On Yule Eve (on Sunday), as we call it in Sweden, my mother will take a month long trip to Thailand with my stepdad. She's been informed that lots of Sega games can be found there (bootlegs ofcourse). She promised me to buy some if I wrote a list of titles to look for. I don't really know what I should ask for, so I ask you, fellow Sega-16 forum members! I just wanted to add some rare hacked bootlegs to my collection, since I probably never will get them in any other way. I will write a big feature with pics about it when she get's back. Here's what I have thought about so far:

Bao Xiao San Guo
Barver Battle Saga: Tai Kong Zhan Shi (The Space Soldier) X
Conquering the World 3/Destiny of an Emperor 3
Duke Nukem X
Fengshen Yingjiechuan Heroic Legends of Sealing Gods X
Gang Du Shao Nian/Traysia
King of Fighters 98/99/2000 X
Rock Man X3 X
Shui Hu Feng Yun Zhuan X
Sonic Jam 6 X
Soul Blade X
Super Bubble Bobble X
Super Donkey Kong 99/Super King Kong 99 X
Super Mario World/98/Bros X
Tekken Special
Tetris X
Tiger Hunter Hero Novel
Top Fighter 2000 Mk VIII
Tun Shi Tian Di III
Virtua Fighter 2 vs Tekken 2 X
Wai Xing Zhan Shi/Phantasy Star IV (NES)
Wu Kong Wai Zhuan
Xin Qi Gai Wang Zi
Yang Jia Jiang/Yang Warrior Family X
Ya Se Chuan Shuo
Yu Yu Hakusho Sunset Fighters/Makyo Toitsusen X

X = I have the box art.

So come with some suggestions of hacked bootlegged games you know exist down there :).

We need pictures! This would make an awesome Genesis Around the World feature!

Super Donkey Kong 99 / Super King Kong 99!

King of Fighters!

Barver Battle Saga: The Space Fighter!

Fengshen Yingjiechuan (granted, she probably won´t be able to read the name...)

Tiger Hunter Hero Novel (same problem)

Megaman X / Rockman X!

Super Mario World!

Sonic Jam 6!

Virtua Fighter vs Taken 2

You should check the old Genesis Collective, there you can find cover scans and info on some of those too! If they are cheap you should tell her to get more than one copie if available, so you can sell them at a fair price to your beloved Sega-16-pals...especially the German Sega-16-pals, hehehehe...

And since you´re a Phantasy Star-fan it might be interesting to know that there is an illegal conversion of Phantasy Star IV for the NES too...

Thanks a lot, 108 Stars! Is there anything in particular you'd like? Is it really spelled "Taken 2"? I think the Thai folks will probably understand if she just can spell the names of the games. I've tried the pirate Phantasy Star IV, it's called Wai Xing Zhan Shi and is horrible. Worth a buy anyway!

The box says "Virtua Fighter 2 vs Tekken 2", in-game it´s "V.R.Fighter vs Taken 2".
I´d be happy with any cool bootleg myself...I´ve even tried ebay Taiwan, but unfortunately Babelfish fails miserably with that website.
Oh, and another extremely bad pirate comes to mind just now: Soul Blade for Mega Drive!
If it comes to playability I´d really recommend Donkey Kong, not only are the ripped graphics of DK Country pretty good and smooth, but also the playability is surprisingly good for a pirate.
I could imagine that maybe the folks there have copied the Mega Drive Duke Nukem from TecToy...if so, it might be worth it too, since the brazilian original is hard to come by.
Too bad CMA Death Adder doesn´t visit the forums more often, I would guess he´s a living, walking and talking encyclopedia of pirate games and consoles.

I've tried some ROMs and the best IMO was Mega Man X3. I'll try to get in contact with CMA Death Adder via PM.

Yeah, Mega Man X3 was pretty good, for a moment I was thinking it was an official release. Super Sonic Jam 6 is very playable, it´s basically the SNES-version of Super Mario Bros 1 with a Sonic sprite.
Tiger Hunter Hero Novel, Barver Battle Saga and Fengshen Yingwhatever are probably good too (especially graphically they look much better than Shining Force), but they´re RPGs, so they are a little hard to play

Another game: Shui Hu Feng Yun Zhuan
http://www.illusionware.it/megadrive/HK-SHUI%20HU%20FENG%20YUN%20ZHUAN.htm
We spoke about it on the forum a few weeks ago, it was some new found ROM.
A sidescroll-Beat´em up with a chinese medieval setting and some cool graphics, really fun.

Yang Jia Jiang/Yang Warrior Family
http://www.illusionware.it/library-frame.htmAnother chinese sidescroller.

And there is Mortal Kombat 5: Sub Zero, MK transformed into a really bad sidescroller

Street Fighter II Turbo: Looks like SF, plays like SF.

Pocket Monsters 1 & 2: Jump´n Runs featuring Pikachu. I only once managed to play the second part, but ever since the game crashes right after the title-screen.

And I think Super Bubble Bobble is a pirate too...

Shadow the Hedgehog, but this might not be a pirate but a simple hack.

Command and Conquer looks really great, but it´s almost unplayable and it´s not so sure if it´s a hack, a beta or a pirate.

And my personal favourite  Hot Chicks 32X is probably just a public domain thing.

Now that´s really all I can think of...so good luck to your mom!

You should contact CMA Death Adder via e-mail rather than PM. He´s really fast at responding to e-mails.

I'd be interested in "extra" copies as well :) if available

tip; browse ebay taiwan and yahoo auctions taiwan etc, Ive seen many of the games there and with pics, that you can print out and send with her... should be easier for her just to show those than trying to explain what she's looking for ;)

edit: guardiana has pics as well,

Wow, I did not know that Guardiana had those covers! They even have the original Tetris cover...! However, it might really be a good idea to print a few pages with the covers for your mother, maybe she can show them to whoever sells games and he can tell instantly if he has it available or not...

And please don´t forget to add Yang Jia Jiang/Yang Warrior Family to your list, it´s a decent game.

A Tekken game is definately available too. You could tell her that obviously non-Sega titles such as Tekken, Mario, Final Fantasy or the likes, I mean popular franchises, are a sure thing to buy, since we do not know all the pirates available. I guess titles may vary like with Donkey Kong and King Kong.

I wish you (and her) the best of luck and a nice holiday for your mom, besides video game hunting, of course. If she succeeds and you can part with any of the items she brings, I´d be very happy!:D

kallbrand: I tried eBay Taiwan and it didn't work out well. But the glorious Guardiana gave me some results of pirate box arts. I will print them out along with the names of the games so my mother knows what to look for. I need to know what game you'd like the most.
By the way: I like your Mega Drive site! It's very personal. Update it with more comments :).

108 Stars: Thanks. I need to know what game you'd like the most.

I guess my favourite would be Shui Hu Feng Yun Zhuan, because it plays so well, but it is such a hard choice. If it is not available, Tiger Hunter Hero Novel, Tetris, Donkey Kong....damn, any of those games on your list would be great!

I can´t attach the images, but here are the box scans for a few titles missing from Guardiana!

Genesis Collective images doesn't work in Internet Explorer nor Mozilla Firefox for me. I have a list of 25 games now, with 11 box arts.

Wow, I got absolutely nowhere when I tried to figure out things on ebay Taiwan...

Do you have any idea what those prices are in € or $?

I´m sure if they put in English text into their auctions those sellers would get quite a fortune!

I thought I had the most of it, but now you put me into a lot of work, kallbrand! I'll deal with it tomorrow, since my work day is short then. Been working 11 hours today, I'm so exhausted.

@ 108 stars

well xe.com/ucc lists taiwan currency as "taiwan new dollars", and 1 eur = about 43 twd right now

the auctions I linked are all pretty much 200-400 with some exceptions and that would make most of the games just a few euros each...

yeah its too bad no one seems to be selling internationally :(

@ zebbe

hehe sorry, just trying to help.. try to take it easy.

best of wishes for you and your mom from me as well btw, hope she has a great holiday, and thank her in advance

dont make her look for games too hard, especially extra ones for us, after all she's your mom..

merry christmas everyone too :)

kallbrand: No prob, you've been a great help!

I've printed out a name list of ~30 games and ~20 box arts. My mom said she'd buy as many as possible and will get help from my halfbrother's mother who's been there before and saw games then. She'll bring my digital camera and take lots of pics, and I'll keep contact with her through mail. I promise to sell you guys at least one game (let's just hope she brings home three or more games ;)) since you've been a great help. Everything will be just great, I know it! She'll taking the plane in a few hours, so I'll write again in this thread maybe as soon as in a few days, we'll see.

God Jul! :)

My mother came home this morning. She looked everywhere, at gazillions of places, asking if they had Mega Drive games or where to look. She said she's done everything she could. All they said was she was "five years too late", "those games are too old", "never heard of 'em" etc. So she didn't bring a single game home :(.

I must say I am really disappointed, but I shouldn't be when she did what she could do. I can just hope my halfbrother's mother returns to Brazil someday, there they definitely have Mega Drive games... at least now.

Never mind, we will get our hands on some nice pirates someday.

If nothing else happens we´ll have to put a remote bomb in CMA Death Adder´s body and threaten to blow him up if he doesn´t bring us lots of games from his next visit to Thailand...

I hope your mother had a nice holiday nevertheless.

Thanks guys, she sure had a good trip... and a hell to get back home. No pain, no gain :P. Again, thanks for your hard work in trying to present the bootlegs known to exist and finding the box arts for these. Someday, we'll surely have some of them in our hands... :)

kallbrand: Add a guest book for your Mega Drive page :).
