There is a new genesis fan site being made right now. www.sega16bit.com

I've always considered the Games Database of Sega8bit to be superior to the Master List of this site (the one on Guardiana is better too, but it's French), and now they're making a 16bit one. I like the cool grid design. I think it would be the best if they joined forces with this site though.

I've always enjoyed sega8bit.com, but I don't see it derailing this site at all. Ken's started a great community here and hopefully sega16bit will add to it.

UPDATE: Sega-16 is already linked from the site.

It'll be interesting to watch its growth - who knows? As true fans, I don't see how any of us here at Sega-16 can be anything but thrilled at seeing a new site dedicated to what we love. It's too bad they chose something that we already have covered so well instead of, say, breaking into the Saturn, but hey.

Hey, I'm one of the guys that works on Sega8Bit and is helping to start Sega16Bit. Just want everyone to know we DO NOT consider this a competitor or anything like that, nor do we think or want it to affect this site. We decided on Sega8Bit to essentially create a sister site for members there to talk about the Megadrive and have a forum set up in the same fashion. Some people wanted a separate section for the 8Bit forum, which made no sense, so we figured what the hell and made a site that duplicates the same design for easy usage. Don't want you guys to think we're competing, this is mainly for the users on Sega8Bit.

Well, the name is a bit close to Sega-16, but it´s logical since it is Sega8Bit´s sister-site.
I like you Master System-Site, so good luck to you!

That's good to hear, since if you DID decide to compete with us, we'd have to destroy you in Mortal Combat!

(And I don't mean the game either)

I don't get this competition thing between similar websites. It's not like there's money involved. I don't think anyone runs a Sega fansite for a profit. There's room for two (or more!) 16-bit Sega fansites on the internet.

And considering how difficult, if not impossible, it would be to make a completely comprehensive website on any subject, it is best to have more that one website. The websites can fill in each other's gaps. We can be the rational numbers and they can be the irrationals, and together we can make the reals. (Or vise versa. We coule be the irrationals.)

What???!! Then why does Melf always demand half of my paycheck? Is he pulling one over on me?

Wait, wait, I can fix this.

I meant to say, "It's not like anyone except Melf makes a profit off a Sega fansite."

...that might not help any... Maybe you should hit the first flight out...

It's all about traffic and prestige. Most people have ads that keep servers and bandwidth paid for, and the more traffic they have the more they can charge, so when there's somebody else dipping into their traffic... Sparks fly.

There's just plain pride and arrogance, too.

Or Cuba.

PR is part of the U.S., noob. :p

Cuba might be a good idea though. With Fidel on his way out, it's about time someone exposed them to the power of Genesis!

As anyone who lives in a country with state-financed health care would tell you, it's overrated. No competition equals stagnation.

Heh, you took me too seriously. I'm a staunch defender of capitalism and laissez-faire government policies. And I don't consider welfare, whether domestic or international, to be either productive or within the role of the government. Federal programs like what you're referring to degrade the quality of the services, I agree.

Glad to see we're on the same side. =)

We have all the benefits, except for equal distribution of federal funding, the right to vote for president....oh, and voting representation in Congress.

That > Olympic team.

I've been to the northwest state of Spain, called Galicia. The population there generally wants an independent state free from Spain (read: Madrid), and they prefer to call themselves Galicians before Spaniards. How is the situation in Puerto Rico, are you Proud Americans™ or do you see yourselves Puerto Ricans more than that?

VinnyT

I know Puerto Rico's had vote in the past to become it's own country, but it never goes through.

PLEASE tell me you kept it complete and in mint condition. Please.

also we need a forum drinking game: take a shot if a Sega-16 thread stays on topic past page 1 :D

IHow is the situation in Puerto Rico, are you Proud Americans™ or do you see yourselves Puerto Ricans more than that?

The majority wants to remain with the U.S., but they still tend to think of themselves as Puerto Ricans first. That's a contradiction that will have to be solved before anything moves forward.

I know Puerto Rico's had vote in the past to become it's own country, but it never goes through.

We've had three plebiscites here that were meaningless, and until Congress actually decides what to do with us, none of our actions will ever have any consequences.

What an awesome quote. I have no idea who Sam Pettus is, but I think I might insist that awesome quote is added to the front page of our Mega Drive Championship website! :D

I like Melf's attitude regarding sega16bits.com

Basically, he doesn't mind. IIRC, welcomes it, in fact. It's a healthy mindset. Yes, the site URL's are similar, yes, the content looks to be a bit similar, but neither site is being paid by customers. It's all a labor of love. As great as sega-16 is, there's room for another Genesis review-type site. Besides, Sega-16 has been around for a long while now, it has nothing to worry about. It'll be a while before sega16bits gets anywhere near Sega-16 status.

I too wish it well.
