My favourite puzzle game was Columns. What was your favourite?

Ermm... no idea. You make quite a few topics... but none about RPGs, why is this?

If Qix counts as a puzzle game, then definitely Ultimate Qix. If not, I'd go with Klax.

Qix... I've always considered it a puzzler, but now that you've questioned it's puzzle game status it seems remarkably more classic arcade style. My mind is at war with itself..!

Columns is great, and me favourite. Lemmings is superfun from time to time, but Columns is an all-hours good time.

Tetris. The only game that's perfect to me. Every other iteration/sequel/imitation has never come close to topping the original in my eyes.

As for Genesis puzzle games it's Columns.

I'd have to say Tetris. It's remarkably simple, but so addictive. I think it's one of those games that even non-gamers could pick up and have fun with.

Well yeah, if we're choosing outside of the Genesis library, Tetris is a pretty obvious pick. I'm assuming hadjquest wanted to know our thoughts on Genesis puzzle games judging by the fact that this thread is in the Genesis Does! section. Maybe, just maybe..

But yeah, Tetris.. great game, but not my favourite. Columns is genuinely one of my top picks, but I'd say my absolute favourite puzzle games out of the entire puzzler buffet are.. Tecmo Stackers, Daedalian Opus, and Devil Dice. These games will make your brain bleed.

I remember a friend of mine had an import version of Tetris for the Genesis. I think it might've been a bootleg, but there was a version for the Genny. I've been trying to find it again, but haven't been too succussful.

There's already an RPG thread.

Can someone post a complete list of Genny Puzzler's?

I like Mean Bean Machine.

North American puzzle releases for ol' Genesis:

-Block Out
-Columns
-Columns III
-Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
-Humans
-Ishido
-Junction
-Klax
-Krusty's Super Fun House
-Lemmings
-Lemmings 2: The Tribes
-Lost Vikings
-Pac-Attack
-Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye
-Ultimate Qix
-Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego
-Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego
-Zoom!
-Zoop

A decent enough selection, really.

..oh yeah, and crazyjoedevola - there does seem to be Tetris out there somewhere as I have found a rom for it, but odds are it was an unlicensed cart or a bootleg as you said.

EDIT: ..and I forgot Ultimate Qix in that list (screw it, I consider the game a puzzler), so in it goes.

You're right. I'm positive it was a bootleg. I should give my friend a call and see if he still has it. Probably worth something.

Tetris was actually released in Japan, and a limited number slipped out before it was recalled. Kinda like the whole Tengen Tetris situtation for the NES, except the game is a lot more rarer and unknown.

Yeah but that's a different Tetris from the Hong Kong version, which is probably what Joe's friend had.

There was a Tetris for the Mega Drive released in Japan. It's just really fucking rare. It was recalled, and those copies where destroyed. Hence why I mentioned Tengen Tetris.

The game that Joe's friend had, was a bootleg of the Tetris game that was released in Japan. Anywho... There was no "Hong-Kong" Tetris for the Sega Genesis.

well I like columns because it's like jewel master. If jewel master is on the genesis then my vote is for that.

I know that Tetris was released for Japanese Mega Drive and is ridiculously rare. But that Tetris was published by Sega. There exists a different Tetris for Mega Drive, that was an unauthorized bootleg port. Just like that crappy Super Mario World bootleg.

These two are from the only Genesis version of Tetris I could find in ROM form.

That's a bootleg of the Japanese version. Now that I think about it, a dump of the legit Japanese version doesn't exist. :(

So there exist four copies of the official MD release of Tetris.. and to think I used to look at Tengen Tetris as a rarity.

It's amazing that in the thread you posted, David J., that the Japanese collector with a copy of the game sold it for Y925,000 ($8,406.06 USD). Sweet cuppin' cakes..! It's too bad that the photos of the game posted in that thread don't seem to be there anymore.

"Sweet cuppin' cakes" ROTFLMFAO! The song off the Strongbad album just played in my head!

That looks bizarre. I thought the Japanese version came out in like 1990-something? And who the hell are Dr. Pepper Software and Pageantsoft?

The Hong Kong version that I once saw was a direct port of the arcade version (the Atari one). No real backgrounds, a Russian motif, the pieces don't look like they're made of little squares, and there's a 2p thing that says "join in at any time".

Their the people who bootleged the game. Hey, once my CD's mature, I'll be able to afford that copy of Tetris MD. Oh wait, I have other plans for that money.

I also had a good time playing Krusty's Super Fun House, despite the technical crappiness of this game.

Well it is the nineties, so I have time for Klax (think theres two versions out there not sure which i have). Aren't there some bible puzzlers that are quite decent but fiendishly hard? For dreamcast Wetrix is absulutley the sheezy for breezy(also on N64). Blows my mind. Whats that one from taito, Volfied? is that it? I have that one on megadrive which is kind of an arcadey puzzlerish game. Good luck finding tetris, jeez that suckers rare. On sega cd theres that version of chuchu rocket recently released called mighty mighty missile, Both great puzzlers:) Can the pac man series really be considered puzzle games? If so then I am going to start considering Zombies ate my neighbors a puzzler for the win. JJ :)

Zoop. Zoop was like crack!

Ive always thought Zoop looked like a good game, but it gets dumped on in the reviews around the net. Graphix look nice. Anybody got any kind words about zoop? Trying to decide if I should go after it, as its usually pretty cheap.

The music on Zoop is AWESOME! It's got kind of a jazzy feel, with upright bass and vibraphone sounds. I really love it.

In a puzzle game, graphics aren't usually a huge deal for me. Zoop looks clean and colorful.

I love this game!
