One of the most original and fun group of games to originate on the Genesis was Electronic Arts' Strike series. Three games were released in total, and the franchise eventually moved on to the next generation consoles. This week, we're taking a special look at the series, with reviews for both Jungle Strike and Urban Strike, as well as a special retrospective on the entire run of titles. Check out our review (http://www.sega-16.com/2006/10/jungle-strike/) for Jungle Strike and see why you need to play these games!

YEAH JUNGLE STRIKE! I loved this as a kid, and it holds up now.

Does anyone remember the EGM issue where Shaq was a guest editor, and promptly mentions how much he loves this game? And why the hell has that stayed with me all these years?

How timely! I just bought Jungle Strike (The Sequel to Desert Strike) today for $1.50 at a thrift shop complete and in mint condition! I have Desert Strike (The Prequel Jungle Strike and Urban Strike) as well, but probably won't bother Urban Strike (The Sequel to Jungle Strike and Desert Strike).

Had a go on Jungle Strike for the first time the other day. It's really not my thing (I dare not call it boring after the review said I couldn't). I am also probably the only person who has never played Desert Strike.

I loved this series (I own the three titles). It offers a really challenging game play.
It’s fantastic to remember those games… and that intro music is awesome!
Great review! Thanks.

I can't remember all the games in the "Strike" series

Desert
Jungle
Urban
Soviet
Nuclear

Were there only those 5?

Yep, just those 5. I never did try Nuclear Strike, heard it was disappointing.

That reminds me...

Oh snap! I never sent it to you? I'll have to do that then, as I picked up a box and manual for it when I went to Orlando in August. Now you'll get a complete copy!

Awesome!

Now i'll just have to clear out my litle bookcase some more for another box....

Thanks.

I enjoyed Nuclear Strike well enough, although it was tough as nails and confusing at times. Anyone played Soviet Strike?

Soviet Strike on the Saturn is the shiznit with the Mission Stick. The Saturn version has more weapons than on the Playstation, and it runs pretty solid.

I want a mission stick. I can see it working well with Sega Ages: After Burner 2.

And Space Harrier (just like the arcade... oh man). Melf refuses to sell me his Mission Stick.

Space Harrier and After Burner 2 with the Mission Stick - ecstasy!

Joe want it Joe, but you can't have it! :p

I can vouch for that Mission Stick, pure joy.

And here all i have is "Soviet Strike" on PSX (well, as far as post-Urban Strike)

I have all 5. Completed Desert and Jungle Strike but as far as I can remember I got stuck on an Urban Strike level for ages (think its where you run around in a building for the first time) and after doing that I seem to remember a level where the map showed you nothing at all along with every area being a Danger Zone. Impossible :)

As for Soviet and Nuclear, I actually haven't got round to playing those yet.

I demand that somebody send me a Mission Stick immediately. It will not be returned.

You gave it a 9....good job. This game is great, I enjoyed playing it as a kid and it's even better now I know how to do stuff properly on it. Great game.

I love Jungle Strike. Soviet Strike is my favorite of the series, but Jungle Strike is definitely a close second. I thought the absence of music was fitting to the game, somehow.

I think Jungle Strike was the best, but I hated that level with the Hovercraft. Ugh that vehicle sucked!

I did have this game back in the day, it could be fun but also very challenging at times, the helicopter was sometimes very annoying to control, but once you get past that you could have fun with the game. Extensive missions were quite a cool thing, though playing the game today, the awkwardness of the helicopter doesn't really impress me that much. The ground terrain is sometimes quite depressing to look at, but that's just me!
