I saw this over at NeoGAf. Words just can't describe my feelings....

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=120780

I threw away over a dozen classic consoles and components today. What did I do?? #1 (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4396580&postcount=1)
I had the last bit of stuff to remove from my previous house which is being sold next week, and a lot of it was classic video game stuff. Thanks to a terribly cranky back and a sweaty, tired self, I made a snap decision at the storage facility to just shitcan this stuff once and for all. Now, I adore classic games. That's my era, the one I grew up in. I got the 2600 plus Combat, Breakout, Adventure, Circus Atari and Video Pinball in 1979 and have been in love with video games since. But do I need this stuff anymore? It's been following me around for years in boxes and boxes. Dusty and cobwebbed, maybe I'll pull a console out once a year to hook up to the TV instead of playing an emulator.

And yeah, I can play most of these games on emulators, so it's no huge deal. But I'm also a firm believer in preserving cultural items because once you throw them away, that's it, they don't come back. But **** it. My back was screaming.

Here's what I threw away, all in working order last I checked:

2 x Atari 2600
2 x Atari 5200 (1 two port, 1 four port)
Colecovision with 2 regular controllers and 2 Super Action controllers
Coleco steering wheel
SNES with adapter for SNES/SFC/NES/FAM
Professor SFII add-on for the SNES (allows you to play roms on a real SNES) plus about 1000 disks of roms
2 x Odyssey 2 with voice module
Intellivision mk1 with Intellivoice module
Intellivision mk2 with Intellivision computer + keyboard
Microvision handheld (okay, this was broken)
Fairchild Channel F
Bally Astrocade

In the garbage. For the record, I kept the Vectrex, TurboDuo, Sega CDX and all my games, of course. I'm not that stupid. So, should I burned at the stake in Gamerville, or lauded for throwing out a bunch of dusty plasic boxes which really have no major historical value?

Wow. Wow, I can't believe someone would do that.

As much insight as this fellow seems to have into preserving culture you would think he would have at least given this stuff away instead destroying it. I honestly don't think he had any right to do that. What would people say if a Picasso or a Worhol were destroyed because someone didn't want to carry it? They would say, "Thats part of our heritage, you had no right!", and thats what I say now.

If the poor baby's back hurts he could have at least left the stuff on the curb for someone else to find.

He could have made a lot of money from selling those.
What a retard.

Huh? NES/Famicom adaptor for the SNES? I demand an explanation! Maybe he is throwing away imaginary items.

Could be lying just for attention.

I hope it's all lies. If not, what a poor decision. There was some cool stuff in that doomed heap. If I happened to come across that stuff in a dumpster, you better believe I'd go for a dive.

Oh, me too. Dignity is hardly an issue when there's old video games at stake!

How does this make him the world's biggest idiot? He threw junk away. Useless, disgusting items. Selling them would only get him very little money, and it would hardly be worth the effort. I would do the same if I junk like that.

Atari 2600 - Junk, unplayable, and not worth anything.
Atari 5200 - Same.
Colecovision - Even worse. This thing is huge too.
Coleco Steering Wheel - Wow. Why did he even have that?
SNES with adapter - While it isn't worth anything, it is too nice to throw away.
Professor SFII - Now this would've gotten him a bit of cash if he had sold it.
Odyssey 2 - Junk junk junk.
Intellivision mk1- More junk.
Intellivision mk2 - Unlimited Junk 2.0.
Microvision handheld (okay, this was broken) - State-of-the-art junk.
Fairchild Channel F - JUNK!!
Bally Astrocade - Junky junk.

Awesome analysis! I love how you don't need to provide any reasons why an old console is junk, just restate junk enough times and viola! We magically "get it"! Bravo, I say! BRAVO!

Here's an idea... Instead of selling them if indeed they weren't worth much, which is pure bullshit, he could have given them away to people who placed value on them. Various people over at NeoGAF stated over and over they would have paid well for his junk, let alone take it off his hands stress free.

I know it blows your mind that you didn't think about that. I mean with all that "junk, junk, junk" filling your noggin, it's hard to come up with alternatives.

There is one reason this guy pitched his stuff (if he really did; it's possible he's lying). And that reason is...

...he wants attention!

Which is what we're all giving him right now. C'mon, guys, who really cares what some insecure nobody claims he did with his equipment?
