This thread is so opinionated I don't even know what the point is. You can't answer this question. Best at what?

How can you even compare certain games, like Thief 3 and Far Cry? And if you say 'what is the most FUN game of all time', it's still just opinion.

And how can anyone even give an answer in their personal opinion when no one has ever played all the games ever made?

The whole point is, I'm asking people's opinion, not for facts. I just wanted to know what people's favorite games were, jeez I didn't think everyone would get so mad.

The fact is there is just too many great games that you just can't decide on one. It depends on which genre you are talking about. It is silly to compare Doom to Final Fantasy VII, to Mario Kart.

The problem is over the lifespan of a gamer it is impossible to single one out, its not just that its silly to compare of genres (which is completely valid) but even then try and pick the game that gave you the biggest buzz, was it when you took on botnik in the wing fortress? Found out sephiroth was a bad ass in ff7? Played battle of pow on your older cousins nes at a birthday party? Too many amazing games and moments to pick one!

That is not a fact, it is a (deluded) opinion. I can only assume your gaming experience is somewhat lacking. Blood has aged terribly. It was never much good to begin with.

No it's a fact. Just because you can't see the awesomeness of Blood doesn't make it a bad game. Personally, I reckon it has aged very well, ok 3D graphics have moved on a lot since 1997, which makes the cutscenes laughably poor, but it more than makes up for it with its atmospheric gameplay. The map editor was another awesome touch.

Great game definatly. One of my favorites which I would kill to somehow play on my mac. Better than Doom? Nope. And I dont think Doom is the best game of all time.

Heck, I can't even say Sonic is.

For me its between Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time. Both are absolute classics.

Well, I am just going to throw this out there and say, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion! I just started playing it again and it is taking away all of my free time away lately. It is by no means a perfect game (there is no such thing) it is awesome none the less! (IMHO)

OoT has to be one of the finest games ever released on any console. Prior to playing it I had dismissed it as gay Nintendo nonesense, however, I was greatly mistaken. That and Goldeneye have to be in the top 5 greatest games of all time and almost make an N64 worth buying.

I found Goldeneye to be highly overrated. I guess the multiplayer was exceptional for the time, but the single player is certainly no better than Powerslave, Alien vs. Predator, or Rise of the Triad. Or Hexen. Or Disruptor. Etc.
That is the biggest load of tosh I have ever read. Goldeneye overrated? It is the pinnacle of FPS and nothing before or after has come close (except Blood which I maintain through stubbornness alone is the greatest game on Earth).

Goldeneye is the best FPS game ever for me, no other FPS game has even kept my interest long enough for me to complete it once. The levels in Goldeneye are incredibly varied, both in layout and objectives, the different difficulty levels make a massive difference to how the game plays, even the stuff you can unlock is amazing - including two whole etxra levels. It really is one of the best designed games ever made, so much thought and care was out into every aspect of the game and it really shows.

Perfect Dark was amazing - funny how people say there's no reason to buy an N64, yet keep listing games that make it worth it. If I hadn't gotten a DC I'd be collecting 64 right now. (And the limited library is part of the appeal. It's easy to get an 'ultimate' collection.)

Personally I never played Perfect Dark, I imagined is as Goldeneye with different graphics and some of the soul removed.
The only other decent N64 game was Banjoo-Kazooie. Everything else was tosh (except possibly the Resident Evil 2 port).

I love Banjo Kazooie, although I only ever went to a friend's house to play it. The worst part about Goldeneye is when you're ALMOST finished and Natalya dies. Convinient much? *sigh*
