View Full Version : Shining Force CD Question
Hey,
Im back after playing through Book 1 in SFCD. On my 9th try I finally killed Woldol :D, but I have a question: I know it didnt save after the end credits, so I want to know if book 2 was unlocked automatically despite the game not saving.
I already transfered the data to my ram cart, and I want to begin book 2 tomorrow.
Am I right? Or did I screw up and not save and have to do the whole thing over again!!
(Glad to say the battery issue has become a thing of the past (obviously))
Thanks!
edit: I think I found the answer.....

From what I remember, you must save your game at the end in order to open up the next book. But I haven't played through it in about 10 years...

You need to have your game saved on the cart and then after choosing your next adventure it will ask you just before beginning play if you want to play as a sequel.
I think. But that's always been a tricky data transfer and I haven't played in quite a while.

I was worried about this too, when I played the game. But I don't remember saving the game after defeating the final boss. You just choose to play as a sequel on book II and pick the pre-final boss file, IIRC.

Yep, turns out you're correct. I just transfered over my pre-final file to the ram cart and selected that after 'play as a sequel'.
Im on book 2 now weeeeeeeee :D

Make sure you pick up the Muesuem Ticket in battle 5. 'Tis in the well there. It'll give you another adventure.

I hear the, uh, "little" battle you do in the museum is pretty rough, lol

Oh it is. I'm a Shining Force fanatic and I've never beaten it myself. But it's worth getting.
I just picked up shining force III for my new saturn. I hear it's pretty good and I cant wait to play it.

It's my favorite of the three scenarios. I bought it as soon as it came out in Japan and picked up the english version when it came out as well.
As much as the other two have to offer, the first scenario feels the most balanced and planned out of three to me.

I intend to buy all 3 since Im a collector, but the first one is probably going to be the most enjoyable to me considering I dont speak any japanese lol. I hear the other 2 are pretty good though, so when I start working Im picking them up as well as psychic killer taramaru (dunno if anyone else hear has heard of it).
I picked up panzer dragoon 1, 2, and saga for a simply unbelievable deal via ebay, but im waiting on an american saturn to arrive at my door (got it for dirt cheap) so I can play it. I have the skeleton saturn, but it turns out saga is one of like 4 games that wont work with the action replay cart! D'OH!

I disagree with that entirely. The first one, though great, is more bland than the other two. Easier as well. The characters have less depth, most of the bosses are less interesting, and poor Synbios suffers both as a character and from his voice-acting.

I wasn't talking about aesthetics. The other two seem chaotic and unbalanced at times with the pacing. Taking something simple and dumping in a bunch of extra junk doesn't necessarily improve a game.
But like I said, this how they feel for me.
Was voice acting added to Synbios for the english version? I must not have listened to any of the speech. They way I remember the scenarios, is that in each version the hero is mute, like in all real SF games.

Speaking of the Shining series, I like how all of the Saturn incarnations (Wisdom, Holy Ark, III, etc) all use Saturn chip tunes for the music. No streamed music, but actual system MIDI like Genesis carts. This is what the system would sound like if it were purely cartridge based.... and that sounds pretty good!
sayy....how come there's no saturn section? I mean, I know this is only "16 bit", but you guys DO have the 32X adapter on here. Why not make a saturn section?

There's no Saturn section, largely because most of the people here are Genesis elitists. I think.
And on the subject of SF3, there wasn't voice-acting for most of the game, but in battle when there were special attacks or magic used there would be a little voice clip. And Synbios sounded like a little-boy trying to sound like a grown man.
And in terms of the added stuff, most of the stuff that was added did work IMO. And that's why the other two are better.

I guess it's because the 32X is really a Mega Drive addon. It's not 32-bit, it's 16-bit times two! :P

Really? I think it *might* have something to do with this place being a Genesis site (and related peripherals, of course), hence the name SEGA-16. More research is necessary and government grants are needed to find the definitive answer to the burning question of why there is no Saturn forum on a Genesis site.
Now why isn't there an NES section? Or a Commodore 64 section? These questions are just as valid as to why there is no Saturn section.

Oh yeah, most of the english voice effects were terrible, but they were only in the North American version.

Well, although both the NES and C64 were host to "SEGA" games, just like the Saturn, they weren't part of the "16" bit generation. Now why isn't there a Turbografx/PC Engine section?

I still think adding a saturn and DC section would be cool. I mean, what harm could be done?

I think that a Sega Master System section would be best before Saturn or Dreamcast.
The Megadrive/Genesis does actually play SMS games.

yeah I agree. I completely forgot about the SMS lol.

And that's precisely my point. This is primarily a 16-bit site, and primarily a Sega site. That sarcastic attitude of your post is because most people who visit a Sega 16 site are rabid Genesis fans. Or fans at the very least. Your point is valid, but your attack on my post just proves that sort of elitism. Adding 32-bit forums would radically change the outlook of the site I admit, but part of th reason that there isn't a call for that is because of the elitism.
