Sega-16 endeavors to document the entire history of the Sega Genesis and its two add-ons (Sega CD & 32X). We are a historical archive, not a media outlet, and we pride ourselves on providing accurate and factual information of all aspects of Sega's history during the 16-bit era. Anything and everything pertaining to this period (1989-1996) is valid and worth discussing, and we strive to leave no stone unturned.
I'd like to share a different opinion on this. I don't see Sega-16 only as a historical archive since the Genesis/Mega Drive lives on even to this day. Beggar Prince, The Sega Genesis Collection for PS2/PSP, Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis for GBA, Wii Virtual Console and latest the Megacart by Fonzie and his company shows how well this console lives on. The Genesis period 1989-1996 is only a part of this console's life, since it was released one year earlier in Japan and lived on to 1998 in Europe and even longer to the 2000s in Brazil, where it is even sold as new today! If the site only covered the Genesis years, it would have a lot less material. Therefor I'd say the site should say it is about from when the Mega Drive was released in 1988 in Japan, until today where its games get converted to new consoles and some new things are released, even though it's just a pinch compared to the former days of glory.
While writing this above, I came up with this idea: a few interesting features could tell us about each year of the console. One could tell about the beginning 1988-1990, when it had its releases in most markets. Then one feature per year up to 1994 or 1995 since those years were when the most things happened. Then one feature for 1996-1998 since those were the years when the support was dropped in US and EU. Then one feature which tells about how it lives on for a few years in Brazil, what get released etc. And in January we could put up a feature where we talk about what has happened this year, which was pretty much as I said above.
