Hello every one...I have a question over the weekend i found a brand new jvc system in its original package...the thing is the outer box which is in perfect shape is red..... not the blue one i see everywhere...Can some one tell me the differences in the two systems if they are different...i remember reading somewhere that jvc re released a cheaper version of the the jvc system...which i think could be the one in the red box....System works perfect Came with two new games and the karaoke disk.. I received it at a local garage sale...and purchase it for 45 dollars...So please let me know what you guys think...... thanks Paul:?: :?:

I think i'm gonna cry.

Be nice, he's new.

The JVC system released in the US was called the X'Eye, right? I don't see why they should be different based on the colour of the box. If I recall rightly, the Wondermega - released across Japan and a smaller amount across Europe - had two versions with different jacks on the back for things like MIDI input.

Huh?

I'm just jealous.

I got an X'Eye for $30 at my local Play N Trade. It was a little dusty/dirty when i got it, but a few cotton balls, rubbing alcohol, and Q-Tips did the trick!! It looks and plays as if it were a brand new system!!

The Wondermega also had S-video built in, at least the first unit did (wasn't there a revision of the Wondermega that eventually came out in Japan?). They took the s-video out of the X'Eye because they were stupid enough to call it the "X'Eye" and keeping s-video would have been intelligent so they could not have that.

Hmm, I don't know. All I know is that I got one for cheap, and they're pretty hard to come by, so I'm happy!! :) They also had a CDX at my local Play N Trade for about the same price that I got the X'Eye ($30), BUT the Sega CD part doesn't work at all, and the unit itself was all scratched up. Sucks cuz I wanted that too :'(

Did a quick search and this is what I found....by the way, the 1st model looks sweet. But I have an X'Eye, which looks kinda plain and kinda ugly to me, but whatever.

In my personal experience working with several JVC X'eye systems, I've seen the following differences:

a) Early revisions doesn't seem to have the built-in 9 mini pin din AV port connector (Sega Genesis 2 type Av connector, needed to connect the 32X system as well)...

b) A Revision missing the AV RCA jack connectors

c)And finally, the most common revision with both of the built-in AV outputs.....

Is your X'eye (red box) missing any of these?

Question for you ooXxXoo, since you seem to have experience with these systems. Do WonderMega games (PAL or NTSC-J) work on an American X'Eye?? I really want to play Wonder Dog, but I need to know this first before I actually get the game someday and find out I spent my money for nothing!! Thanks.

I've never played or personally seen a Wondermega system, but most likely they are not compatible with each other, just like the Sega Cd/Megadrive Cd systems....Since they probably have their own BIOS according to their respective regions...

Japanese or PAL Cd games are not compatible with the JVC X'eye cd side or NTSC Sega Cd system...

Aww that sucks. Thanks a lot. So the only option would be to have my system modded, correct? I don't trust that kind of stuff...

The US version of Wonder Dog will work with your X'Eye. You'll never believe this, but it will work with non-Wondermega systems as well such as the Sega CD. Freakin' CrAzY world we live in!!!

I'd like to see a picture of the red box if you get the chance to take one and post it.

LOL, ya know, as soon as I posted my last reply, I thought, "man, I should've checked to see if there was a US version of Wonder Dog." And then out of nowhere, you come and it's like you read my mind!! Freakin' CrAzY world we live in!!! (Thanks by the way, lol).

I can't verify this since I don't have any Japanese games, but supposedly some Japanese games work in it. The newer ones that have software region lockouts won't work, but the games that just won't fit because of the cart slot will. I would imagine pal stuff wouldn't work though.

The X'Eye is my Genesis of choice. Well done on your purchase, Ceibant. I paid $30 for mine too :) The X'Eye is much better than the CDX, btw.

I think he was talking about the compatibility of the cd side of the X'eye....The cartridge side can be definitely changed for sure, to different region modes....

Well, the CD Bios is a US bios, so you would be out of luck. Buy a Megacart :)

A Megacart, hmm, I'll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion. I still would like to get a CDX though. I've ALWAYS wanted one...sigh...

CDX's are cool, I must admit. Part of me wishes I hadn't sold mine, but I needed some cash really badly and either the CDX or the X'Eye had to go.

Here's a couple of pics. of mine. You can see more of it on Amazon's website as I posted more there. Mine was made in June of 1994, it's no differant than my other made in Sept. of '94 except that the A/V out is printed on the back instead of a sticker. Internally they are the same.

Here's the only difference I've seen. The top left was made in Sept. the rest were made in June of 1994. The one from sept. has "A/V out" molded into the plastic. The other three either have a sticker or it's printed on it.

why red?

I've never even seen the other design.

TBH, until you started this thread, I thought this was the only design. What do the others look like?

this pic is missing the X'Eye revision that doesn't have the 9 mini pin din AV port at all ( I have one, that probably explains the sticker revs.)...
