You'd think that after everything he's been through, after all his near-death experiences with dinosaurs, Dr. Alan Grant would stay as far the hell away from remote islands as possible. Apparently, he must has some deep, subconscious attraction to them, because he keeps going back for more. In Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition, the good doctor is actually trying to save the vicious reptiles from InGen thugs. The beloved raptor also makes a return, and with new graphics and equipment, it's a whole new adventure in the most dangerous place on Earth. Read our full review (http://www.sega-16.com/2007/05/jurassic-park-rampage-edition/) and grab your tranquilizer gun!

I watched my friend play this a week or so ago. It was the first time either of us had seen the game. It seemed floaty and I was blown away because the main character was shooting humans as well as dinosaurs! The other humans and dinosaurs didn't fight each other, they were all simply trying to kill you and only you. Obviously a lot of thought went into this fine game.

Better than the original, but I really hated the black lines around all the sprites.

And yes the gameplay is sloppy, but better than some of the shit I played on the NES.

Cheap deaths are lame.

Back in the day this was the only Jurassic Park game I owned and I thought it was awesome. I loved the range of weapons Grant had and the variety of the levels was nice too. The unpredictable jumping was highly annoying though, but nothing annoyed me more than getting close to the end of the Avairy only to have one of those stupid dinosaur bird things pick Grant up and take him back to the nest. :fit:

A 6 for Jurassic Park Rampage Edition?? I think the Lost World is okay, but most
people I know like JPRE the best. Just check the reviews scores at GameFaqs:

Great game that's loads of fun! - General Eric - 8/10
A sequel to the first game, it stacks up pretty well - LeQuack147 - 8/10
A Must Have Title for Genesis Owners - Ramza FFT - 9/10
An EXCELLENT game - Wild Gunman - 10/10

Also:

"I can't recall how many times I was killed by either too big of a jump or a seemingly invisible enemy."

You can't get killed by too big of a jump. That's only in the first game.

GameFaq reviews are often only written by fanboys.

6 is the correct score for this game and yes gamefaqs reviews are awful you either have some guy giving a game a 10 raving on about how much fun he had renting the game with his cousin like 5 times or some guy thrashing a game whilst firing out completely irrational reasons why, sega-16>>>>>>>>gamefaqs. and by that i mean far far.... greater.

Well I guess I was just a bit dissapointed with the low score of one of my favorite
games. And not all GameFaqs scores are like that...

But: aren't some of the reviews on this site taken (with permission) from GameFaqs
as well? For example there's Outlander... Why give the game a 9 at GameFaqs and
a 6 at Sega-16 when the review and reviewer are the same?

Same for Spider-Man versus the kingpin. Same review/reviewer, only at GameFaqs the
game gets a 10, and here it gets a 7.

Hmmm I didn't know about that, and rampage edition was a game of my neighbours when I was a child so I have a small attachment to it, but I would never have rated it as anything higher that above or around average.

As for the other game Outlander, whilst it did get a 9 on gamefaqs theres no real benchmark there as people always come out flying the flag for the game of their childhood or bashing a game where they had a bad experience, I would think that relative to the scores on sega-16 a 9 would definitely be too high.

We had a looong discussion about that, and I believe the reviewer was asked to think over his ratings again, since they were extremely generous.

I like the JP games and I think 6 is the perfect score.

I actually look for other reviews of games I review. I form opinions on games EXTREMELY quickly, and I want to make sure I'm being fair. So, I did check out the gamefaqs.com reviews on this game. What I thought was this: the people who took the time to review this game are obviously fans of it. People let fond memories get in the way of reviews. I'm a huge fan of Sonic Spinball. 90% of the world thinks it sucks, but I'd give it a nine out of ten. It's a good thing I didn't review it :)

I never played a Jurassic Park game besides Lost World before last week. I went out, bought Rampage Edition, spent a good amount of time with it, and then downloaded the original version to compare it to (illegal, I know). These were my honest feelings towards the game(s). As for this quick jump deaths, that could have been me mixing up the two games. Rampage Edition is, at times, unbelievably cheap.

I finished the game the first day I bought it and never thought it was cheap, but
that's just a matter of opinion I guess. It's not just GameFaqs though, I read
reviews in magazines (Sega Power or other British magazines and some Dutch
ones) in which it usually got an 8.

But I guess you could call me a fanboy. After playing all 3 JP games on the Mega
Drive, I liked RE the best. Because it was somewhat original and sort of a direct
sequel to the original movie (and game of course).

I also really like the levels. The cargo ship was nice, though it seems to be a more
logical level when you're the Raptor, as it's your ticket to freedom. The aviary is
nice in my opinion, though of course I let out some not-so-nice words when the
Ptero grabs me and takes me all the way back. I think I like the ruins the best,
as there is also two ways to get through this pretty big level.

I loved playing this game when I first got it. I liked the music in it too. I haven't had a desite to play again though, I tried and just wasn't as fun as the first time.

This game was alright not bad just a little more work needed to be done on it.

You know, but I enjoyed this game a lot back in the day... It was more fun and approachable to play than the prequel to it, and while I agree it wasn't a classic by any means (wasn't that difficult, graphics could have used tweaking, blah blah blah) it was still fun to pull out now and then.

My personal favorite of the JP games on the Genesis.

Also, Grant doesn't return to the island. The helicopter he escaped in (end of the 1st game) crashed back into the island. I don't recall all of it (it's in the manual) but I believe Grant saw InGen guys collecting stuff that could lead to another park. Grant got into a struggle with the chopper's pilot and he then crashed back on the island. Not a great story, but still better than having escaped and going back.

Yeah, your right about some of the collision detection problems. Other than that though, I totally disagree with you on the graphics, I think this game looks great. This is one of my many favorite Genises games. And I for one loved the level designs too.
