Doing the MEGA Bites column has gotten me thinking about doing a podcast. I've no idea really about how to go about it, but it sounds like it might be a fun idea.

Opinions?

I'm not sure what you'd talk about, but I'd download and listen to it. I don't have an iPod, though. It would be awesome to get a round table discussion going between several members on a particular Genesis topic, but I'm not sure how to do that.

I think that's a great idea, you could just talk about the games you've been playing each week(Sega related or not, talk about games you've been playing on modern-consoles aswell as retro-consoles) and just talk about general stuff that you wanna talk about.

Podcasting is just an Internet fad. Personally I don't see a point in downloading audio when the reviews and articles are so well written.

The point is that you can take it with you and listen to it at the gym, on the way to the office, or while you're running. It's not a fad; it's an alternate, more accessible form of conveying information.

I think a podcast would be great. Better than simply having people chat about the games they're playing, however, would be to have a Game of the Week that everyone shares opinions on as well as a few topics to discuss - they might be current matters about sequels to Genesis games, for instance, or maybe just talking about the history of Sega, etcetera. There's a million things to talk about.

I think it's a great idea. Another way to add to the site and its following.

I'd really like to do this, but I'm clueless about the logistics of how to do it.

Don't you have contacts back at GotNext or wherever who've done it before?

Although I admit that any sort of conversation ala Crossfire would be nigh unto impossible. It'd all have to be turn-by-turn discussion.

Although my familiarity with podcasting is limited. Wouldn't it just work the same way as uploading and downloading any file? I assume being as though it's podcasting it has more to do with ipods and therefore the filetype is probably restrictive to being listened to on an ipod as opposed to good old fashioned .wav files.

Interesting guys interesting, its a little bit iffy but it could concievably work, I'll tell you what I think would be a fantastic addition, inside in the reviews if there was a link to a video of the game, that would be a amazing.

I for one absolutely love watching excerpts from games -

One argument = why don't you just download the rom?

Well the argument I would put accross is sometimes watching a game in the right hands can showcase its possibilities also some other levels other than the first can be shown off, any possibility for this in the future Melf?

Personally I think stuff like this and podcasts are the way forward, we've got to use as many mediums as we can!

This would be nice to expand the greatness of this site, as well as video features would be cool. Some things could be best explained and described by watching or listening.

well I'm going to be first to put my hand up and offer my help, I'm all up for it, if there are any problems with loading videos onto the servers or anything like that I have a good idea anyway...

Listen to this,

How about sega-16 has its own official youtube account with video game reviews.

In each game review we could have links to the videos and a new column in the toolbar of the site to bring you to a listing for them,

The beauty of this would be that if any person who didn't know about sega-16 typed sonic into youtube up would pop the video game review, they would see a standard "brought to you by sega-16.com" style logo and then hopefully a thoroughly proffessional video review.
With a link provided this person could make their way to the site and hey presto new members!

I found this site years too late, if I had known about it earlier I would have been delighted.

Thankfully the site's extensive database means typing in specific megadrive queries brings up the site a lot on google.

Regarding the video idea I would love to hear ye're thoughts guys as I said, I would be more than happy to help, administrate etc etc

I've noticed too that youtube embedding and podcasting really catch fire with retro game sites in the past year or so. Melf if you've never been there google Hardcore Gaming 101. Kurt Kalata runs it and is a really good guy, he and his group recently put out podcasts. I'm sure he'd be glad to offer you all the tips you'd need to get a podcast up and running.

Personally, I don't think it's a need, but it could certainly add to the site. As someone said earlier, the reviews and articles are enough on its own.

Another argument for video: downloading the ROM is too much of a pain for SegaCD games, for instance.

Hardcore101 is my favorite!

I think this is a brilliant idea. Unfortunately, knowledge on how to make a "professional" looking video review may be limited.

I'd love to expand, but at the moment it'd be kind of hard for me to get the proper tools together.

I know there's a program that links multiple computers via microphone and lets them all talk like they were in the same room, but i've since forgotten where I found it. If we could do at least one Reader Roundtable like that, it's be an awesome accomplishment.

Obviously both ideas need the green light from Melf, but they could be amazing.

With regards the videos, we could have a thread where everyone sends in there best intro eg "brought to you by..." and finishing with something like this each of these words popping up on the screen one by one "Genesis", "Megadrive", "sega-cd", "32x", "Interested?"....... "Sega-16.com"

Would be really cool in my opinion

We could then trash out the blueprint for the reviews that would make them standard, ie 2 and a half minute long each etc

Melf I'll advise you to grap a sega-16.com username on youtube right away before its snapped up!!!

We can use it if we want afterwards then.....

Just get members to speak into a microphone, host their awful screechy 64KBPS MP3 recordings on tindeck.com, mash them up into a great big MP3, add a SEGA-16 intro, and let it loose as a download link in a featured article. You can always stick the MP3 into a Flash video for youtube, too.

VinnyT: That's called reading out IRC conversations :D
