What mod, if any, is necessary to play MD carts on a US Genesis 2 console?

Mmmonkey has the answer! (http://mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/md2switches.htm) This is the dual-switchmod that allows you to change the two internal settings that dictate your machine's region (PAL/NTSC video output, Overseas/Japanese language).
For Japanese carts you'll also need a cartridge slot extender like a Game Genie or similar - or you can simply slice up your cartridge slot.
edit: As usual, the rule of thumb is that games produced from 1993 onwards will most likely be region-locked. The dual-switchmod ensures that your machine's region matches that expected by the cartridge, in effect making it universal.
(Here's an alternative dual-switchmod guide - better pictures (http://users.skynet.be/DuNe/Console/md2/md2.html))

Mmmonkey's instructions need to be changed.. He uses too much wires, than I see needed..
For example, when the traces are cut, it still boots in US mode! For some reason, they "default" to US mode.. So, all I had to do was make the switches connect to make it JAP or 50Hz, because when the switches have NO connection, it just boots up as 60Hz ENG...
Did that on both model 1 and model 2... (oh, and a US Genesis can't output PAL, it comes out very weird in color, or if your TV can't do it, black and white)..
Get a 32X, and it outputs NTSC 50Hz, so your US TVs will work, as long as they don't loose vertical hold..

I used DuNe's guide (last link in my post) to mod my machine, to be honest. MMMonkey is just easier to remember :P

yea, i went by MMMonkeys guide myself, but like I said, I modified it..
This is my mod: http://www.spymac.com/upload/gallery/2006/09/20/g484007_genesismods.jpg
as you can see, instead of 6 wires, I only needed 4... The same route works on the Genesis 2, just have to know where the "points" are...
