being an Amiga game didn't help the simple point of the introduction and may confuse readers unfamiliar with that platform.

The date was addressed by CRV. I don't believe the additions are a factor of the late release since those additions were standard on the Amiga original. I think it was likely a cost issue (cost of ROM space, debugging, etc.) not making it worthwhile to include for the US publisher, but I really don't know anything for certain. I have both versions of the game, but I chose to review The Killing Game Show to spotlight the changes from the computer to the Genesis to the MegaDrive. Since Sega-16 focuses on Genesis versions of games over MegaDrive ones when available, that's why the review is listed as "Fatal Rewind" and that title screenshot is used.

To most people, "PC" means IBM-compatibles. Nobody calls a Macintosh a PC, for example.

You could've just said "Amiga" right off. Psygnosis didn't even make any PC (dos/win) games back then. Also, as Genesis shares its main CPU with the Amiga family, and had much more Amiga ports than PC ports, it makes more sense to talk about Amiga from the beginning.

Fun game, good music. The opening theme reminded me a lot of Escape from New York for some reason.

And that "GET READY TO DIE" when you start it up is awfully cheery...

I'm backing up what J-Factor said (3 years too late), the Amiga is not a PC, it is a Home Computer
