I do indeed have a digital camera, but batteries are in very short supply at the moment. ..and my gaming area's nothing special. Right now I have a Genesis, Atari Jaguar, and N64 hooked up in my bedroom to a 27" television at the foot o' the bed, and in the actual area of my humble abode reserved for gaming, there's a loveseat and an old green armchair positioned strategically in front of an entertainment center containing yet another 27" TV and the remainder of the consoles. My games are in a fairly chaotic state right now, as I'm in the stages of reorganizing it all as to allow greater ease of access to the games themselves, so it all looks pretty terrible right now.

If you really want pictures I can take pictures but I'm currently living with family while I'm awaiting my move to Tampa in a couple of months. Suffice it to say the gaming area isn't nearly as nice/set up correctly as it was in my old apartment.

Mine has changed many times over the few years after moving from my parents... I used to have something I don't have pics of.
Then when I moved a bunch of my friends into my townhouse cause they all needed a place I lost my gaming room and moved it to the living room. My roomates played it a lot and didn't know how to take care of shit, as you can see.

I only have my Genny and Computer hooked up to the TV right now. Hell yeah, thats my newest upgrade, My XP maching is plugged into the DVI on my 57" HDTV. Uber sized web surfing!

The following pics are of my gaming room. There are a couple of things I should mention though... I just recieved a large shipment of Sega CD games as well as some hardware which is why my room is unusually messy. Also I haven't lived in the house where the picture was taken for very long and I haven't had time to get rid of the construction wallpaper.

I am the biggest geek in town as it comes to owning a lot of video games... everyone (and I know just about everyone in my town and surrounding towns, I get around quite a bit) has always noted how I have the largetst collection yet... Only James a friend of mine comes close to having the amount of stuff as me.
Then I look here and see this... my dear GOD!
I am a mere peasant in comparison...
Anyways, I kinda actually been falling out of the gaming thing. I hooked up all my systems I have left.(sold off quite a few recently as I am very TIGHT on cash at the moment, spent something around $6500 in the month of August to cover bills!) Anyways, I will have pics of my new gaming set up...
Cool thing though today, I got rid of my satellite because when the cable guy came to hook up my internet he didn't know what he was there for... he though something was broken. I explained:
"no I want cable internet and your here to turn it on".
"Oh ok, No TV though?"
"Nope don't watch TV"
"Really? Who the hell doesn't watch TV? Especially when you own a TV that BIG!"
"I play a lot of vid games and watch DVDs."
"Well I don't have of the modem trap boxes... soooo... I guess your getting free cable."
HOT DOG! Free TV... now I can watch History channel and the Weather Channel for FREE!

Why would anyone waste a large screen tv on crap cable tv viewing? Either it's for HD programming, DVD's, or games.
BTW how large is your TV in 4:3 terms, because one of the things I hate w/ 16:9 tv's is how you hear 50" and ppl think it's huge simply because they're thinking of 4:3 50" tv's. The only 16:9 TV I've seen that aproximates the height of my 4:3 is a 65" HDTV by Mitsubishi, which I might get in a year or so. It's either gonna be something 65"/larger or a HD projector with 9' screen capacity for true theater sized viewing/gaming.
P.S. can you either space out or shrink the pics you've posted? It's messing the thread up bad. It's why I posted thumbnails instead, to avoid this very problem.

I've seen this before and I'll repeat my comment from the past. That is a very nice collection of games and alot of nice work has been put into the room itself, and to the display of the games. That said, how is it he only plays his games on that SHIT television set? You telling me he can afford to buy all those games but he can't afford a decent TV? Talk about a total buzzkill, it's like what Butthead said to Beavis: "Beavis, you just sent my boner into the ground".

08-30-2005, 06:59 PM
Well, he explained why he has one if you scroll down.
But I'll quote it here:
Q: What’s up with that shitty TV, this guy needs a Plasma.
A: My TV is a 32” and plenty big for the distance you’re sitting in front of it from the NES bench. I didn’t see the need in blowing another $400 for a 36” and Plasmas and Bigscreens are to prone to burnt images when playing older games on them. If all I played was XBOX/PS2/GameCube, then yeah, I would sooner have a plasma.
Hell, I'm perfectly fine with my '27, might not be the biggest one in the world, but it was free, and is perfect for my tiny room. I barely touch my Xbox, and it looks fine with S-video, even tho I have component inputs.
Vicman
08-30-2005, 07:05 PM
You have component imputs and you think it looks fine with S-Video? Either you don't have good eyes, your tv is sucky, or you got crappy 3rd party cheapo cables because the difference is always pretty large IMO.
Vicman
08-30-2005, 07:09 PM
Also I don't buy that 32 is plenty big crap. If he's worried about burnt images then get a hd-projector and enjoy theater sized gaming for roughly $1000 w/o fear of burn in. Also that NES bench, while neat looking, seems rather uncomfortable to me for long hours of gaming.
Collection-wise what he has is EXTREMELY impressive and praise-worthy, but his set up indeed does suck.
David J.
08-30-2005, 07:12 PM
Well, I have low standards on these kinds of things. My mom bought me the S-video cables as a gift and didn't know. Also, I don't even touch my Xbox anymore. The only time it is used is when my cousins come over. Why spend money just to spend money?
At their house, my cousins play their Xbox on a '13 inch screen with a RF adaptor, and they've never complained.

I understand, it's just that once you get used to having a nice tv anything less is a letdown.
Here is an older pic of my setup, missing from the picture is a Model 2 Genny, Model 2 SNES, and New style Psone.
Here is the description.
Need to work on some things like tidying up the cables in the back and getting things on my game shelf in order but here is what a gaming nerds room looks like.
All playable by the flip of a switch or two and running on the best possible video connection (component for the newer and s-video/composite on the rest) and also on battery backup.
Left shelf down then Right shelf down:
Sega Genesis with Model 2 Sega CD & 32-X/ Sega Master System
Sega Genesis with Model 2 Sega CD & Master Converter/Turbo Duo with Kasaido Adaptor
JVC Wonder Mega/ Sega CDX
Sega Saturn/Sega Dreamcast
Atari Jaguar/Panasonic 3DO

Actually I use a 20". I've always had a 17-20" tv while gaming, and to be honest i've nver had a problem with it. Maybe if it was outside my bedroom i would try something bigger, but I find that 16-bit and 32-bit gaming work best on the smaller screens, (read less pixels)

I think videogames look better on TVs... those old systems are made at a low res that your TV supports unlike your computer... most computers put out a minimum of like 800X600, if your lucky maybe 640X480.
The image of your game has to be scaled to that which looks really funky (why the pixels are so defined on your emulator)
For the longest time I had my computer use the Svideo out on my Geforce ti4200 so I could play movies and emulators.
Now I just have it hooked upto a HDTV and computer monitor nulled out

Oh I know, but why not enjoy the added enhancements of filters to improve image quality and try to get as close to hi-res 2-D art as possible? You can get a better image because of s-video cables instead of regular AV or RF, right? Well, why stop there is all I'm saying. Look at the two pictures below, one is using Genny-esque resolution, the other is in a higher resolution. Maybe I'm just the odd one out in this crazy lot at Sega-16 but I'd take the clearer/sharper looking visuals anyday of the week over the old muddy ones.

yes but when you have an emulator playing without filters (like the kid I was responding to was)... a genny hooked to a TV will look better then it as the TV puts out the same res.
On top of that the better cable connection you use to supply the color seperation parameters will jump the quality more.
A genny hooked upto an Amiga Monitor via RGB is my favorite consideration of video quality for the genny.
Grrr, I want to start working on that RPG I was planning again. Damn it I need artists...

the chances of them greenlighting a 2D game though are slim to none... they happen every once in awhile (and look sick as all hell! I remember this one war game that came out early on the PS2, you took control of a tank or some shizzy, the battles were 3D and very nice looking but the rest was all in 2D and looked gorgeous... on top of that the game was HIGHLY addicting. Its a shaim I can't remember the name of it, it was like 3 years ago me and my old flatmate played it... wow that was long).
Oh my, a great game though that was a 2d/3d game (all 3d art but 2d gameplay) was Contra Shattered Soldier... I don't know why this game got so much flack. It was AWESOME good ol' Contra fun! I was addicted and mastered that freakin' game... A rank and all!
I think RPGs really are the only thing left that still do 2d... and not often... and everyone swamps on them "ah that looks like the SNES"
NO, I don't see the SNES handling that many sprites on screen and those humongous images... stupid tards.

Oh I know, but why not enjoy the added enhancements of filters to improve image quality and try to get as close to hi-res 2-D art as possible?
The thing that makes high resolution 2D special is the high resolution. You can not approach this by any way meddling with something in a low resolution. You can however display the low resolution as exact as possible.
You can get a better image because of s-video cables instead of regular AV or RF, right? Look at the two pictures below, one is using Genny-esque resolution, the other is in a higher resolution. Maybe I'm just the odd one out in this crazy lot at Sega-16 but I'd take the clearer/sharper looking visuals anyday of the week over the old muddy ones.
This completely confounds me. The picture on the left seems to be blurred. The picture on the right is not blurred. There is no difference in resolution.
Why do you call the left one "old"?
The Genesis outputs RGB. If you live in Europe and use a SCART TV or use some kind of RGB monitor in the States it will look exceptional. You will be able to tell the individual pixels easily.

Through the magic of graphic filtratrion made possible by modern console emulation, lower resolution 2D graphics can be made to look like a sort of pseudo high-res that takes advantage of whatever resolution your emulator is running at. I personally don't care for the look of the graphics smoothing associated with these kinds of filters, but hey, to each their own.
Even without filters, running a Genesis game in ROM form on an emulator set at a resolution of 1280 x 1024 is going to give you a strangely well-defined rendition of what was originally a 320 x 224 resolution game. Lets just imagine that Emulator X is capable of displaying any given Genesis ROM at four times its original resolution, meaning that there are now 16 pixels for every one original pixel. These 16-pixel blocks are each behaving as if they were a single pixel, but the image quality will be noticably crisper as each 'pixel' is now better defined. Combine that with graphic filtering that blends the colour of each actual pixel with the pixels adjacent to it and you have created the impression of high-resolution 2D graphics, to a certain extent.
That is what Vicman was getting at, I gathered. Those two screenshots he gave as examples were meant as a comparison between the picture quality of a Genesis hooked to a television versus the picture quality on an emulator. Without a genuine side-by-side comparison of a television beside a computer monitor the difference can't really be felt, especially through those two scaled-down images.
lordofduct
10-27-2005, 06:06 AM
True... but as Drixxxel points out, the kid has both images at the same resolutions. When you stretch that right image to a higher resolution crap happens! (even the left image too, which though is taking how? probably through a coaxial or composite input on a capture card... of course its going to be lower quality then a screenshot of an emulator!) The muddiness of that image is caused by the source cable and not the hardware! Of course something that is displayed directly from it's processing unit on high quality VGA is not going to be as muddy with bleeding colors. But that isn't resolution as has been stated. This can be rectified with RGB cables or atleast something near that.
Yeah as you said now a pixel which once one ray of light across is now 16 pixels across! This is good? How? that means on screen you now have a rounded edge looking more like a pair of steps!
look here, I will show you a line, curve and circle at a low res. Then I will stretch that image (no filters) from its 120X120 to twice and qudrupal it's size. Look what happens... zig zags! Not freaking cool.

And what do you think happens to Sonic when you put him in the emulator... this isn't high res art! This is low res art stretched... high res art is like that image posted long back of what looked like Y's or a Y's knock off.
like so... Sonic CD original sprite... and then stretched!

ok i dont want to spam so much in the post your games list thread so i stop now and post here:
the reason for the new BIG Photos is:
i got a few hater guest book entries with spam like:
-this is not your collection, these are not your games etc...
i dont understand why people doing this...? Adol has a complete collection and i wanna have one too (someday... in 10 years )
now is every game on a big photo and the page need some time to load :-)
fell free to sign in my guestbook / gästebuch so my parents can see that there are more idiots like me collecting old vidgames :-)

Daniel,
Adol is a prick, and you are not. Don't compare you to him.
For those wondering, he is the type of collector that hoards prototypes because he thinks they will loose their value. Truthfully, he has a one of one Mega CD prototype, and won't release it to the world. Also, he would buy games and resale them for quite a bit more than he bought them for. I'm sure he got steamed when someone got a game he was selling on ebay for less, while his stuff just sat there.
His collection is nice, no doubt. But his attitude leaves a to be LOT desired.

I already said who he is, but for those who missed it...
Adol is a french dude who buys games cheap and sells them a LOT more than what he paid for. Also he hoards prototypes. Reselling cheap games for a lot is how he gets the money for all of his games.
He's been doing this since the '90's and it really pisses off other collectors. I just want him to share his MegaCD prototype, that's all.

Thise collections are outta handed,Why so much,Just to pet their ego or something,Man come on,buy with limits buy what you actually can play not an overdose.Like if youre the ultimate gamer and have to have everything like a obsesion then maybe youle get a quick death,Like look at those people sitting 24 hours Playing WoW thats just sad, then they die because their obsession and its their own dumb fault,Like Drinking beer, and you want more and more and more, and inventually youre live is gone, like people look at you as what you envy and people dislike you and going to call you names, like beer is fine but not to much because the fun is over then.people who have over like 1500 games and Buyed like more then 10 versions of the gameboy just for its rarirty and then even go outside the door and Pet they EGOism, those guys arent cool but geeks.Unlike you and i probably we just have over 100 Genesis and bought because of their quality or maybe for rarity, but that usual not overheaded.Like a dude with over 1000 consoles comes home and sits down and keeps looking for 10 Hour at his collection and the next keeps wandering what he is going to play the next day,Like his life is work and games,Work play,Work Play,Work Play,Death thats over sad.
David J.

Hey, I might sell a few rarities in a few years because I don't play them, and I can make backups of them, plus I don't like the games. So why keep them? Why in a few years? Price might go up, and the car I want is hopefully coming out in a few years.
So I'll have an even bigger downpayment. Only time will tell. You gotta have to compromise sometimes.

People often ask me why I don't have more games, but my answer is always this:
- I'm a student with limited resources.
- I have a life to lead, therefore I don't have time to play games all day.
- I'm going to need money a lot in the future.
- There's about 50 million things more important in life than video games.
That's why I don't have an XBox or DS or PS2. I have a Genesis because I like it, the games are great, they're cheap, and I can have fun with them without having to invest a great deal of time.
I just want him to share his MegaCD prototype, that's all.
Do you mean Burning Fist? I believe he agreed to have Good Deal Games finish it up and publish it.

B.C. Rich guitars are pretty neat, and Warlock WHS's are no exception. They're a little over-the-top in terms of design, but it sure does look like a dangerous instrument.
In fact David J, YOUR attitude need to be improved a LOT.
You're just a "jealous prick" (using your terms), because you're not able to achieve things like i did.
You just said here: "Truthfully, he has a one of one Mega CD prototype, and won't release it to the world"
and guess what? I DID.
Now should i wait apologies from someone like you, or maybe you won't be a man and will not do so?

A few Xbox games run in 720p or 1080i or both. I have yet to purchase an Xbox360.

Joe Redifer: Do you cut the cardboard boxes of your Genesis and 32X games and put them in clamshell cases? It looks so, and it looks pretty well. Maybe I should ask my mother to help me with that :p.
BTW, why aren't the black and red series of Genesis boxes sorted?
Joe Redifer
01-14-2007, 08:56 PM
The original cardboard boxes remain in the condition I purchased them, uncut. I scan them in at a very high resolution and then perform fixes for blemishes and color in Photoshop, and then I print them out on legal-sized photo paper and then put everything into a spare clamshell case. Games are now sorted in alphabetical order.

I'm indifferent towards arms on office chairs.
My seatbase really crapped out very fast, so my dad reupholstered it with corduroy, and it's holding out very well. The backrest is still in great condition, and has the orignal leather with little tear.
Very comfy... if I could get the seats out of my car, damn, I'd be really happy.

Any chance of you making those 32X scans available for download? :D
Joe Redifer
01-16-2007, 12:44 AM
I'll be happy to upload them if you want to host them, however they are (let me check)... uncompressed TIFF files at 400dpi and usually hover at around 60 MB each. I'm sure a compressed JPEG could get that size down to well under 10MB each. And you'll need legal-sized paper unless your printer can print close to the very edge of the sheet.

The rest of you got some sweet collections/rooms, too! I wish I had a digital cam. I've got two gaming rooms. The Modern Room is in my living room. Consists of the PS2 and the GC and all the games are on a DVD shelf. I play on a 27" TV. It isn't plasma but it gets the job done.
The Old-School Room is in my bed room. NES, SNES, Genesis, old Game Boy Games and GBA games are kept in there. I play console games on a new 13" TV I got a few weeks ago.

Yeah, the Saturn is my pride and joy. That game looking odd is Sega Rally. I hope to get the loose games complete someday. And a new insert for Tomb Raider as mine is badly sun faded, maybe a new manual too.
All Acclaim 32X games have plastic cases, so it's not something that was bastardized.

You'll also have to get (since they are hardware):
-Dreamcast keyboard
-Broadband Adaptor for Dreamcast (to surf for porn)
-Saturn Mission Stick
-Saturn MPEG/PhotoCD card
-Real 4 Meg RAM cart for Saturn by Sega (1 Meg as well) plus the KoF '95 cart.
-2 Sega backup memory carts for Saturn.
-Justifier light gun for Saturn
-Sega 3D glasses for the Master System
-Sega Light Phaser (SMS)
and if you don't have the following already:
-Power Base Converter for the Genesis
-Sega Back Up RAM cart for Sega CD
-3 button Sega arcade stick, as well as the 6 button

I used to have two Genesis systems out and plugged in, because I thought it was cool. My setup is kind of a pain in the ass - I have a heat register between my TV Entertainment Center and my shelving, and six AC adaptors alone for one unique video game system was kind of stupid - so I just have the Model 1 Genesis, Model 1 Sega CD, and 32X hooked up. I would have had the Model 2 Sega CD hooked up nowadays, but I barely play Sega CD, so I can live with using my Model 1 console 24/7. Plus I moved my Saturn right next to my Genesis 1 combo, so I needed the space. :D
I put my SCART splitter in one of the shelves in my entertainment center, and I am hoping to get a Master System in the future. Along with a Stereo Reciever and bookcase speakers.
I thought about buying a Toshiba TV like Joe's, but that'll be when my Philips shits the bed on me - my TV had some wierd geometry when I played in composite, and when I upgraded to component... it got worse, so I had to go in the service mode to make it normal.
As a result, my broadcast TV is a bit cropped off at places - you know when you watch a show and they have the network logo on the bottom of the screen, sometimes it's cut off all the way, and other channels it's not, it depends on the network. I could have gotten it perfect, but my service mode is weak when it comes to adjusting the screen.

I had to try out like 3 tvs until I found one that wouldn't turn purple when turned on its side. It was worth it though I nothing like playing a vertical shooter the way it is meant to be played. With Dreamcast, Saturn and Mame with a tv out there are many to play.
And yes I love my Fatal Fury hat. My brother was kind enough to let me have his. Now if I could only get his life size cardboard Shenmue stand up from him.
Old Zeus does the trick I think. We found him as a starving puppy eating garbage. Yeah he does the trick in my god awful neighborhood full of drunks, annoying college kids (also mostly drunk but at least they wont break into my house), people down on their luck, and many incarnations of scum. He also is becoming quite famous thanks to newspaper photographers who keep coming to the dog park we frequent.

My brother picked it up somewhere. One of our close friends made a few trips to Japan it may have come back with him then. Its the same place I got my mini G.I.Joe sized Sega Saturn from. He used to have a crazy good collection of import and U.S. Saturn and Dreamcast games. He go rid of lot of good stuff though still has his Panzer Dragoon Saga and the best of his stuff.

I have a Genesis because I like it, the games are great, they're cheap, and I can have fun with them without having to invest a great deal of time.
your absolutly right
im with you

The rest I've just gotten good deals on here and there, or else bought new or were given as gifts. I love robots, engineering, and science fiction, but Transformers in particular. Is it any surprise that one of my favorite Genesis games is Ranger X? :D I'm not very good at playing it, necessarily, but I love it all the same.

I constantly scour thrift stores and once in a great while they turn up. My wife brought me home a bag one time with Starscream, Thundercracker and Optimus. When I was in Sweden I found a few in the garbage. I never had many when I as little. They were to expensive. Though I will always remember getting Wheeljack on my 4th birthday and then Optimus on my 7th. Those were the days. Happy memories there.

a Mame machine with only 2 action buttons!? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING! "ah, who needs weak and medium punch/kick, all you use is fierce punch and kick for street fighter anyway!" When the day comes that I build a MAME cabinet, each joystick is going to have like 10 buttons to go with it so there is NO chance of a game I can't play from button limitations (including SNES, Genesis, etc.) Will that be busy? yes, but I plan to counteract that with a clever overlay system :) .

so he built a whole arcade cabinet to play...Asteroids? I mean, if you're going to invest the time and money (or alot of money) into a MAME cabinet, you should at least have enough buttons so you can play something made past 1987.
Doesn't look like too much money was invested. It looks like a two button control method was the original control scheme on the cabinet. Anyways, go ahead and post up your gaming setup.

OK
- not cool.

seriously though.
A) if its a 2 button cabinet, cut some fucking holes and add buttons
B) I will, I was actually thinking of making a youtube video showing off my collection since its all spread out through various rooms, but then again I don't want someone that sorta kinda knows me to see it and want to try to steal it for crack money.

a Mame machine with only 2 action buttons!? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING! "ah, who needs weak and medium punch/kick, all you use is fierce punch and kick for street fighter anyway!" When the day comes that I build a MAME cabinet, each joystick is going to have like 10 buttons to go with it so there is NO chance of a game I can't play from button limitations (including SNES, Genesis, etc.) Will that be busy? yes, but I plan to counteract that with a clever overlay system :) .
Perhaps because the cabinet has a vertically mounted monitor.
How many vertical games can you name that use more than 2 action buttons?
You would do well to not pass judgment on others' accomplishments unless
you can prove that you have done better yourself.
Anyway, here is a link to my cabinet project.

it's not hate, its "lighting a fire under your ass", get you to do some flip in flip out shit per se (as owen wilson once said)
QQHHNXmtwxo
but anyway, I didn't see that the monitor was vertical initially (I honestly thought the arcade was off until i went back and looked at the picture). I guess its a little more authentic to have 2 buttons, but its just kinda like, why? when its so easy just to drill 2-6 more holes to make any game accessible. I also noticed you were going to go with an XBOX and then switched to a PC, why was that? I haven't tried to run MAME on my XBOX yet, does it suck for some reason?

Well he might have autism, too.
Sigh Leave it to people like Spax3 to give all of us that have autism/asperger's a bad reputation of being over reactive, completely obsessed over one thing, being extreme nitpickers (Spax 3 and the voice acting saga), leaching off the government and then just generally acting like a jackass when called up upon by the internet community to calm down.
It makes it so all of us people who think just because we have autism/aspergers doesn't give us the excuse to leach off the government, act like we're the center of the world, be extremely rude to others, and expect special treatment from others look really bad. :(
But I digress, here's my collection. I'll post some pictures of my setup soon.

He told me once and I think it was $20 or $30. But seriously, does anyone really know how much they've spent on gaming in their lifetime? I doubt it. I estimate I've spent between 30-40k, but that is only a very rough and random guess with no actual calculation.
Anyway, that is indeed a really good collection. I never got to play Gunner's Heaven, so I am jealous of that! I've always wanted to try it.
I also like that you surf Sega-16 on your giant-ass TV. I also noticed that Astal had a spine label... exactly like my spine label! Heh heh. I suppose these days I could scan that and remove all of the background junk so the text stands out more. Oh what we had to do back in the day before graphic editing software!

EDIT: The big, tall, shelves on the right side of the screen that show up occasionally have my games in it. It is much too dark in the shelves to show any pictures of it and I didn't want to mess with the arrangement of the games. Also, where there's the dark void where the NES and SNES are, there's an N64 hiding in there.

Sorry I only just now noticed your post. Better late than never.
That system is called the 'Radofin 1292 Advanced Programmable Video System'
The info on this is that it was first made by Radofin in Europe in 1976 and was then licensed to other companies to make their versions in other countries.
These companies and their countries are:
Radofin (Germany and other parts of Europe)
Hanimex (Australia and parts of Europe)
Fountain (Australia and New Zealand)
Prinztronic (United Kingdom)
Lansay (Parts of Europe)
Grandstand (United Kingdom and parts of Europe)
Audiosonic (Parts of Europe)
Acetronic (Parts of Europe)
You mention that it looks like an Emerson Arcadia,
You're not far off there. Apparently the Arcadia shares a same type of processor and some other parts, but AFAIK, I don't think the games of this system are compatible with the Arcadia. I stand to be corrected on that though.
