I was playing hexen on saturn and when I go to save the game it says "you need a cartridge ram to save a hexen game". My understanding is that the action replay plus is itself a cartridge ram.

The cr2032 battery is dead however, but I thought this only effected the console's internal memory and nothing else. Any help is appreciated.

From an 4-1 FAQ:

*********************
III. SAVING QUESTIONS
*********************

3.1 Why doesn't the cart support direct save?
---------------------------------------------

If the cart had direct save, the Saturn would have recognised it as simply a
memory cart and nothing more, meaning the 4in1 softwar wouldn't have booted.
There was no other way around it. The only way to use the saves is to copy the
save to the internal memory while using it, and copy it back to the cart after.

Ah, so this means for games that require direct saves I need a regular memory cart? Thanks das, if that is infact you.

Das? Alright! I bet I even know that it stands for David A. Steyer!

Close, but no cigar.

I came up with the nickname "das" well over 10 years ago. I took the first two letters of my name. DAvid and the first letter of my last name Steyer. "das" happens to be "the" in german. And I am half German, ironically enough.

My middle name is John, and that's because I am named after my grandpa. So it's David J. Steyer. Err... my mom's stepdad, but he's my grandpa by default (my mom's real dad has been deceased for many years now.)

The only reason I call my self "David J." is because, it looks better than "David S." and "David J." is actually a nickname for me. My dad is also named David (David R. Steyer) so people sometimes ask for "David R." or "David J."

Close, but no cigar.
Good, I wouldn't want a cigar. The smell is disgusting!
