View Full Version : What's this? Sega-16, is that you?!?!

Chances are if you're reading this -- you're wondering if Sega-16's forums have traveled through time (or something along the lines of WTF). Well you're not dreaming -- the place got a brand new look, albeit the posts couldn't be "ported" since Melf's forum ran on the free version (which by the way requires that it's still hosted on THEIR servers). Now Sega-16 functions independently on its own server and with a new spiffy url: http://www.sega-16.com

Basically we've made the switch (for now via the front page) to get things tested on here and to ensure that it runs smoothly. You can still visit the old forum here: http://s9.invisionfree.com/Sega_16/index.php if there's something you'd like to dig up. Please help break in the new forum by posting away as usual and inform myself or Melf if you spot any "bugs". Oh, and check out the new themes too. We'll be tweaking a few other things soon over the course of the week.

Thanks,

Bahn

Melf: Surprise! I will email you the admin credentials, btw. ;)

Looks like I'll have to make the Sega16 banner on the Silver and Black themes smaller. I am currently viewing it on my work PC and for whatever reasons, it's not optimized at the right resolution like it should be. I apologize to anyone who has to scroll ever so slightly to get it view the entire forum. :)

I have to say that I am impressed beyond words with Bahn and Lhadatt's skills! The new forum is incredible, and signifies the beginning of Sega-16's rebirth.

Wonderful job fellas!

The only thing I can see wrong is the width of the window...even at full screen I need to scroll left and right to read entire posts.

But it's still nice to see Sega-16 get its own forum.

Will posting "files" still be against the TOS

The new fourms look great. The only thing I can see thats wrong with them, besides the width issue, is that the plasma skin doesn't have a link back to the SEGA-16 homepage.

Yeah, it's a nice place, but I miss being able to quickly head back to the main site. I have the forums bookmarked, cause that's the place I check first and foremost, and I assume others do as well.

Melf: Thanks man. Once Lhadatt took care of the db back end, the rest of the grunt work fell on my shoulders. And I still got quite a bit more to do (like the width matter). Don't tinker with the banner for now, I'll get to it tonight -- promise!

Dartaganan and co:

Yeah, I am aware of that width problem. I mentioned it privately to Melf via email. It will be sorted later tonight when I get in. Basically the culprit is the Sega-16 banner image on the Silver and Black themes, respectively. It's a small matter that will be easily corrected. :)

And I'll also set it up so that the "banner" will be clickable and point back to the Sega-16 homepage. I was up all night working on a few things and the sun greeted me as I began falling over in my chair. Rest assured, we're not quite done. :D

Please tell your friends about the new forum location. We hope to see more of you posting and most importantly, enjoying the new forums in action!

Melf: Just to let you know -- the URL officially is http://www.sega-16.com/forum

There's no need to put index.php as it automatically will head to that page. (Plus it looks better) :)

Yup, aside from fixing the avatar folder and the permissions (naughty guests! you must register. grr!), this is bahn's baby. I think of this as one more step for Chris toward gaining shell access to the server.

Curses. I would've succeeded if it weren't for those meddling kids!

Do you think you guys could put in our old post counts? I was rather proud of mine... :P

Well, the new place is great, except that I miss the signals for forums with new posts, and the quick reply button.

Still, AWESOME!

Unfortuantely, that's unretrievable. :)
We would've definitely ported everything over if Melf's original forum didn't have limitations to it. Only premium members of Invision could actually import data from one forum to another. Either way, this place will be back up to its regular speed (and then some) in no time.

As for the Quick Reply button, I'll check for a hack on that and will set it up this evening should I locate one. I searched for a series of different potential mods and many of the ones I saw weren't really relevant or important enough to incorporate at this time. Some will require additional database support from my GotNext colleague, Lhadatt -- but we'll see. :D

Thanks for your support and patience with Sega-16 during this transition! :D

Yeah, Knight. At the rate you post, you should be back up to your old count in about a week! :D

There seems to be something with the new [awesome] forum template defaulting back to the standard postnuke one whenever I'm logged in.
Is this normal?
cuz I just LOVE the newer one.

Thats odd I'm using the plasma skin and it hasn't defaulted back to the silver one.

Melf

I made the plasma one the default, since it's not originally included.

There is an option in your profile that allows you to pick which skin you want to use, that might solve your problem.

For those of you whose sigs aren't properly showing up... you need to use BBcode. HTML code is NOT supported for signatures. If you're uncertain how to use BBcode, please review the FAQ.

As for the "awesome" theme, I believe Melf or Lhadatt may have switched one of the standard phpBB themes to be the default. Landstalkerx hit it right on the head for the right course of action.

Thanks for the help guys :)
I probably need to UN-learn html and stuff to make things easier for myself

Yeah, but it's a good thing you didn't "force" that skin as mandatory since some folks may want to choose the other skins (unlikely, but you never know).

Melf
06-28-2005, 07:29 PM
Oh, I wouldn't make it obligatory or anything. I just wanted new visitors to see the awesome plasma skin their first time here. Really wow them from the get-go.

A week? Maybe, but I don't think I'll ever overtake you again. I took a screen shot of that...

"Wanderer of Oasis: 659"
"Melf: 648"

...or something like that.

It lasted all of a few hours, though.

Oh, so YOU'RE Oasis.
