If I used a sega master system converter / powerbase converter with the mega drive will I have to change the control pads to master system control pads? or can I play the master system games using the mega drive control pads?

Yes, you can use Mega Drive control pads - the Master System Converter uses Buttons B and C on the control pad as buttons 1 and 2. PAUSE is still on the unit itself, I'd guess for authenticity.

It doesn't work for some games. Search for older topics to find out which ones.

Yeah, some games like Alien Syndrome will only work with authentic Sega Master System control pads. Due to the way the MS was designed, I don't think they could have put the PAUSE button anywhere else on the converter, though I really wish they had.

For games that only need one button, you can use Atari 2600 controllers. If you do, it makes you a better person.

If I were to use a Sega 6-button Arcade Power Stick on an Atari 2600, which button would I need to press?

Got my Sega Master System Converter II for the Megadrive II today in the mail. Well packed and not a scratch on the box by Australia Post this time. Must be my lucky day.

The converter is the weirdest looking thing and is pretty heavy. No card slot though.
