Anime conventions were never something I thought i'd be really into, but after a buddy of mine went to one, and explained you don't have to know every little thing to really enjoy yourself, I told him i'd go to Ohayocon in January.
Now for that costume, I don't want to divulge too much, cause i'm planning on using the entire process for an article, but I'm hoping for a little advice on doing the Chaos Emeralds. I've been told to get styrofoam and paint it with glitter paint, but I really don't want to be carrying around little balls of styrofoam on a string. Is there another way I could get the exact shape and colors to work. I'm really trying to get the first 6 from just the first Sonic game. Any help from someone who's done this before would be awesome!

No idea how to do any of that stuff, but you had better post some pictures of yourself if your constume, so we can laugh at you.

Well duh....
Still though, I was hoping for something a little more realistic looking, atleast it's not till January.

Sorry Vinny, I don't want to see pictures of you in your costume.
What I do wanna see pics of:
Smoking hot cosplayer chicks showing off lots of leg and even more cleavage.
The more scantly clad, the better.

Is it too late to chance my answer to that?

Yes.
But you can still demand hot cosplay chick cleavage.

Now you have to take pictures of hot cosplay chicks.
If you don't your family name will be shamed for generations and you will be denied service at any restaurant.

I cosplayed earlier this summer at the Jafax convention. It was fun, I went as Kyon from the melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (any anime fans here familiar with that one haha?).
As for 'tips,' well just remember that whatever you choose to wear, make sure it's comfortable, and perferably not too hot. Conventions tend to be packed with tons of sweaty people all in close contact. That brings up another thing, always remember to wear deoderant to conventions, especially in costume.
Going for obscure characters can be fun, but dont' be surprised if it seems like no one knows who you are. Naruto characters will have people coming up and taking your picture, but more lesser known folk may just raise eyebrows (sadly).
Have fun! Cosplaying is great fun and best enjoyed with friends. Here are the pics from when I cosplayed with two of my buddies. I'm the guy in the suit with the red tie: http://wmich.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2139590&l=6d5ee&id=12117408

Speak for yourself, I'm laughing myself to tears at how apparently Bizarro Agent 47 left the Village People before they hit the big-time disco scene and now they can't quite look each other in the eye ahahahaha
'nintendo was for dorks my sega was for manly men hehe how do i get semen stains out of a fox costume'

haha, yes my friend got a lot of attention in that costume. He couldn't take two steps without someone wanting to hug him or take his picture. Although, the parents who told their small children not to look at him was equally funny haha.

Why is your friend cosplaying as Rob Halford?

haha, it's supposed to be a Japanese comedian known as "Hard Gay." There are quite a few subtitled videos on youtube to be found, and he's quite interesting lol.

I never have, but some of my friends have. They are a bit odd in general though, so I dunno what to say.

I am still laughing at that picture right now. How about, Breaking The Law (classic Judas Priest song, now I have it stuck in my head).

Because "Turbo Lover" is a really fucking goofy song,
And it sounds like the name of a vibrator.

I guess you are right, but you would have to be Breaking The Law to wear that in public.
