View Full Version : So, how'd you first find Sega-16?

Melf

I figured it'd be interesting to know how everyone found the site/forum. Were you referred, click on a link or sig, or just stumble upon it by accident? Tell us your stories!

I found Sega-16 via a banner on someone's sig, probably yours Melf, over at Bahn's Got-next forums, and I only found Got-next because Nintendo fanboys were getting ragged on over at GAF, which doesn't happen enough, and someone said if anyone REALLY wanted to see N-fanboys get the thrashing they deserved to checkout Got-next's forums and linked to the place.

A pretty round about way to find Sega-16 but I'm glad I did.

Someone's (yours?) sig from SegaXtreme. I don't go there anymore.

That's hilarious -- I'd love to read that thread. No one gets ragged on our on forums, especially since the activity is very mellow and laid back, much like here. It's all good because both of our forum destinations are still new to gamers and some are bound to remain at the more "popular" hotspots like GAF, TNL, IGN, to name a few.

I did a search on Google for "Genesis fan site" or something when I just started to get new Genesis games (later collect), months later, I gained the courage to write a review for Mega Bomberman, and after that I just couldn't stop coming here, and that's the end of that chapter. Next chapter, Melf gives his site to me!

j/k

I could never take care of this site, plus it's in great hands, and I do think he is doing a great job at that!

I found it on google some time after the Genesis Collective forums stoped working. I had my own Genesis site for a few months on a free server before I came here. Around the time that the server stoped working I found this place.

I'm not sure, but I think it was after I'd just bought a Mega Drive off eBay and was feeling nostalgic, came across the site looking up reviews for a game. This is probably one of my favourite websites now.

I can't really remember how I found Sega 16, but I can tell you when it happened: Sometime in mid May (last month). My earliest memory of this place is checking on it from my girlfriend's grandmother's house and reading the Doom for Genesis article that, ironically, has since been removed. I was pleased to see that the site was updated so diligently, and I wound up writing a review for it. And another. And a few more that haven't been posted yet. And more I have yet to send in...

A fun place with nice people who humor me and read my long Sega rants. What's not to love?

I don't know how I find this site, but I know I want to do reviews of forgotten games (mostly shmup) that the general public don't know about. ;)

I saw the site in Melf's .sig over at shmups.com, though what really made me visit was his listed occupation in his profile. :p Given the quality of most fan sites, the thought of an English professor running one made curious. Before this I use to love the Genesis Collective, which wasn't nearly as well structured and written as Sega-16 but still a very good source of information.

I was looking for information on Genesis-RPGs, a genre that was not very interesting to me when I originally bought Genny-games since not a single RPG was ever translated into German in those days.
Doing so I stumbled across an article about Beggar Prince. I got really excited and began looking for more info on the game. Googling for Beggar Prince I eventually dug out Sega-16 and fell in love immediately.
Now I´m finally home...

I was looking for retro game boards for possible help on my Sega CD not-working problem. I've stumbled upon this site a few times over the last year, but it wasn't until recently when I was looking for a review for "Revengers of Vengence" on the sega cd, that I found this site again. (and the review on here for that game was perfect, exactly my same thoughts on that game).

so yup, found it through google typing like revengers of vengence review :D

After my hardrive crashed, I lost address to Sega-Spetsnaz (couldn't remember the full name) so I started doing searches and Sega-16 popped up. I mistkook it for the same place but found out, it was in fact a totally different area. But I figured some of my buddies at SS probably hung out here, too. Also figured I'd make some new friends here. Love the layout of the place.

I'm not sure if I've posted here or not, but I found sega-16.com on gamefaqs.com. A group of people there were discussing the idea of creating a NES website. Someone mentioned that the site should be modeled after sega-16.com. I checked this site out, and I haven't left since :)

I can't be the only one, when they first heard of the site, had LOW expectations?

Now, I am rather seasoned on the interweb's (1997) and I have seen a whole shedload of fansites since then, and I had almost always been let down. I never expect much, but I do expect better than www.gameamazon.com

But when I visited the site, and saw the forums, I saw some neat stuff.

The end.

Was intending on buying a big shipment of games but didn't know where to turn for proper reviews. Fair enough the reviews on gamefaqs are plentiful but they mostly consist of normal gamers who toss out a completely biased view, slating games ridiculously over the top.

So I attempted to find a site that was not redundant and dedicated to the genesis/megadrive. The official sega site doesn't even acknowledge its glorius past, wikipedia was ok but again no reviews.

So eventually up on a google search popped sega-16 the only true md/gen site on the whole net (well the only on worth going near anyway) and by god was it worth the wait!

Last year, amid a Garage/Yard sale craze - realizing I could now purchase all the game systems I never had.

I was probably searching for some info on the Sega CD or just retro games in general. However it happened, it certainly was helpful. Glad the buying bug hasn't bitten me again cause all I did was fawn over the stuff for a couple of weeks, hook it up and I haven't touched it much since. I usually emulate (for shame!) or play the newer consoles.

Actually I remember having found this site a long time ago when I was more active on the internet, but I had forgotten about it and stumbled on it again recently, it was while looking for a solution to one of Beggar Prince's parts. I first stumbled upon this site via Wikipedia. Browsed a bit around, thought it was nice, then forgot about it...

Then, some time later, I was looking for a list of games I could play on my Nomad, did a little google-search, and ended up here again. And I thought "Wait a minute, you KNOW that one..."

Since then I'm a regular reader, and was lurking around in the forums until I finally decided to join up ;-)

As I just wrote in my first post here, I was trying to find pictures of Sagaia. Which might be, by all means, my favorite Genesis game.

Researching how to flash the 1.00 bios to the SEGA CD and found this website along with some others. However when BPrince came out I was reading it. So it would have to be the MD thingy that allows you to play games from your computer.

I also ran into it way way back by accident from the people on oh so uptight Assembler/Japan-games who kept on refering to it.

Though he's banned, I'd like to state this.

The BIOS on Sega CD can NOT be flashed! You can only change it via a flash cart like MegaCart. The chip in the Sega CD is a ROM.
