um, that's for connecting a PS/2 keyboard to an AT keyboard connector..

it doesn't even have the right connector, let alone the right ammount of pins

At Tradera, they sold similar things under that name. I bought one and it didn't work. Got all my money back.

If I could see the connector on a 32X then it's a matter of figuring out the proper pinout.
But...I hate soldering DIN connectors...

It's the same as on a Mega Drive II.

Are you sure? Wouldn't that let you plug it into the wrong connector? OUT into the IN and vice versa?

9-pin mini DIN is a 9-pin mini DIN.. it's the SAME on the Genesis 2 and the 32X output.. (after the model 1 Genesis, SEGA switched to the 9 pin so they could throw in the stereo channels, instead of mono audio..)

the input on the 32X is the same pinout as the out.. (you can tell because the orientation is the same, and the circuits are 1:1)

I would have thought they'd use a custom pinout(it would also explain why it's so hard to find them).
In any case, any 8 pin DIN and 9 pin mini din would work, then.
grab some on Ebay or something and go too town.
the only issue is the fact that alot of the 8 pin stuff is a bare set of mounted pins and a clamshell.
Not impossible to work on, but not fun, either.

I'm sure people used to doing console mods wouldn't have TOO much trouble.

I might get a bunch of mini-coax and re-do my RGB/AV cables.

well, the layout of the DIN connector is standard..

now, where they put the "signals", that's always gonna be proprietary..

but, if you can find a male 8-pin DIN connector, and a male 9-pin DIN connector, you can solder wires to and from (you can actually use a CAT5 cable, just don't include the stereo audio channels, cause the model 1 doesn't have stereo audio out on the DIN connector)

Actually I wouldn't include the sound at all from the model 1. Just use the headphone jack as Jesus intended.

Anyway, is the 9-pin DIN that's used on the Genesis 2 and 32X something that appears on other electronic and/or computer devices? I've never seen a similar jack on anything else.

yes, actually..

An old "Serial BUS" mouse uses the SAME exact connection... that's where I got my cable for my mothers Sega Genesis...

EDIT: NOT an RS-232 Serial mouse, I'm referring to the "high resolution serial BUS mouse".. "bus" is the key term here when looking for this connector)

If anyone needs a cable for a model 2 genesis, this site sells a mini-din 9 cable that works just fine.

http://www.stockcable.com/md9p.shtml

I have tested it myself and it works great and for only $10 (the site above sells them for $25. Get the 6foot 9pin male to male cable. I am playing star wars arcade right now because of it.

I just got my sega cd 1 and 32x today and I was wondering if anyone had any cheaper sources/solutions to this problem. I want to hook all this up to my model 1 genny but the jumper cable it came with is for a model 2. Is there anyway i can mod this cable to work or do i have to spring 25 bucks for a new cable.

The sega cd, 32x and model 2 genesis was only 50 bucks so I dont want to spring half that just for a cable.

the cable you got is right.. now you need the adapter... they are hard to find, and are hard to make (getting the "right" mini-din 9.. as some are backwards)
