View Full Version : Afterburner Complete (32X)
Say what you want about the 32X, but there were some great games made for it. Afterburner Complete is a great example of what could be done with the hardware in the right hands. Check out our full review (http://www.sega-16.com/review_page.php?id=8&title=Afterburner%20Complete) of one of the best home versions in the series ever, and yet another reason you should reconsider getting that 32X (seriously!).

That version of After Burner looks amazing. I've never seen or played it before. Now I actually have a reason to hook up one of my most hated systems.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I still detest hooking up my 32x. Especially with the Sega CD too... Finding room for 3 AC adapters sucks big time. It took me a while to find one of those power strips made for huge AC adapters. About the game, Rutubo Games did a excellent job porting this game to the 32X and Sega Saturn. Though I still prefer the Saturn version because of the smoother frame rate and arranged music. I just wished Rutubo Games did the ports of Galaxy Force II and Power Drift on the Sega Saturn, but of course they didn't (if you played them you know exactly what I mean). To this day, I still have my fingers crossed for that arcade perfect port of Galaxy Force II.

Hooking up the 32X shouldn't be that much of a drag. Find a powerstrip where the outlet ports are turned 90º so that the walwarts hang off the sides of the strip.
Before writing that review, I played the heck out of the game to be re-reminded of its glory, and shortcomings.
I wholeheartedly believe every Sega nut out there must own and have installed a 32X out of principle. There are a few excellent games for it, and for a ROM-based game system, those little carts are packed with alot of goods that surpass many things the SNES ever did.

Yeah, that's the kind of powerstrip I have. It's the powerstrip made by Sega (http://www.shinforce.com/general/PowerStrip.jpg) as a matter of fact. LOL!!! I guess I'll have to stop by Walmart and pick up some additional powerstrips, just in case that one goes bad.
I so want that Sega power strip. It's so darn sexy.

I never really got into the 32X when it arrived I guess mainly because I was waiting for the Saturn to come out, so I never experienced the few good games that came out for it. Maybe I'll hop onto ebay and see if I can pick up one. I hear so many good things about Star Wars and Kolibri.
how the heck? sega mad epower strips? Damn, I just have a generic white power strip for my sega systems. Now im jealous.

A pretty much perfect port of the arcade game..graphics, music, sounds.. its all there! All thats really missing is a nice joystick like the arcade cabinet. Play it with that and you have the arcade game!
Fine review.. I would give it an 8.

Other than the faded colors in areas, it's a perfect port, despite the lack of a joystick controller.
Sega Ages Afterburner + Saturn Mission Stick= arcade bliss.

Wow, I did not know about this fact, as I thought Rutubo Games did all the Sega Ages titles for the Saturn in Japan. Let's hope the PS2 version of Galaxy Force II will be arcade perfect.

I remember playing this game at the arcade. It seemed so futuristic back then (and that was in 94). It was great. Can't wait to play it on the 32X.

If you don't already have it, get it. If it's not 100% arcade perfect, it has to be 99%.
Oh, and yeah, the 32X version of AB2 is a fantastic port. Not quite arcade perfect, but amazingly close.

I do love this game but I don't think Sega should've ported these games on the 32X when there were better candidates out there such as Revenge of Death Adder and Spiderman.

Spiderman (http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?p=157744) was on 32x...
Revenge of Death Adder wouldn't have been able to be done on the 32x. Haven't we gone over that before?
I think Michael Jackson's Moonwalker arcade would have made a good candidate for the 32x.

I was talking about the arcade game but I should've been more specific. And Baloo the 32X did decent translations of Model 1 games i'm sure it could done good translation of the System 32 games which was weaker than the Model 1 board.

It's been said before, but I'll say it again: the 32X version of AfterBurner released in 1994 runs at half the framerate (30fps) of the 1987 arcade game (60fps).
The Saturn version of AfterBurner released in 1996/1997 was the first to be "as good as" the arcade, and 99.9% perfect.
