I ate such a staggering amount of sushi tonight.. it's a food that creates such a rich sense of fullness and health. I'm so glad that I went for the sushi instead of the group favourite KFC, which tastes absolutely delicious but always results in the horrible knowledge that you just willingly shoveled complete greasy shit into yourself that you actually paid money for moments previous. $10 of sushi, though, buys you complete hunger fulfillment and a mood of wellbeing. Sushi's not a food I'd want to eat daily, but on a semi-regular basis, hell yes indeed. Ebbi ebbi and spicy tuna rolls are simply extraordinary.

What do you dudes think of sushi?

Eeel rolls are my fav. Good sushi is hard to beat, but I'll take plain old butter fried maine lobster tails anyday of the week! :D

Back to the subject at hand, about the only sushi I REALLY don't like is squid because it's so gooey/chewy and takes forever to swallow just one small roll. The texture almost tastes like fishy flavored gum.

My pops eats squid tenticles like they are freakin' noodles or something. It's disgusting!

See I'm actually allergic to fish, make sme projectile vomit minutes of ingesting. Kinda sucks cause some fish and shell fish I like... just won't stay down.

Anyways, back to sushi and sushami as that is what my dad prefers. I come along sometimes to get shitfaced drunk and eat all the sushi rice and those really tiny salmon eggs (the really really small ones... they seem not to up set my stomach..) I get em' in a bowl and butter em' onto balls of rice.

I've never eaten sushi, but faced with option of that or KFC I would pick sushi every damn time. Even the thought of a bucket of greasy fried chicken disgusts me.

When it comes to food, there's almost nothing that I won't try, but for some reason I'm afraid to try sushi. I'v come close to trying it a few times, but never could take the plunge. I'll have to do it though because it sounds good.

As far as KFC goes; I love good fried chicken, and KFC is anything but good fried chicken.

I love Japanese things, music, you guys know what I'm talking about.

That being said, I tried VERY hard to like Sushi and Japanese food for that matter. I can't for the life of me eat it ever again. I kept thinking that this sushi roll I was eating should be cooked. The fact that it is not is just WRONG, and how I would just have preferred sticking the damn thing in a toaster oven with some butter and lemon.

That's what I think about Sushi.

But... for those of you who are afraid of eating it... the time that I did try it, I ate 2 rolls each of tuna and salmon wraps, each time trying to like it and failed. But I was glad I did try it though. Please, for those on the fence about it... do try it, you may be surprised.

What people don't get is that sushi is chemically treated before being served. You're not gonna get sick by eating raw fish when it's been treated right, unlike raw chicken/beef.

Correctly prepared sushi poses no health risk at all, in fact it's probably one of the healthiest meals you can eat.

It's taken me quite awhile to develop a fondness for sushi. Before I'd ever tried it, I was always hearing from my friends what a delicacy it was, how delicious it was, etc. etc. When I ate my first piece, I just couldn't understand how this could possibly be seen as anything near amazing. All I could taste was the soya sauce, and the seaweed texture felt fairly revolting. Still, the more sushi I've eaten over the years, the more I've come to enjoy it. For me, sushi is the very defintion of an acquired taste.

In terms of Japanese food besides sushi, I've tried sashimi, restaurant-prepared ramen soup, and various unusual snack foods from these interesting shops in Vancouver called 1000 Yen Store and Big Crazy. Many of those snacks had really unique packaging designs, although the products themselves were of questionable flavour.. taro root sandwich cookies and "cheese"-flavoured sponge cake I do not recommend.

I've always wanted to eat sushi, even though I hate most seafood.

I used to like fish, then I hated it. I'd then eat ship like no tommorow, now I hate it.

I could go for some crab legs right now. :(

I was disgusted by Sushi at first. . .mostly from the mentality that food should be cooked.
Then I ended up trying some Spicy Tuna on a flight to Thailand without knowing what it was.

DAMN tasty.

My current Favorites include the Spicy Red Tuna, Fatty Tuna, Smoked Salmon, and Yellowtail

I also like more western raw fish like Ahi-Tar Tar
but it isn't exactly Sushi.
Raw Fish is paradoxical in that it's a type of food that tastes great without being bad for your health.

There is always vegitarian sushi if you are not fond of fish. I love jap food, maybe its the jap in my blood :) but I have loved sushi ever since I first tried it. My fav is California rolls (Crab), I havent tried them with real crab yet though. Usually its too expensive for 6 pcs $10 vs $3 for fake crab. I top it off with prawn and veggie tempura and chicken karage (sp?) and calamarai if I can. That is one unhealthy meal since everything but the sushi is deepfried lol.

Drixxel if you are ever looking for a really good sushi place in North Van my friends and I know quite a few good places around. There is a number in lonsdale quay. I usually go out for sushi at least once every 2 weeks. Ive tried my share of sushi places. OH there is a really good place in the sinclair center right next to waterfront. Inside the sinclair building in the food court. They have really good cali rolls there. I think it is called sushi to go or something.

I've been living in Japan for the last 4 years and sushi is not just limited to raw fish! It's okay because I thought the same thing at one time.
There are various different types of sushi and you can most certainly have your fish cooked if you want it prepaired like that. Unfortunatly I'm not to fond of most Japanese food but I do love sushi with wasabi!

Neat. I'll be heading to Vancouver on the Rememberance Day weekend, and if I'm in the North Van area at all I'll try to check out the local sushi scene. It shouldn't be hard to convince my friends to go on a sushi quest. Thanks for the heads up, FishySaysSpoon.

Tonight I dined at Arby's.
Needless to say, I wish I'd had sushi instead. Two Beef 'n Cheddars and curly fries.. yeah, that's caloric intake capable of feeding an entire Ethiopian village. The oily "cheese" lubricant is.. disturbing.

Eating that kind of heavily processed food definately makes the natural goodness of sushi so much more appealing.

I'm a vegetarian, but I do eat vegetarian sushi sometimes. I particularly enjoy ginger rolls.

There's this sushi bar in Berkeley that serves only vegan sushi, and they're just about the best place to eat. The owner actually buys the ingredients every morning from a local grocery store.

What kind of stuff do they use for Vegan Sushi?
Cuz the only kind I've had were cucumber rolls. . .

Just interested since ginger rolls sound good.

They use all kinds of stuff. Ginger, cucumber, squash, tofu, snow peas, tempura, carrots, the works.
