Please list what you consider must have Japan only Mega CD titles. I have only a couple, and they are not too great.
Thanks!

If you're into Sonic the Hedgehog, you should consider picking up a Japanese Sonic CD. Though the game is the same as the US one (will even use the same save), all the music is different and it makes the whole thing a very different experience. Just doing a music swap or hacking up the PS2 collection will get you some of it but the videos will still have the US music and it's amazing how much better the original Japanese music goes with them.

I you liked Snatcher or Shining Force, get Shadowrun.

If you're into boobies, you should consider picking up a Japanese Final Fight CD. Though the game is the same as the US one (will even use the same save... maybe), all the chicks are showing their knockers and it makes the whole thing a very different experience.

The PAL versionalso has the Japanese soundtrack.

good luck running that on a US/JAP console though.. the videos would most likely lose sync...

Resurrecting this thread because I'm still denied new post access.

So Shadowrun is the only non-US Sega Cd game that is really good? Are there any other JAP-only titles that are enjoyable and have great graphics etc?

Most Japan-only Mega CD games are either crap (Earnest Evans with redbook audio, whoop-de-fucking-do), or RPGs (pointless for those of us not fluent in Japanese). Most stuff was released in the US; I haven't found any really worthwhile imports. Maybe a couple of European imports, but not any Japanese ones.

there are a couple of japanese imports worth getting if you can find them cheap and those 2 would be:

devastator (part side scrolling robot shooter and part platformer)

anet futatabi (2d beat em up)

both of those are uncommon titles but not too expensive, and decent games.

Cool, I thought I remembered hearing there was a pretty decent platformer for jp cd but couldn't recall the name.

There is very little info out there (that I can find) on these games: what about aisle lord, fhey arena, yumimi mix, 3x3 eyes, urusei yatsura? Are they all untranslated rpgs or something?

I only have a rom Captain Tsubasa and it's ok I guess.

BTW Ninja Warriors looks like shit, anybody play it? Death bringer or night striker?

It's pretty bad, as in, I wouldn't buy it and will never touch the burn again. The one for Saturn is pretty solid, but steer clear of the SCD one.

I used to have Ninja Warriors.
Felt it was the biggest waste of $50 in my life.

Is Star Blade any good?

No. I remember being blown away by the arcade version but the SCD one wasn't even close. The sound effects were too compressed (think about how the SF2CE voices turned out) and they had to change some of the solid polys to wireframe. It doesn't have even remotely the same impact as the original.

The background polygons in Star Blade are all FMV, like Sylpheed. Anything that is not FMV is wireframe (in the arcade it was all polygons). The sounds effects are compressed, yes, but really only in dynamic range. They sound flat. They don't sound rough and abrasive like the Genesis SF2 voices. Oh, and there isn't any music at all.

Aisle Lord=first person dungeon crawler. Those games already tend to suck, and this one's in Japanese. Although you probably wouldn't be missing much story or whatever, and it should be easy enough to play anyway. Not that you'd want to. Oh, also, it's a compilation of three titles I believe, unless I'm getting it confused with another japanese mega cd dungeon crawler, so that means MORE SCROLLING SLOWLY THROUGH IDENTICAL FIRST PERSON DUNGEONS FOR YOUR BUCKS.

Death Bringer=pretty sure it's the same thing, despite the badass title

Fhey Area=traditional RPG that looks really nice (I don't mean graphically, although it's not bad, but as a game). The battle system is pretty typical but it's presented in an original way. That said, it's in Japanese, so yeah, whatever. I wish someone would do Mega CD fan translations.

3X3 Eyes=RPG too. Looks pretty cool, though RPGs based off anime series tend to suck the way action titles based off american movies usually do. I've come across an exception or two though. I know I ripped one of the song cause it had some murderous saxophone in it, but of course none of it matters since it's a RPG in a language you (and I) don't understand.
