I cannot seem to start a 2 player game on Golden Axe on the Mega CD Classics disc. The second pad is plugged in and works on other games, including Streets of Rage on the same disc. Was 2 player support removed or am I doing something wrong?

No. The two-player feature is gone from the CD version. Having two players at the same time was just way too much for the Sega CD hardware to handle, so it was removed. I can't think of any other reason why they'd take it out, unless Sega just hates its customers (this also could be the case).

I am serious about both of those reasons. Unless anyone can provide something more logical as to why the two-player feature was removed.

They ran out of space when they decided to give us redbook audio "Golden Axe" tunes?

Why not redbook "Streets of Rage"???? :bang:

Couldn't they sacrifice Columns instead?

Are "Golden Axe" carts that uncommon in your neck of the woods?

I lost that 6 game cart I used to have and I saw the disc in a shop. It was one of those "Good idea at the time" things.

They can have 6 games on one cart with 2 player mode in Golden Axe, but only 5 games on one disc with no 2 player mode in Golden Axe. Amazing, isn't it?

I don't think anyone actually knows the true answer to this. It isn't like it's impossable. I know that Sega orignally planned to put 10 games in this complitation...

Oh no, man... the original disc only had 4 games on it. They didn't add Super Monaco GP until later. The Sega CD WEAKENS the Genesis system.

Personally, I think someone at Sega goofed up... but then this logic is shot down because if they did, why didn't they fix it when they changed from the 4 to 5 disc compilation?

In europe it came with 5 games, not 4. Adding Super Monaco GP later was a US-only thing.

Because SEGA hated Sega CD owners?

It's impossible to release a compilation of 10 games in Europe. It will force a multi-lingual manual fatter than the bible!

LOL!! Maybe they could have a separate case just for the manual, or maybe a separate CD or BluRay with digital manuals on it.

A companion CD with a one large PDF file.

But does one really need a manual for "Columns"?

Mortal Kombat CD has two player action.. So your reason that it's underpowered, is immediately shot down...

Not at all. Mortal Kombat is an extremely weak game to begin with. It is pathetic. I think the Z80 handles everything in that sorry game.

yea, sorta... but he does have some correct information sometimes

I mean, Joe, even if MK was Z80 based, wouldn't that give the SCD an even EXTRA chance for 2 player action?

evildragon, you take everything sooooo seriously. That is why you are so uptight and get upset easily at messageboards. Do you think I am serious about the Z80 and Mortal Kombat? Do you think I'm serious about the Sega CD not being able to handle 2 player Golden Axe? You've got to learn to be less dense. The reason for Golden Axe's lack of 2 player is unknown, and it probably never will be known.

But I am serious about Mortal Kombat being pathetic. It was a crap game the moment they started programming the arcade version. It's Pit Fighter on low grade steroids.

He does have a point that MK sucks...I feel the sequels improved a lot over the initial game.

And as an owner of the Genesis and SCD versions (SCD i got disc only for free) the game looks like total ass.

But the SCD version includes remixes of the "Mortal Kombat theme" and that is the only reason why i keep it.

LOL!! Maybe they could have a separate case just for the manual, or maybe a separate CD or BluRay with digital manuals on it.

Since PAL Mega CD games have space for two discs, I see no problem with that. They could have one disc with ten games, and one BluRay disc with the manuals!
