View Full Version : Doom, the motion picture

A sparkly new trailer for the Doom movie, along with a few production photos.

http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/doom.html

I don't know about this one... the license could make for such an incredible action film, but this preview has me more than a little concerned. Those POV shots look absolutely cheesy, and what's up with this abundance of soldiers? Doom to me has always been about the hopeless last chancer fighting for survival against impossible odds. Anyone read the first Doom novel? That would have made an amazing movie.

Who knows, maybe this'll be awesome. It'll be hard to shake off these negative first impressions..

I'm waiting for the Duke Nukem movie to come out... if I'm not mistaken, 2007 is its scheduled release... and yea, good call on th last man survival thing... but when Doom 3 starts out, there's a whole squad of soldiers and they all die, so it might be that there's one left after the rest get killed.

I'm pretty sure Ah-nuld being awesome is an absolute 100% fact.

Red Sonia aside, Arnie wasn't really in "crap" movies until after True Lies. Eraser was kind of "meh" and it just went downhill from there.

T3 was pretty terrible. Could have done without the star sunglasses and the "talk to the hey-nd" nonsense.

Stacked up against his other movies, "Junior" is pretty crap.

I've never seen that western he was in, it was 70's and pre-Conan...so it can't be that great.

You have no idea what you're talking about, and the message of T2 was lost on you.

T2 was excellent, the story was a great follow up to T1 and further fleshed out an already awesome story,
T3 on the other hand was a rehash and shit on everything that T1 and T2 had accomplished.

Robocop 1 was violent in a good way, the way where it told a good story,

I watched Robocop quite recently for the first time in well over a decade and I forgot how violent it was for it's time. Which of course, is a good thing.

The "Directors Cut", which I believe is the version that got the "X" rating back in 1987, is even more violent than the version everyone saw in theaters.

"Robocop 3" is an abomination, a crime against humanity.

MrMatthews
01-25-2009, 01:32 AM
All of Verhoeven's movies feature gratuitous violence. It usually works.

Robocop actually gave me nightmares when I first saw it. Murphy getting blown to pieces by Red and his gang tore me up, but not so much as when the ED-209 mistakingly locked on to that one guy in the conference room and blew his face off.

It wasn't the violence per se that freaked me out - it was that it shoved me into a startling realization that I, myself, could die. I blame Robocop and La Bamba for drawing the curtain on my childhood innocence.

Now that I'm not 17 anymore, I'm all about cinematic violence, and I've come to regard Robocop as one of Verhoeven's very best (awesome soundtrack, too!). And now I must get this "director's cut"

Rusty Venture
01-25-2009, 04:24 AM
If you thought Murphy getting blown away was bad before, the directors cut has an even more graphic and gruesome death.

And the only Verhoven movie I didn't like was "Showgirls". I suppose I could have overlooked the silliness if it starred Charlize Theron like it was supposedly going to instead of the chick from "Saved by the Bell".

Yeah, I forgot about that one because it sucks. But you're right - it would have sucked a lot less with Charlize.

Robocop 1 is amazing simply because of Ronnie Cox and Kurtwood Smith, those guys kick royal ass in RoboCop 1.

It's funny to watch Ronnie Cox in the 90's and then go back and watch his earlier stuff (like Deliverence). We're so used to seeing him play a complete bastard as an old guy, but he used to specialize in nice guy roles when he was younger (or so my dad tells me)

I can't watch "That 70's Show" without looking at Red and going "ITS THE BAD GUY FROM ROBOCOP!"

I used to think that, but Kurtwood Smith's career is so much more prolific now that I no longer think of him as just "the bad guy from Robocop."

Now, that red-headed guy who was in ER for a while . . . can't look at him wthout thinking "IT'S THE GUY WHO MELTED IN ROBOCOP!"

johnnyb

Yea you know what they are,

A book is a set or collection of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of paper, parchment, or other material, usually fastened together to hinge at one side. A single sheet within a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. A book produced in electronic format is known as an e-book.

Books may also refer to a literature work, or a main division of such a work. In library and information science, a book is called a monograph, to distinguish it from serial periodicals such as magazines, journals or newspapers. The body of all written works including books is literature.

In novels, a book may be divided into several large sections, also called books (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, etc).

A lover of books is usually referred to as a bibliophile, a bibliophilist, or a philobiblist, or, more informally, a bookworm.

A store where books are bought and sold is a bookstore or bookshop. Books can also be borrowed from libraries or obtained for reading through the practice of BookCrossing.
