Was there ever plans for an RPG on the 32X, because I think it would be possible to port the likes of Chrono Trigger! Would you want an RPG on the 32X anyways?

It would certainly be pretty

They were better meant for the Mega CD.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were some plans. I think anytime a new system is released game publishers start planning what titles they're going to develop for it. Sega was still pretty much in the game when the 32 X came out and still had a decent lineup of third party publishers so I would imagine at least one of them had an idea for an RPG. But I think that the 32 X tanked so quickly that developers just gave up and started thinking about the PSX and Saturn.

...that or the fact that the 32X was a SoA creation making the RPG's of the time (aka JRPGs) an improbability for the 32X.

That's a good point. Hadn't thought of that.

Some people count Romance of the Three Kingdoms as an RPG, and a port of the fourth was released for 32x in Japan.

Other than that, I really can't imagine an RPG being planned for 32x.

IF that is true, can Melf or anyone else confirm this? It isn't on his master list. Should it be?

It is too in the master list.

Why bother?

Not only was the 32X doomed from the start, but the system freezes easily. Knowing SoA they'd make a RPG without battery save, or a buggy password system, and here goes hours wasted because those damned white cords became loose.

With all the wires, its alot to go wrong. Mine never freezes, but at times I've had Genesis games come in B&W when played through the 32X. It was just a bad connection.

Idea.

CD's are cheaper (and much easier) to produce than Carts. Homebrew games, with two discs, (like som eof the old 32x games) one for regular segacd and the other with the 32x enhanced version =)

Now making a game, is the hard part.

yeah well it would without a doubt would have been released in the US if it were not for bernie stolar saying "People in the US will not understand the full concept of RPG's" Thats why there were so many more RPG's in Japan =(

I never had any trouble with the ribbon cables on my 32x. (but I bought mine new) I will admit I did have trouble with the thing freezing the first few days but then I guess it sort of built up an imunity (as so to speak) :)

Just a quick questions. Has anybody actually seen Romance of the Three Kingdoms? I have yet to find a single Sega 32X copy of it, anywhere. I know it was only supposedly released in Japan, but still doesn't explain how nobody seems to have it.

It was only released in Japan. As for it being rare, it isn't too rare there from what I heard a few years ago. But why bother? The game is pretty text heavy and you can get it in English on the Saturn.

I have it on Saturn - in English mind you. Great game but it takes up a lot of memory space if you get it on that system, so make sure you have a ram cart.

I don't care if I can read it or not, I just want it to complete my collection of 32x crap. :D

Well, check Yahoo Auctions Japan. You might need a courier service like Rinkya.

I've seen a few copies of San Goku Shi IV sell over the course of 2009 on eBay, usually for over $100. Mind you they were all at least complete (even sealed?).

Hmm, maybe the game has become more popular or well known, or maybe my information was incorrect (most likely) but that's good to see it has been appearing on eBay.

I wish it was released in the US. Awesome game.

I'd like to see a translation of the 32X R3KIV. I'm sure no one would ever make one, but it would be cool to see it running on real hardware and actually be able to play it.

It'd be cool if someone could dump the script from the SNES, PS1, Saturn, PC version and put it in the 32X one. :D
