I can't believe they're phasing out original DS for DS lite! I was really disapointed when i found out the Opera web browser was only for the DS lite, i've been waiting ages for it to come out, aaargh :-S. I can't afford to buy a new DS just because they want to build a better one :bang: is anyone else here annoyed??

Nope, don't own one.
I became disheartened with the video game industry after the original Playstation and have since stuck to PC games.

I became disheartened with the video game industry since the Dreamcast... not because I am upset that Sega quit making systems, and they lost. But, I can be man enough to admit, that was mostly their fault they got fucked sales wise, not big bad Sony.
But rather, I have no more/limited intrest on what is other systems and what I have on the Xbox, Playstation and SNES I can sell and live without. I always got more excited and intrested with what was on Sega systems than everything else.
I guess Sega is one of my obessions...

Thats is one of the reasons I don't really care for Nintendo anymore, and the reason i refuse to buy anymore Nintendo handheld systems.
Also:
GBA= port city. Golly I feel great buying that game, again! Special attention should be brought to "Super Mario Brothers" in the NES classics line....$20 (when it was new) for SMB? A game to be had at any game store for under $1? :bang: Portable or not, that was way overpriced.
I'm done ranting. ;)

The NES Classics series should have been a compilation, not a pieced-out deal. It would have made for a pretty sweet collection had that been the case.
As always, as a helpless consumer, the most effective way to voice your disapproval with a product is to simply not buy it. However, if someone is willing to pay GBA title retail price for a NES or SNES port, why not sell to them? The NES Classics series probably sold decently enough in spite of the availability of NES carts and your disapproval, and it's not as if Nintendo was forcing anyone to buy their repackaged goods.
Would the world of gaming be a better place if Nintendo never released the Game Boy Pocket, GBA SP or DS Lite? These are redesigns that people were/are willing to pay for, and they're altogether improved over their predecessors.
Let the games swing the decision as to whether you want a handheld/console, not bias. If there was some sort of Sega franchise revival on the next Game Boy, you're telling me you wouldn't buy one? Hell, if you're genuinely concerned with the likelihood of a redesign arriving on store shelves to improve upon the inevitable flaws found in any launch model, deny yourself the product for a year's time and snap up the new edition when it hits the market. Problem solved.
EDIT: ...but agreeably, it is a pisser that Nintendo would cut support of the older DS model. Still, I'm sure there's at least one persevering lad in the hacks & homebrews scene who'll have Opera up and running on a DS in no time.

I'd have a hard time justifying any type of "retro games" if they were pieced out and overpriced irregardless of Sega or Nintendo making them.
The core of my ire really is just plain unhappiness with being faced with a bunch of games I've already bought or played. How do I challenge myself if a lot of what i see is stuff I've already played, and in some cases, mastered? I'd rather put my $$ towards worlds I've never seen and levels yet to be conquered.
Which is exactly what i have done.
The only way i would ever buy a DS is if it was given PDA functionality.

PDA functionality is one of the possible futures of the DS, so I've read. Once the next Game Boy is brought to market, Nintendo hinted that the DS would then become less of a gaming platform and more of a PDA. Personally, that sounds like a pretty bizarre decision to me, but hey..
There are tons of original titles on GBA and DS.. you make it sound as if their combined libraries are nothing more than ports given a collective resolution downgrade. Sure, there are a lot of ports, but you don't have to buy those if you don't want them. Being faced with the Super Mario Bros. Advanced reissues on a shelf alongside every other game is a lot different than being forced to buy one bundled with every GBA.

I dunno about you guys, but I actually prefer the original DS to the DS Lite. Maybe it's because it actually fits my freakishly large hands, or maybe it's because it has much better speakers, but I like it more. That and those things are STURDY. I can't count how many times I've dropped mine onto very hard surfaces, and it plays despite the dings and scratches to the exterior. Bah Nintendo, bah. (Of course, I also prefer the original GBA to the SP...maybe I'm just weird.)
In defense of the GBA and DS, there are a lot of high-quality original titles, and ports are not a bad thing. For example, having missed out on the SNES version, I was more than happy to buy Breath of Fire II on the GBA. And when I mean high quality original titles, I mean it. Go pick up a copy of Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis (if you can find it.) Or Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars. Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. Or better yet, Sonic Advance 2.

There's no doubt that selling an old NES game for $20 is a rip-off, but you have to remember, a lot of gamers weren't around back then. We're all getting old. As a business move, selling these classics to kids who just don't know the value of the original is pretty smart. And of course, there are the fanboys who'll digest anything Nintendo cooks up. Does this make Nintendo evil? Matter of opinion :)
Also, I love my DS lite. As with all my portable systems since the Gameboy Advance, I always wait for the first upgrade. The SP was fantastic, and the Lite maybe the best handheld ever. It always bothers me a bit when people fault Nintendo or Sony for releasing upgraded systems. You're not forced to buy anything.

I never had much of a reason to upgrade from my original silver DS. The screen difference isn't enough to sway me.
