View Full Version : Best Internet Browser

I've been thinking, there's so many browsers out there for the internet, which is the safest and best to use?
I think this is a pretty good idea for a poll, if the mods don't agree, just close this thead, I'm not fighting for it.
Namely, Which browser do you use on a daily basis?
I personally use Netscape because:
A) I used netscape since the first days, and like that familiar N.
B) The fusion theme rocks no matter what anyone says.
C)I love the little toolbar things: Email, Weather, Bookmark links, News, Stocks, etc.
D) Very Safe Browsing via Security Center.
Your thoughts?

Firefox for life!
Netscape is also very good
Using Safari on windows (other than development reasons) is just stupid.
IE sucks, end of story.
Opera is decent.

Well, Netscape 8.1.3 (best version) is based on FF but made tons better.
so if your familiar with FF, your familiar 50% with Netscape.
and yeah, IE Sucks with a passion.

If I'm not mistaken, Netscape is a Firefox port.

Incorrect, FF Cannot render pages using the IE method, some pages just will not work with the gecko engine.
And Netscape was outfitted with all kinds of cooll stuff such as stock quotes, weather, news, etc.
And netscape looks awesome =P
I'll take your word for it.

so um, i guess this poll is for WinSuck users ;) (im joking guys!)
I use the OS X Firefox, but also the OS X Safari, which does have faster rendering speeds (on macs atleast, win Safari is still BETA)

Firefox annoys me. I hate tabbed browsing and the last time I used Firefox there was no way to turn that off. I also hate folk who go on about Firefox being better than Internet Explorer when they are both tosh. I thought Netscape died in the late 90's.
At the end of the day the Internet is the Internet and I really don't care enough to switch from IE, but certainly cannot vote for IE as my favourite solely on my contempt for Firefox.

Out of curiosity, why do you hate tabbed browsing?
It's one of the most usefull features to me.

I choose IE. Version 6.0 works quite good for me. I found Firefox quite annoying, but try it whenever IE fails (happens very rarely). I, too, thought Netscape died with the last millennium. Haven't tried the others.

For all of you who thought Netscape died, he's referring to a new Netscape browser that is fairly similar to Firefox.

I prefer Opera. Firefox is slower, and noticeably so if you're like me and still using dial-up. Opera is better about caching back pages, so if I hit the back button, the previous page comes up almost instantly, without having to load anything. Even I have a form filled out, such as the message I'm typing in this box, it will save that text. I also like the image button, which allows me to turn off all images, or keep only cached images -- comes in handy with the ol' 56k, when I just want to read something and a page has tons of images and crap.
I've also noticed that Opera is less of a resource hog, which is important when you have a shitty computer like I do. I have yet to notice any advantages to Firefox.

Opera is probably a better choice for you, due to your bad computer and slow internet, but one of the huge benefits to Firefox is the huge amount of add ons available.
Yeah Zebbe, you might want to upgrade to version 7 if you're going to stick with IE. It's a lot safer and has some new features too.

Yea Netscape 7.2 is my favorite although Ive been stuck with FF the past few months. Both are good I just really dig how Netscape looks and its about as reliable as FF. Didn't like Netscape 8 and just now realized there is a 9.0 of it is anyone running that version and is it any good?

But I still prefer Firefox, although Netscape is very good.

Internet Explorer sux ass.
Firefox is to complicated for my limited brain-capabilities.
Opera combines easy usage with comfortable features. Opera 4 life!

IE is by no means on the same level as Firefox, IE is worse. I would never go back to using that shit again.

I disliked using IE and I made the switch to Firefox about two years ago.
Back when I had Windows IE was used as a last resort...only when Opera and Firefox both couldn't load pages correctly.
Now I use FF and Opera and I have the option to use Konqueror. But I don't use Konq all that much.

I'm torn between Firefox and Opera. Both have fantastic CSS support, but I prefer Firefox's OSS model and quick release schedule. The plugin architecture is great for developers - you can add on so many handy utilities, such as a DOM inspector and CSS browser.

Firefox. I think the last version of Netscape I used was 6.0 and it was too damned slow.
I used IE until two weeks ago when I got fucked with spyware, and made the switch.

I don't get why Netscape doesn't get the love it deserves.
It's just a FF module with a bunch of addons.
.......
Firefox's the more laid-back style of browser. Doesn't do anything until you tell it to. Netscape is more the opposite. It takes a little bit too much liberties and that can bug some people.
That's my argument in a nutshell lol
FF all the way, couldn't use anything else.

OK, I've changed my mind. Firefox is better than IE.
I use IE, FF and Opera... IE the most (the fastest on my machine), FF for Gmail(it doesn't work on IE under Win98SE) and suspicious sites(less chance of getting $h1T into my PC), and Opera for testing my web-site.

I use Firefox, it was confusing for the first week or so, but I got used to it really quickly, and it's much better than having a bunch of windows.

I use firefox but when on macs (which I prefer but don't have the money for my own one atm) am perfectly happy with safari as it is a great browser.
I do not use netscape because it is quite buggy and the gecko engine it uses usually is an older version. It is still better than IE though but at least IE 7 is an improvement a little over IE 6.

I use a mixture of Internet Explorer and Firefox. Oddly this site will often crash Internet Explorer when I open PM's or try posting, so I have to use Firefox to visit. And then some other sites seem to crash Firefox, so i use Internet Explorer for those.

Firefox for moi. It's just a friendly, solid browser with loads of stuff to bolt onto it. It does annoy me, however, that they still haven't fixed that bug that causes windows to snap back when you try to move them. Well, it happens on a Mac at least. Can't comment on the PC version.

That "window snapping" thing has happened a couple of times to me using Firefox on the Mac. Not sure what causes it, but quitting and restarting the browser fixes it. Very odd, but fortunately quite rare.

Firefox has a bug on Windows versions (and on some mac versions), where it happens even IN a text field.

False.
Get a U3 enabled USB flash drive and you can run Firefox U3 edition.
Also, on a Mac, just drag Safari and Firefox to the USB flash drive, and run the application, works great, but stores your preferences on the host computer, not the flash drive.
On the U3 (Windows only) Firefox, EVERYTHING is stored on the flash drive.

Oops..I have Safari installed on the USB Pen Drive..
What's Firefox U3..I'm going to just copy the files from Windows to my USB Pen Drive
evildragon
11-13-2007, 06:36 PM
U3 is a technology for conforming flash drives (they MUST have U3 enabled and have the U3 logo on the stick itself), and it has it's own start menu for the USB drive. You install U3 apps in it, and no matter what computer, as long as it's Win2000, XP, or Vista, your programs are with you.

I just have a Normal 2.0 Gig Pen Drive..I guess Safari & Firefox will still work without the U3 install..I just have to click in side of the E Drive in Windows Explorer

Well whadda ya know the Linux version does pop up "quick find" when I press either / or ' outside of a text field, but it does go away if you don't type anything for a few seconds.
I never about it.
