I'm looking to modify my Genesis so that it can output component for the best picture quality (hopefully).... Is there a way to do this, or is there someone here that knows how to do this modification? Oh, and one more thing, in everyones opinion, what would be the best tv to use for the best picture quality? Maybe some of you have had different tv's and had various experience with them.

All in all, i just want to get the absolute best picture from my Genesis and i read this:

http://www.sega-16.com/Seeing%20is%20Believing-%20Video%20Connections.php

I've decided that component is the best and that's what i want haha!

Even better........... if anyone knows where i can get a tv here in the US that has a scart connector on it that would be awesome. That way all i would need to get is a single cable and not have to worry about any modification at all and get the absolute best RGB there is.

thanks for any help on this!

It tells you in the article... a RGB to YUV (component) transcoder and a SCART cable.

No problem. It is expensive, but worth it.

I found one..... is this what i need? Here is the description:

"This amazing NEW Scart to Component Video Converter / Adaptor is specifically designed to upgrade RGB video signal output from DVD players, Freeview, Sky or Sky+ set-top boxes to Component Video.

It works by taking the 'RGB' scart video signal output from these devices and converting it into high quality 'Y/U/V' component video signal. This can then be used to take advantage of the Component Video inputs on your TV, plasma, LCD or Projector.

Simply plug a RGB scart signal into one end (from your DVD player or digital set-top box) and out comes super high quality component (Y, U, V) signals at the other end -- ready to be connected to a Plasma, LCD or Projector.

This Scart to Component Video adaptor operates in PAL, PAL M, PAL N, NTSDC, NTSC 4.43 and SECAM."

I wonder if it's a quality product??

OK, I bought the one he sells, and it is NOT the one pictured. Same thing in nature, but the quality is fine. It looks like this:

You'll need a AC Adaptor... go to Radio Shack. However, I went to Biglots and bought a universal AC adaptor for $4.99 and it was made by Triquest.

My SCART cable is crap at times, but the transcoder is fine. If you use a Model 1 Genesis, just run the audio out of the headphone jack. A Model 2... well you'll need a Sega CD 2 (WILL NOT work with a Model 1 Sega CD, I tried)

So if i were to go with that one, it's not the same one pictured but the quality is still great and it will work on my ntsc tv?

Just as long as you get a good scart cable. My cable is fine, except if you want to use it with a Model 1 Genesis... with the 32X conversion cable, the picture goes nuts.

1) Works with Model 1 Genesis with Scart cable (and should work with Sega Master System also)

2) Will work on Model 1 Genesis with 32x attached, but a different
Scart cable is needed since the genesis and 32x have different sized
output holes

right?

i believe i have a complete understanding of everything i need. Thanks for your help and if i do buy a converter from that guy i'll let you know how well it works for me.

I am not completely trusting that transcoder. It has to be the cause of the picture bounce when not using a 32X. You'll pay twice as much plus more shipping due to it being located out of the country, but try to get the one pictured in the eBay ad... from a different seller.

It works with a Genesis 2. But the Conversion cable isn't the strongest cable in the world. I wiggled the cable by accident once, when using a Genesis 2 and the image got wonky then.

I'm going to be buying a Model 1 SCART cable anyway just to check...

You shouldn't need a conversion cable for a Genesis 2 and the SCART cable that you have.

When I want to use it with a Model 1 it goes to hell.

A Model 2 Genesis or a 32X... It's fine, but I can tell you the conversion cable isn't as "snug" as the Model 2's or 32X's AV socket. At some point I was going to buy a MD1 SCART Cable, so I'm not too worried. :D

I'm lucky to be in an area where scart is readily available. I bought a cable on ebay yesterday, just awaiting delivery.
