I've seen two copies of Daze Before Christmas in the last month go for quite a lot. The first sold for $150 AUS and the 2nd for $139.50 AUS on eBay.
Is the game that rare and worth that much? That must be the most expensive PAL game around.

It's a fun game to play that's for sure.

I think Alien Solider is pretty damn expensive, but it's not that freaking rare, the PAL version anyway.

Was this game released in America(I'm too lazy to look it up)?

nope. pal only ... if that question was in relation to Daze.

Daze Before Christmas was only released in Australia. It often fetches hefty prices and $150AU is not uncommon. I intend to pick myself up a copy when I get that sort of spare cash (I have been wanting it for a good few years now).

Man, Australia mustīve been an important market for Sega.
I donīt give a damn about this game, but I would love Fatal Fury 2 PAL.

why pal?
Because thanks to Sega there are already two different styles of PAL-covers around. If I buy US-games with another two different case-designs my collection will start to look really chaotic. So I only buy US or japanese games if they are not (or rarely) available in PAL.
Besides, I have no overview over which games came in plastic cases and which in cardboard boxes. A bad photo on eBay, a misunderstood description and tadaa, I have a damn cardboard box-game in the mailbox! No way!

You mean Ozisoft as they sold all of Sega's games there. They suck, BTW.

Actually you could say there are 3 types of PAL case designs. The initial black with the grid, the one with the blue and the newer mega drive font, and the platinum and gold versions as a 3rd case design :D
I initially started collecting PAL (as I'm from Australia), but switched to collecting US versions, when I realised pal 50Hz sucked so much. I'm even thinking of buying NTSC versions of my pal games, just to play them how they were meant to be. Too bad the red genesis boxes (plastic and cardboard) look so crap. At least Ozisoft never went for cardboard! I think the blue mega drive cases look the best. Pity about the non-colour manuals in Australia though.

Iīm not sure if the Platinum-/Gold-Versions were available here. Iīve only once seen one on eBay, Shinobi III. Come to think of it, we had an ugly brown classics design for a few oldies too.

I totally agree. It is the same for me when buying games. But I by PAL games if I'm sure they aren't locked out or work well in 60 Hz after switching to it.

I think the black & gold cases are exclusive to Australia as the SEGA CLASSICS / SEGA PLATINUM range, whereas Europe only got the black grid & blue margin design.
I think the Mega-CD range gets the prize for a logo change three times though: Road Avenger's got the Model 1 logo, Sonic CD has the Model 2 logo, and Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side has a logo similar to the blue case Mega Drive design.
Also, the only game I have to switch into NTSC mode (besides imports and PAL-optimised games, usually later games and region-locked) is Toejam & Earl, the music sounds off otherwise. Other than that, I usually stick with PAL output. Call me crazy, but :|

Can Daze before Christmas be played in a regular Genesis system? If not.. how could I play it?

It will work, but run a little bit too fast due to the 50/60Hz difference.

Does this make it unplayable? I have read where others on here have enjoyed playing it... were they all from the UK or Australia?

You could try it in an emulator like Kega Fusion or Gens before buying it. Just set the region to US and load the game. It should be perfectly playable.

Why have I not bought this bloody game yet? Every year I say "Hmmm, I'm going to buy Daze Before Christmas this year" and I still haven't. I bring great shame upon myself. :(

Excellent, I shall have a bid, however, I get the feeling my Paypal funds will not be sufficiant (or is it spelt sufficient?) to win it. Lousy debts.

If it's like other PAL games I've experienced, it won't play on a North American Genesis at all. It will boot but the screen will be snowy and will rapidly scroll across the screen. Since the game was only released in a PAL region, I don't know that the game will include a 60mhz output option.

Theres plenty of PAL games that play just fine in 60hz (and I'm pretty sure that includes Daze Before Xmas). Usually if they don't work its because of the consoles region detection not letting the game start, not because the game was coded for PAL50 screen height or speed.

Okay, I guess I've run into some of those games which only run at 50 because even when bypassing the region switch (via a Game Genie or similar device) I still couldn't get them to run properly on my NTSC machine. Hopefully that's not the cast on Daze.

Hi,
omg - my first post :D I am reading here quite for awhile, but now it is time to also post stuff.
let me beginn with a question: does anybody know if the SNES Version is as expensive as the genesis version? I ve been looking for a while for that game, but because of the price (gen. version), I never bought it.
Mr Smith

Mint condition, rare, SNES games have a habbit of being much more expensive than their Mega Drive counterparts. That being said, I really have no idea, but if its as elusive as the Mega Drive version then I will guess at it being more costly.
