Has anyone played this? I've only heard of it from this Play Magazine review.

I guess I shouldn't bother since I don't know Japanese.

I think I have an ISO. But most of the Japanese only Sega CD games are games I'd love to see translated, and I could go on for hours.

I've played it. The game has one color: sepia. Lots and lots of text. Nothing happens, ever. It was one of the first games available when the Mega-CD launched in Japan. The music is sub-Genesis quality, and the Genesis handles all of the sound except the voices, of which there are only a few.

So you're saying it's great and I should pick up a copy on eBay right away?

Only if it has a BIN of more than $100. :p

hmm, it doesn't sound like that game pushes the system to its limits, but the premise of the game sounds pretty cool, with the cruise ship and the bomb and what not. Plus, strange to see a game all in sepia.

I don't think there are any sprites... or even movement of any kind (other than windows advancing text) in the game at all.

ppbbltlb, movement! who needs movement?

Also, the game will give your Sega/Mega CD AIDS.

Well, AIDS is better than cancer, I guess.

I heard it was a very good game... Damn language barrier...

I bought a copy of ebay mostly for collecting purposes. It is supposedly a good game and supposedly you can get a translation of all the text on the net, but I havn't looked for it.

The game also comes with an audio cd which is good.

I played it for a bit today but I couldn't understand dick. Contrary to what Joe said there is a lot of spoken dialogue. In fact it seems as if all the text is spoken, so anyone who speaks Japanese but doesn't get on with kanji might be able to give this a bash and understand a bit of it. There is animation too but it's very sparse and not that great either. I love the sepia artwork though.

I wish I could understand these obscure Jpn-only MCD games :(

Actually I played it again myself a few months back and chose a different option and all of the text was spoken. Must be an on and off switch for it somewhere.

Was it still in sepia, Joe?

Interesting note about this: the lead programmer of the CPS-1 Strider, Isuke, developed this.

Bump from the dead!

In my continuing quest to collect all the Sega/Mega CD games out there, I recently got a copy of Nostalgia 1907 and decided to play around with it a bit and was pretty intrigued despite all the earlier hate in this thread. Also, I was kind of surprised that the music was being knocked so heavily by others, this game comes with a soundtrack CD that I enjoyed quite thoroughly. I didn't see a rip of the soundtrack CD anywhere so I made a quick one and threw in up on my Dropbox if anyone is interested (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2860484/Nostalgia_1907.zip).

The most information with images I could find in an online post was here: http://www.giantbomb.com/nostalgia-1907/61-37504/

But my question is that since this was one of the earliest Mega-CD games produced, does anyone else think that a fan translation might be more feasible for this than any other game?

It's probably pretty basic compared to the later games made for the system, and while someone else said that there was a script for the game dumped I am unable to locate it. Also, I've never heard of a fan translated Mega CD game and I think it would be an interesting project to undertake if it's possible.

Sounds good to me! I've been really intrigued by the Mega CD library lately and would love to see some of those games translated.

Is all the spoken dialogue paired with onscreen text (kana with occasional kanji)? I was looking at Alshark the other day, and it seemed to do that.

That's what it looks like to me, at least for some of the cutscene portions. I found a video of the opening here:

I've heard that a lot of the game is based around the context of conversation, it looks like there is some sort of game being played by them as well. A lot of the kanji also appears to be pretty simple, but fitting English text in might be an issue.

Many years ago, I played this game and actually finished it. Alot of trial and error (obviously) was done to do this all right. But here's what I had written down for disabling the bombs in the game and finishing it.

ACTION 4, PART 2

DISABLING THE BOMB

So far, I've come across 3 bombs in the game and all of them are the exact same. But I don't remember trying to diable any of the bombs early on in the game until the last part (ACTION 4, PART 2) but it's fine though because all of them are the same. If anyone who's played this game and gotten this far, consider yourself lucky to be reading this if you're the type of person who can't read Japanese and who doesn't have much patience to sit and listen to dialogue you can't understand and all that. I have 16 steps to go by in doing this. So here goes.

Remember that whenever you're in this section of the game and a message box appears with 3 different options to choose from, starting from the top down, the first option is, "unscrew", second is, "cut", and last is, "bypass".

STEP 1: First, unscrew the panel by selecting the first option in the screen.

STEP 2: Choose option 3 and bypass the wires using the longest wire (going further over the capacitor unit).

STEP 3: Choose option 2 and select the red wire to cut and cut it after a bit of dialogue.

STEP 4: Choose option 1 and select the right panel to unscrew.

STEP 5: Choose option 1 and select the screw under the motion sensor to take out.

STEP 6: Choose option 3 and bypass the blue and red wires.

STEP 7: Choose option 2 and select the top right red wire to cut.

STEP 8: Choose option 2 and select the blue wire to cut.

STEP 9: Choose option 1 and select the small right panel to unscrew.

STEP 10: Choose option 3 and bypass the red and blue wires.

STEP 11: Choose option 1 and unscrew the next panel (the only panel with a screw to the far left).

STEP 12: Choose option 2 and cut the blue wire in the left panel.

STEP 13: Choose option 2 again and cut the red wire in the same panel.

STEP 14: Choose option 1 and unscrew the panel

STEP 15: Choose option 1 again and unscrew the small right panel.

STEP 16: Choose option 2 and cut the blue wire.

BOMB DISABLED!!!

After that, there will be a few cinema scenes and a small part to which you must act upon another character. I had chosen the middle choice out of the 3 and it worked. Now you can sit back and enjoy the ending! Good luck and I hope this helps anyone out!
