Corporation was called Cyber Cop in the US. For a while... it was advertised as Corporation. It wasn't released in Japan.

There are so many name differences... What's the point?

Castlevania Bloodlines was called Vampire Killer in Japan.

Japanese version (http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/sparkster/sparkstermd.jpg) only, it seems. My mistake

There are so many name differences... What's the point?

Because sometimes names are trademarked, or already in use, or are simply too fruity to be used in other regions. The Mega Drive name was already copyrighted in the States, hence the name Genesis; Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure was rightly renamed to DeCap Attack! :p

Joe: Probotector. Google always thinks I'm searching for projectors :(

Probably because it's called Probotector in the EU ;)

Yup, entire Contra series in Europe is known as Probotector: Galaxtic Condoms! (Seriously it sounds like an old Eddie Murphy sex joke)

Replacing all the human characters with robots to soften the damage of "violence"

Europe just can't handle violence. Here in the USA we love it and encourage it. In Japan they love and endorse it even more than the US. :)

It's really only Germany that's picky about it, and the rest of the continent suffers due to limited localization.

It also had story and character design changes, no? It was more than just a name change.

And graphic and music changes. Not that I noticed any differences or anything.

It was released in Japan as OR2019, not Junker's High.

Now this is much more interesting than just name changes: Changes to the actual game. Perhaps we can make a list.

Contra (J) gave players a lifebar of 3 HP, among other things.
Alex Kidd nudity was censored in the West.
Mystic Defender was somewhat censored :P

Or a new topic...

There was nudity in Alex Kidd? Please tell more.

Joe Redifer

If it was male nudity, then it is OK that it was censored... especially if it was Alex nudity!

Whenever you lose a game of Janken, Alex clothes get torn off and he blushes and covers himself while walking off the stage. If you win, the same thing happens to your opponent.. However, after some investigation I realised organs were either non-existant, hid under a tiny leaf (might be dyed pubic hair because the shapes and colors are odd) or covered by the enemy's hands. The weirdest one is probably the old wizard, who loses the coat and reveals he's wearing sort of a diaper, but instead of covering that up he starts waving his hands in front of his face.

Have just downloaded the Alex Kidd(J) ROM!
How does losing a game of Janken cause all of someone's clothes to disappear? I don't understand why a bear would be bothered about being naked, espcially since it appears to be lacking a schlong.

They list "Warsong 2", which was never released under that name, but they do not list the first Langrisser/Warsong...

I know about the lifebar, it makes the game almost fair...but what other changes were there?

At least Probotector had its story changed, all humans changed for robots and I think one less ending.

Then there is Bare Knuckle 3/Streets of Rage 3, mentioned in another topic in the past.

Okay, I knew of the robots, but I never heard of further story changes and another ending. Thatīs interesting.

For Streets of Rage 3 itīs the gay guy missing in the US and PAL version and Axelīs ugly yellow T-shirt I think...

And Blaze's ugly grey outfit when red was good enough for parts 1 and 2.

It's a lot more changes for SoR3... Names, clothes of female enemy, the story, the difficulty, Blaze's clothes...
