Saturn Not Picking Up Action Replay 4 in 1 RAM Cart

So I have the cart in my system and I can use the menu and cheats an all. But when it comes time to save, it wont let me, it says no cartridge is present.

I did notice in the AR menu that I can copy files from one area to another. Must I copy system files to the cart and then back again in order to play them?

Is this related to my dying battery?

Only the cool Sega carts can save directly. The much-lamer 3rd party carts cannot.

I think there is work in homebrew aps to allow direct saving to the cart but yes as Joe stated the 3rd party carts such as the 4 in 1s can not save directy.
