I'm curious to see how the preferences go without the factor of $$$ involved. So let's have it, what would you want it to be?
This is of course unofficial and will have no effect on the actual game, I'm just curious to see if anyone other than Herr Baron Moneybags actually wants a historical theme.

I voted historical, because I can think of dozens of awesome settings to put a good beat-em up in.

Where's the choice for all of the above? :)

Post-Apocalyptic Cyberpunk falls into the general category of Futurisitc/SciFi. So, both.

What? No steampunk? I demand an option where everything is powered by steam. I love steam so goddamned much. It's why I take extra-long showers. Steam totally rules and is a completely viable and logical method of power distribution.

Why so much love for the 80/90s theme? Didn't we get enough of those brawlers in the 90s with all the Final Fight clones? I would much rather see something that hasn't been done to death.

I suggested that as an option originally, really shocked it wasn't an option. You think if there is any situation that makes sense where 1 person should be able to take out masses of enemies it's stupid slow zombies.
80/90's Decadence made the genre (the detractors always say "who wants another Final Fight clone?") This boggles my mind 20 years later Watermelon is going to make a "clone" game if 80/90's would have won? I like to think they could have made a game that trumps Streets of Rage 2. Anyways I wanted the atmosphere of a Streets of Rage/Final Fight with way more moves. I wanted to pay respect to the time period and poke fun at it as well. Also I wanted to see some of today's pop culture represented as enemies etc.

You have MAME. No zombies please, that's the dullest thing possible. And it would be especially stupid to watch them fighting well--or did you just want them to stagger around like sacks of potatoes? Golden Axe has skeletons too, close enough.
What's queer is that Futuristic/Sci-fi and Cyberpunk/Post Apocalyptic are 2 separate categories and Historical is 1. Really, all of history under 1 vote? Of course it's winning the real poll.
I suspect WM has a fixed definition of history and the great majority of those defraying it will be disappointed they've no say what portion of history goes into the game. I too would vote for Historical could I select which era but w/o that proviso it goes near the bottom. Not saying it sounds bad at all, rather entirely vague; I wouldn't mind just so long as it isn't Nazis. No more of that shit.
---Technically Medieval is distinct from Historical but since it's shared with Fantasy I wouldn't expect any setting too precise.
Personally I'd go with Futuristic if it meant a brawler based on Phantasy Star. It would be sheer awe.
But since cyberpunk is the most concrete outside of `80s/`90s (which I don't see coming out so well) cyberpunk it is. But if WM makes just another Blade Runner knockoff I'll burn every copy of Pier Solar in existence.

Agreed. I think that this Shower-Brawler should be a concept taken completely seriously. It would also be a worthy use of Australia's up and coming video game R rating.
I was a tad disappointed by the lack of a steampunk option, too. And no "cutesy rainbow nightmare brawler" either? Boo. :P
Also post-apocalyptic should have been a category on its own. Many causes of apocalypse, so more choice of different post-apocalyptic settings / characters (zombies, mutants, gangs, aliens? Etc).
I've voted cyberpunk, mainly because I feel there's more chance of an interesting end result than any of the other options (I do agree there's more scope with "historical", but there is also more potential for "boring". ;) )

Why is there no "Raul homage" option? This thread is a pox on the good name of Raul and I demand it closed immediately and it's creators given instant bannings.

80s-90s all the way. Maybe medieval/historical but I would rather have a SOR clone than a GA clone. I don't like the New World Order at all, so technocratic crap would not appeal to me for one minute.

The idea of fighting the walking dead (and those that have taken control of them) is a concept barely touched in brawling beat'em ups. '80s/'90s settings were done to death in the '90s between consoles and arcades, if you want historical settings, go play some Koei games, and if you want cyberpunk, dig through the plethora of them on various systems (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Cyberpunk_video_games) (from racing, to RPGs, to fighting games).
And so, Zombies is the only logical, meaningful choice for a bright and happy future. So says Skeletor!

What? There's Moonwalker, and if Michael Jackson wasn't an example of the living dead then I don't know what is.
'80s/'90s settings were done to death in the '90s between consoles and arcadesOnly in terms of poor quality. Brawlers have never been done to death in terms of quality; nor has any other video game genre, but even moderately enjoyable brawlers are very scarce. Anyway I didn't suggest `80s/`90s.
if you want historical settingsI don't. Apart from my Omar II/Alexandrian Library suggestion in the MGF thread.

Yes, genres other than brawler. Not the same thing. Otherwise I could've directed you to RE, Nosferatu, Countdown Vampires, Nightmare Creatures, &c. Vandal Hearts and Gatekeepers have zombies too. Plus, again, the idea is to get something well made in the cyberpunk brawler vein.
Nonetheless I've reconsidered my earlier decision and think I'm going to have to vote for Something New. Or would a Lesbian Vampire brawler fall under Historical? That would explain the gems usage.

I voted historical, at least if it's not an action version of a Koei game (we don't need Liu Bei body-slamming Cao Cao). A Gilgamesh-based brawler would get my attention right quick, and ancient Rome has possibilities galore.
Cyberpunk, not so much, and as for zombies...let's just say that I'm looking forward to when zombie chic goes back out of fashion.
