View Full Version : Games that should've been on the Sega CD.

There were games that were supposed to come out for it like "Captain Commando" and "Super Contra". Now those games probably would've kicked ASS on the Sega CD! But what other games should've been on there? Some titles I would've liked to see on it are:

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/644/gradiusiiks9.png

For the Life Force one, they could use FMV cutscenes from the rare Salamander anime, which was never dubbed into english (This used to be on youtube, and when I finally wanted to watch it, it wasn't there anymore!), only on here (SCD), the voices WOULD be in english instead of japanese. And Gradius II can feature a brand new animated intro with voice acting where a narrator talks about what's going on, and then after that, a scene where James Burton (who I hear is Vic Viper's pilot) is being briefed by the commander or whatever.

I would've liked to see how something like Wolfenstein 3D would've turned out on Sega CD. Being that it's powered by dual 68k's and has hardware-enabled sprite scaling and playfield rotation, I bet it could've been pretty good. Or not necessarily Wolfenstein, but any good FPS really (Battle Frenzy does not count).
Also, Shadow of the Beast 3. It sucks that it only came out on Amiga.

Yeah, Wolfenstein could've been cool. They could've also tried some ports of other Capcom arcade hits like Dynasty Wars or Area 88. Those probably would've been awesome.

Rise of the Triad (It has the same engine as Wolf 3D, just it has some enhancements)
Raptor: Call of the Shadows
... and atm I can't think of much more.

I knew I forgot something! Yeah, it would have been pretty awesome. But by time it was released in late '95, the Mega CD was dead in Japan, sans a few late '95 releases, which where FMV games like Double Switch, Fahrenheit and Surgical Strike... and non FMV games such as Shadowrun.
Damn you Sega!

The Speed Racer one would've been cool. They could use stages of driving and platforming like they did in the SNES game, and they could probably put the scaling and rotation to excellent use in the driving sequences, and it'd especially be cool with all that awesome stuff the Mach 5 can do. Maybe there can also be different kind of driving stages which aren't for races, but are like action oriented, like say, I dunno, Spy Hunter. And it could have a soundtrack by Tommy Tallarico, and it could have footage of the TV show. Including the full introduction with the theme song!

You are going to take over Sega and force them to release a region-free Sega Saturn? If so, make them also release a Power Base Converter that works through the 32X, it is on super-high demand.

See I'm still kind of confused on that. If/when they release the translation patch, are you actually gonna be able to play it on your playstation? I always kinda thought you would just have to play it on an emulator but hoped otherwise.
As for a saturn version, the people over at the policenauts site said it would be the next version after the playstation to get done. I dunno if it'll ever happen and as playing burned games on a saturn is such a pain it might not be worth their time.

Screw all that! I trade all of that to see something like Cybernator/Spriggan Mark 2/ Target Earth on the SegaCD - long game, awesome cinemas (like popful mail style), mean ol' story with mechs and stuff, in game story segments with voice acting, kick ass LMS techno sound track, and badass action and blasting.

"Thank You Dr. Thodt"
I sometimes wished I was my age now in the early 90's. I've wanted to make this game for the genny for years with a sequel based on the Sega CD. It was a side-scrolling brawler/RPG surrounding the story of this sick twisted man name Dr. Thodt who enslaved the nation in a post apocolyptic world. I'm not gonna get into depth about it... but meh.
I'm actually attempting to make the game right now, it has been altered massively and the protagonist is now a girl with a giant sword... Dr. Thodt still appears in the game

Policenauts, it was released in Japan on the Saturn. As it was released at the height of Sega of America's implodey days, the game never made it to the West, even when the lead developer - according to the legend (*spooky chord*) - offered to translate the game for free.

Is there a sega cd game with as good or better animation (excluding FMV) than the arcade enhanced 3x3Eyes?
A game i would like to see on the sega cd is super castlevania IV, im thinking of a slightly enhanced remake instead of a direct port with a more sound effects, better enemy animation, maybe slightly redone tile and sprite work, cd quality sound abviously and maybe throw in some cutscenes, huh, it sounds like i'm talking about making an entirely different game.

Probably would have happened if the same company that owned the arcade rights to the Simpsons also owned the home console rights. I don't think Konami and Acclaim would have worked well together. I guess we should blame Acclaim for preventing Konami from doing this since they only bought the home rights long before the arcade game was made.

True, but its still considered to be the "spiritual sequel" to Snatcher.
The reason why people view it as that, is all down to Wikipedia and one of the trailers saying 'The Next Generation Of Snatcher'.
Policenauts not only plays differently from Snatcher (Policenaut's point and click w/ full screen shootouts that appear rather frequently > Snatcher's text-based gameplay w/ 4x4 grid shootouts that appear far too less), but the storyline is full of originality (still full of twists, but not a blatant rip-off of ever classic science fiction movie from the 80s, it is far more original, so is the setting). Although, I admit, the visuals are really just a facelift of Snatcher (which is good).
Both Random Hajile and Napoleon make cameo appearances in the game too (one is a blink and you miss him, the other you can talk to).
A Snatcher sequel would be a dream come true, though. But with the recent press (Project 'S') which was confirmed as a series of works based around the franchise, starting off with the radio drama, before other things, we will probably see a new Snatcher game surface.

If the mega drive / mega cd were still around today as a VERY cheap alternative compared to modern consoles it would be bombarded with mobile phone ports, a port of call of duty 4 wouldn't end up like zero tolerance it would just be the port of the phone version (i'm not slagging them off either, they prove 2D lives) or in a similar style and then we could have:
project gotham racing
assassins creed
gears of war
halo 3
crysis
grand theft auto 4
The simpsons game on DS was an entirely seperate 2D platformer to the other versions and is just as good in its own right, i think.

The stock Genesis could handle a Simpson arcade port, I don't even think cart sizes would be an issue as the Genesis has more then enough spare CPU power to uncompress sprites in real time considering the arcade board that powered the Simpsons arcade game was only 3Mhz.
