Heh, I got my old IBM computer's YM3812 playing YM2612 music.. the result is both interesting, and SCARY.. too be honest, if Balloon park didn't go off key, and the percussions were not there, it would sound almost authentic..
the computer playing these is the computer on the right, with it's little ZIP drive..

I'd like to know the means by which you'd do so. I'm sorry, but pretty much everything you say set the Bullshit Alert lights flashing automatically. I wonder why.

don't get what you mean.. it's called playcmf... i get the GYM files, convert those to midi, then convert them to CMF, which is almost native to the YM3812... this is CLEARLY something anyone with a SoundBlaster, or Adlib, can easily do. (which means it's still 2612 music because it was directly converted from the GYM files...)
EDIT: and hell, if you want, get DOSBOX, it will do it for you too, if you want those files, email me, i got PlayCMF, SBFMDRV, and the CMF files that contain the music.. better if you have the real hardware though..
unfortounetly for you, i already gave up hoaxing, as said before.. that means, instead of being a jerk about it, just ask how it was done, like your first sentence asked...
Here's a package for you, just to prove it to anyone that this is true stuff: http://blackevilweredragon.spymac.com/YM3812.zip
in it is SBFMDRV, which is a YM3812 driver, playcmf, which is a CMF player, and the 5 2612 songs, plus one... Enjoy and have a nice day. It will most likely work on a OPL-3 card, but you'll need our own SBFMDRV executable.. this package assumes you set the popper BLASTER commands, etc... This package alone is enough to get DOSBOX playing them, granted your CPU can take DOSBOX...

Haha, they're all so whimsy, it sounds like mice are playing Mega Drive music
the Sonic 3 boss sounds like an accordian and a drumset falling down a cliff XD

yea, lol :p .. well the main difference between the two chips, is that the YM2612 is a 4-operator chip, and the YM3812 is a 2-operator chip.. the 3812 does have more channels and waveforms though..
Heres one that actually sounded quite good.. Though, the noisy stuff isn't there when played on speakers.. i guess vintage computers are just noisy to recording equipment.

Well, you know what they say about the boy who cried wolf, evildragon. ;) At any rate glad to see you aren't trying to fool anyone this time around. Of course it sounds like shit though since that synth isn't what this music was composed for. It would sound a lot better if you made a MIDI arrangement and played it back through a superior Yamaha synth. I have a very good example of this I will post later (it is not on this PC.)

well, as i said, im done hoaxing ;)
yea, i know it wasn't composed for it, but it's kinda cool getting it to work in the first place.. i still think the mystic zone sounded the best, minus the crappy static interference..
im hoping to have a new Yamaha DX7 for birthday or Christmas.. hearing THAT play the music would be sweet..
