Hey there guys, I've been wanting to attempt a TVout/Controller input mod to a GameGear for a while. I've got a weird motherboard in this gamegear that I have.

I posted some picture a while back. Here's some pictures of the motherboard.

Wrong forum. This should probably be in Tech Aid.

What is wrong with this GG exactly?

Just get one and put in a NEW LCD screen.

Just get one and put in a NEW LCD screen.

Which CAN be done, good for Master System games as you get fullscreen. But due to the GG's resolution you will only get 3/4 or screen with GAMEGEAR games.

Here is a link where a fellow has done it (as well as myself, scroll down to November 6 2011 post).

It explains I tried to be a smart ass and go a different route, but it back fired on me lol! Oh also it was a poor choice of screen as the battery life is worse, maybe a different type would be better (as per the Nomad screen mod).

So if you want a portable Master System (via converter) it is possibly worth it, as a portable GG, probably not.

I have to replace all the caps on it, but they're all labeled strange and in the wrong places.

I was wondering if all the chips and whatnot that I would need to solder to are all in all the same places and if it would be easier to do it with a more common revision.

When I posted this board earlier, I was told that it's an odd board revision.

I was also looking at where I could find info on how to actually do these mods, the purpose isn't really for a portable Master System, but a gamegear that outputs on the TV through AV or S-Video

Go to smspower and hunt down Viletim for a Gamegear TV out board. Then go to his website (via his link) and look at single or 2 asic board.

Not sure if he is doing these anymore but won't hurt to ask.

He is in Australia and posts worldwide.

Here is a link to the thread.

They sell cap kits for many GG revisions on Console5, including yours, and they have the the Cap placement chart on their wiki too, here the link.

Basically any GG is probably going to need to be recapped so you are not better off by buying a new one caps wise.

Ah that's good to know, last time I bought another 2 from him, 1 for the LCD modded GG and another to re-do my consolised GG (which I am still yet to do). Just checked that link out, seems he has a version 2 now!

His FM boards are fantastic too.
