According to the article, the script is finished and production (Probably pre-production, not filming) will begin early next year. And Chun Li will be the protagonist.

Even if it ends up being better than the Van Damme movie, it probably won't even be half as entertaining as Street Fighter: The Later Years.

There's also a live-action DBZ set to release next year.

Actually this is old news. The new Street Fighter-adaption is already half-finished. It is not a movie but a live-action series.
What I can say is that the actors are much better than in the Van Damme-movie; and so are the special-effects.
Truly a worthy adaption.

Will Dhalsim actually be Mr. Stretchy Arms this time, or just a doctor who goes suicidal again.

108 - The Later Years and this project are totally unrelated, as far as I know.

But I will second your opinion on The Later Years. It's extremely funny for those who know the games. Part 5 this October!

The best live action SF stuff was from the Jackie Chan movie "City Hunter".

BTW, "Chun Li" in "SF: The Later Years" is a total babe.

Truth. Chun Li is full of win. Even when she's "old".

"If she were a president she would be Baberaham Lincoln."

And for a double barrel blast of quotes:

"She makes me feel kinda funny, like when we used to climb the rope in gym class."

This movie will be tosh = fact.

Street Fighter is about fighting and not storylines. Street Fighter is awesome because it's a 1 Vs 1 setting in a duel to the death and even watching a close 2-player game can be great. A movie will be a group of morons running around trying to encompass as many of the Street Fighter one-liners as they can and not a single fireball will be thrown.

If they add Adon I might be tempted to take it all back.

...in Street Fighter: The Later Years there are fireballs...

Untruth. I bet there will be fireballs.

Untruth. I be there will be fireballs.

The Van Damme film had kind of a cheap Ha-do-ken, Ryu versus Vega I think. He makes the move but his hands are so close to Vegas body that it seems more like he was pushing him. The screen flashlights a bit and that is it.

Van Damme shooting fireballs? The world would have exploded from the extreme lameness.

So there will be fireballs. The movie will still be tosh.

Ohhhkay... But that was more than ten years ago; I think SFX have come a bit of a way since then.

Rusty Venture

It wasn't an issue of SFX as it was just a matter of not looking stupid(er).

Nobody in the movie has any of the games "outlandish" fighting moves, its more of a "realistic" take on the characters. It looks silly to have someone suddenly shoot fireballs from his hands without giving some type of explanation as to why.

Please just take this post and let this conversation die. I do not want to discuss, in detail and length, the mechanics of the fucking Van Damme SF movie!

Genesis Knight

Modern SFX would obviously help make those sorts of things more believable. But whatever; I'll admit that arguing about it is pretty pointless.

Does anyone else think we'll get a shitty game of the movie in the style of Final Fight: Streetwise?

Capcom has been re-releasing SF2 since 1992, what makes you think a new movie is going to make them do anything different?

Genesis Knight
09-14-2007, 05:24 PM
Capcom has been re-releasing SF2 since 1992

That's a sort of shallow analysis. Yes, Capcom sort of whores out the franchise, but the series has changed almost completely from its original format. Can you really compare the gameplay of, say SFAlpha 3 or SFIII Third Strike - super combos, counters, etc - with the original release? No.

Rusty Venture
09-14-2007, 11:52 PM
Give them combos, give someone a red fireball, have them fight X-Men/SNK/The Golden Girls

Its still SF2 under whatever fresh coat of paint this years game is sporting.

Where did the whole idea of Marvel Vs. Capcom come from anyway? :?

Were the Capcom guys just sitting around one day and one of them said "Hey, you know what would be awesome? If Ryu had to fight the X-Men." :p

Rusty Venture

I'm guessing it went something like that.

I've never seen the old SF movie, but I tend to like movies that others hate (like House of the Dead *ducks*) so I'll probably give the new one a chance. Oh, and whoever mentioned the DBZ movie, it would be cool if they could pull it off without being totally campy, but it's been in development hell for years and I'll be surprised if it ever actually gets made.

Anybody going to go see it this weekend? Unless something comes up, I'll be there. I don't have high expectations for it, but I think it will at least be entertaining.

my friend and I are going to the movie on friday. Tickets are only $4 at this theater in our town where it is scheduled to be playing, so that's not too bad. Besides, we plan on just laughing through the entire thing. This is kind of our warm-up for the upcoming dragon ball movie. Now that's gonna be a joke!:D

Call me crazy but i would rather have seen a Van Damme SF sequel,
his movies have been getting better lately, and a dark kinda sequel to the first SF movie would have certainly been entertaining.

This movie looks so awful.

At least the original had tongue-in-cheek comedy going for it. No one took it more seriously than it needed to be taken.

And Raul Julia was amazing.

I can see both movies turning out to be another Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter movie debacle.

I'll pass on the grass this time. I wish i could gain back the hours i spent watching MK, SF and super mario brothers.

Just judging from the trailers I agree: The latest VanDamme-flick (JCVD) seems way, way, WAY better than this Street Fighter sequel!

Though I guess I'll pick it up when the DVD is out around here, it seems to be quite a cheesefest (though it's probably lacking the ham of the first one... boy, I'm getting hungry!)

You say that like he hasn't made any new movies since his 90's heydays.

he made quite a lot of good movies in this decade, there's Replicant (2001),
Wake of Death (2004), Second in Command (2006), and ofcourse JCVD (2008)
The others that he made are okay but the onces i mentioned are really good.

And i mean, look at the dude.. he's still able to do an awesome fight scene,
its just that his face is ruined by all the drinking and drugs he did.

but that would have been perfect for the role of Guile out for revenge against a resurrected Bison.

Throw in some bloody fight scenes, and less cameo's of every damn game
character and you got yourself a pretty good movie.

Lets all write to Capcom when this new SF movie bombs, BRING BACK VAN DAMME! http://www.sega-16.com/forum/images/icons/talking.gif

The guy is in his late 40's so of course he's going to look like 60. I wouldn't be surprised if it was all the 'roids he's taken previously all those years in his life.

Hi.

Did you know Raul Julia got the part of M. Bison because he already had all of Bison's powers, so they needed no special effects?

I'll wait until this movie hits cable. It's probably one step above the Alone in the Dark movie.
